Find all your old school needs here! Awesome cheeses. The man that helps behind the meat counter is so courteous and goes beyond what is expected for customer service!

Home town business at its best. Everyone is so friendly. Selection and price of the cheese is unmatched. An east rock must!

I went in for 2 sandwiches, an Italian combo and your standard mortadella sandwich, there was mold on the cold cuts in both sandwiches. Yuck.

Good pasta and traditional Italian dishes available for quick pickup. A large selection of particular foods like maraschino cherries. Also a good selection of Italian desserts. A bit pricey, but reasonable.

My favorite of the three excellent East Rock shops, Romeo has the widest variety of fresh produce. In the summer, he sells fruit and vegetables from local farmers. I also love the prepared foods, especially the fried artichoke hearts, rice balls and potato croquettes. Wonderful staff who will take good care of you. Rarely crowded(as Nica’s can be) and open even in the worst snowstorms. A neighborhood gem.

I am giving it one star not because the food or produce is bad(it is actually good), but simply because: 1. More than half the things are not marked so you don’t know how much they cost! They make up prices as they like! The things that are marked are decently priced for a store its size, but it is very frustrating when prices aren’t marked. 2. They charge you incorrectly. The woman at the register charged me $ 4 extra per pound for produce than the marked price! Then, when I got a piece of fruit, she didn’t even weight it and gave me a price. I didn’t say anything because it wasn’t much, but I wish they’d be more honest in their business!

Good little corner market. Nice people, produce selection is good but quality varies from trip to trip. They stock the essentials, plus some decent baked goods, though I am not sure if they are house made or not. I went there on a run for essentials for my cold/flu recovery after stopping at East Rock pharmacy. Paid extra for OJ, skipped the $ 7 honey, but got a lemon, tea, and a popsicle, for $ 6. I also took notice of the imported oils, vinegars, fig jam, meyer lemons and blood oranges for when I need them. I will be back for jam and to try the takeout, possibly for weird produce, because they may be the only place to have it without making the psychologically far trip to Whole Foods. Bottom line: Of the 3 Italian markets in East Rock, go here for better prices on imported groceries and to find, but pay more for, weird produce. No opinion on the takeout yet.
