Ordered a BYOB(Build Your Own Burrito) today. Tomatillo is like the SUBWAY for burritos, you get to see them making it as you tell them what you’d like. Everything looked good, but honestly I felt the burrito was a bit bland, lacking flavor. Pork was also dry. Total was $ 8.19(with tax). You can a bigger, better tasting burrito in New Haven down on Cedar Street at a couple of the food carts there. Tomatillo doesn’t have anything on those food carts. I think the public agrees, I was the only person in the place at 12 Noon. Thought that was odd(although Yale is not in session, but it was also in teens w/the wind chill today). Anyway, I don’t see a reason for a return visit. A weak 3 Star rating, IMO.

Typical delicious tex-mex. Great for late night wandering around Yale. Casual environment for hanging out. Very minimalistic interior with nice employees.

The delivery person couldn’t find me and repeatedly screamed at me on the phone when I tried to explain my location. I called the restaurant to see if one of his colleagues could help resolve the issue. The person who answered«put me on hold,» but I could hear him making disparaging comments about me. Very disappointing experience.

I am from Souther California and therefore a big Mexican food snob. I generally don’t like east coast mexican food places– they all suck. However, places like Tomatillo should actually be compared against other Mexican food places to make fair comparisons. Having said that, I would say this is a really really good Mexican fast food place I ever had– way better than Chipotle. Their nachos are very good. Their burritos and burrito bowl are both very good. Only thing I could think of to improve this place is adding a decent salsa bar. However, I have yet to see a decent salsa bar like that Baja Fresh or Rubio’s(two Mexican chains in west coast) in east coast.

Probably the worst delivery experience i’ve ever had. Three of us at work ordered here for lunch and it was a huge mistake. We were on the phone with these people NINETEEN minutes. Literally had to repeat myself a good 10 times. The person on the phone spoke good english so I don’t really know the confusion. Had I not reallyyy wanted a smoothie, I would have hung up and ordered from fresh taco. They tell us 30 mins. About 45 minutes latter the delivery guy calls us saying our address doesn’t exist. I repeat it to him and he says he can’t find the entrance. Which has literally never been a problem with any other delivery place and we order food every single day. My manager finally goes outside after about 20 minutes of this and waves the delivery guy down who is not at the right address. Now I’m hoping that this food is amazing to make up for the fact we waited over an hour for it and i spent almost 20minutes ordering it. Nope. Every single order is wrong. No sour cream, beans when we asked for none, and the wrong salsa! On top of it all the food was cold, but that was expected sense it sat in a car for so long. Maybe I would try this place and order there, but deff not delivery ever again!

I really love this place and order from it all the time! Their nachos are so good! I get the salads often but they are really on the skimpy side…

Their burrito bowl is objectively worse than the fare at Chipotle a few blocks away or Salsa Fresca which is across the street. It’s not terrible, but I wouldn’t tell anyone to go here instead of one of those other places.

This place looks pretty basic from the outside but the food is excellent! I ordered shrimp quesadillas and a piece of tres leche cake. Best meal I’ve had so far in New Haven. I can tell they use quality ingredients and their customer service is excellent. I’ll definitely be back!

Tomatillo is a great place to get Mexican food in New Haven, CT. They make your food to order, which means you can get whatever you want on your burrito, burrito bowl, tacos, or supreme nachos. I’ve noticed that the supreme nachos are exceptional, as they make sure there’s a pretty wide distribution of toppings throughout the dish(Most importantly, they don’t skimp on the meat!). Also, the toppings are fresh! I always have leftovers to save for later, and the fact that Tomatillo delivers is a HUGE plus! Try it out, you won’t be sorry!

Tomatillo is a pretty good taco joint. Are they like Chipotle, yes. Is it more expensive than Chipotle, yes. But it’s a local business and they offer more topping options than most places do(as extras). So if your in town, looking for a good fast Mexican food and willing to try something new, give Tomatillo a shot!

Love their chips and guacamole! They used to provide a very generous cup of fresh guacamole with chips and a great deal, but now their sizes are smaller :(Still a decent deal if you are craving guacamole. Tried their nachos without meat once and it was very subpar. Probably should have gotten it with meat.

OK burrito joint that is pretty much a Chipotle wannabe. But let’s be honest. It is not Chipotle. You can get all the toppings you want here for a mighty big burrito, but the taste? It’s just not the same. Or the same to any other halfway decent burrito joint either. Honestly, I was kind of disappointed and only ate like half… but it was fine! Def edible! They really need to work on the taste of their beans and rice.

Tasty, but not the most authentic Mexican food. They seem to use mostly flour tortillas for their soft tacos instead of corn, which isn’t so great. the guacamole and churros were both surprisingly good. If nothing else, this place is fast and consistent. Food is always solid and both delivery and takeout never take too long.

A little more expensive than Chipotle, with the same array of ingredients. Fewer alternatives. Not a big deal. That being said, they’re open later, making it the perfect place for drunk students to dine late at night. We managed to grab food from here not once, but twice when campus was on lock down. Apparently our safety is no match for our hunger. Besides location and operating hours, their avocado smoothie is the real reason I choose them over Chipotle. I haven’t tasted anything like it before, and I’m continually pleased.

Can’t avoid the comparison with Chipotle so here goes: similar quality food, slightly more choices(like baja fish or shrimp which are cooked on the spot), the food is a bit more citrus-y and chewy.

Was hungry between bands at Toad’s Place, and this place was open, cheap, and rated well. Not really sure why. The tacos are OK. I come from California, so maybe that’s the problem: I’m too picky. It was definitely better than Chipotle but I wasn’t blown away. The two dudes making my tacos were fine, but what I assume was the owner/manager was working the register and he had 0 customer service skills. Took my credit card payment and barely said a word as I thanked him. Weird.

Ya know what? I didn’t expect to like Tomatillo at all. It was my last minute choice and I didn’t think it would be that great. But it was! Let’s talk about how great their customer service is? Everything is quality and well portioned. If you have a chance, try the churros and the mango-lemonade as well, those are amazing!

Bland, bland, bland. I’ll give them credit for having fresh, tasty veggies, but the beef was barely seasoned and made for a very unenjoyable burrito. Skip it and walk down Park Street to La Cosinita instead.
