Every single ingredient is home-cooked, the food is full of flavor, delicious and unique in it’s own right, every bite feels like a piece of health, the falafel sandwich over a thick homebaked wholewheat pita, with crusty non-greasy chickpea patties, crunchy cabbage, pickles, and greens with tahini and amba. and the chicken shwarma are my favorites. This coupled with aggressive military precision to consistency and cleanliness, makes it a unique dining experience .even though it may be hard to solicit a smile from the desciplined proprietor.

Bad service. No one seems to know when/how to take orders. people are just cramped up waiting for 30 min wondering what’s going on. It was funny but not in a good way. The falafel were OK but nothing special

Just called and asked what the minimum was for delivery — The crass pathetic excuse for a professional barks something incoherent. He promptly hangs up. Puzzled, I call back… Line rings 15 times before he re answers, «What?» I ask for the minimum again and he proceeds to yell, «$ 20, I already told you $ 20 why you call again?» Hangs up again. Must be tough to stay in business with such a high minimum. Must be even more tough when you don’t even want to take people’s orders. I’m sorry, are you selling food for lunch or not? Me thinks not! 1 star — totally aggressive obnoxious person lacking any understanding on how to run a business.

Small spot but good for lunch. I had the Falafel sandwich. Great value, too much cabbage for me.

I was a bit confused on how to order. The Mexican, not being racist — just descriptive, who made my food, casually asked what I wanted. I was waiting for the guy that seemed like the owner/cashier to place my order — he tried to leave a good impression toward the end with a small talk. I ordered the small falafel salad plate; I loved the salad plate but not so much the falafels, which is the main reason why I came here. They were extremely deep fried — it was so crunchy that there was barely anything in the middle and to top it, it was salty. The plate comes with a warm fluffy pita! My friend wanted to split the bakalava and so we did. Ehh, I was hoping for some flaky action but it wasn’t. Besides the flaky fail, the flavor was missing. The service was not slow. There’s not much seating space. The bathroom is clean.

This place is amazing! The portions are great. My friend and I got stuffed on the small plate falafel. The owner was funny and recommended this wonderful tea that was infused with rosemary water, honey, ginger and lemon. It was delicious and rejuvenating. The place is small, only like 4 tables, but cozy and very authentic. Highly recommend it.

Best falafel in NYC! I stopped here for lunch based on a recommendation by a friend. When I walked in to see a tight space full of people, I was excited for the food. It did not disappoint! The owner waited on us and he was efficient and friendly — asking us how we heard about the restaurant and where we were from. The next time I’m back in this area of NYC I will definitely be back!

I «ve eaten there many years ago and liked it a lot but the owner had an attitude. I will be going tonight and hopefully he is better but I know that the food will be good.

This place just made my WEEK! The falafel platter is a psychedelic smörgåsbord of every Israeli side dish that we dream of. My god this dish keeps the buds unbored… what will the next bite reveal? Very difficult to eat slowly kinda food. Wonderful homemade pita. If it’s Hanukah, like this week, he makes homemade donuts. On my first visit, the owner was engaging and we reminisced about Israel and what makes the falafel so special; second visit, he barely acknowledged me. Doesn’t matter, with the quality food and fair prices, this guy can act however he pleases.

The falafel is nothing to brag about, I’ve had much better for much less, I ordered a falafel sandwich to go, after waiting a while I got cold falafel with too many other toppings, i was charged over $ 8 for a small pita full of a mix of a lot of stuff and skimpy on the falafel. I was not impressed and it’s way overpriced.

uuuum, how did i not know about this place before? Seating is very, very limited, and service is very, very slow. But the food is so worth it. The«small» falafel platter is not small at all. It has so many different sides and pastes, every bite i took was a different experience. We finished the food in like, record time. Like the other reviews mention, don’t be fooled by the gruff exterior of the owner of this place. He’s sweet once he starts talking to you.

These falafels are real and its all about business. Don’t let the lack of smiles intimidate or turn you off — the owner is actually friendly. The plates are great — healthy, flavorful, and lots of variety in one. I’ve been here at least 6 times and keep coming back for more. The bread they give is authentic and fresh. Everything I’ve had here is good, and the service is efficient. Its the best — you go in, you eat, you pay, you leave. Done and done.

Fantastic hole in the wall. Only had room to sit about 8 people, so consider taking it to a park.

This little gem is run but an older couple who are the yin and yang the logo shows. She’s sweet and effervescent and he’s cranky but makes the best damn falafel on the west side. The soup nazi description is somewhat accurate– although he’s not that bad. He’s just emotionally detached, but not from his food. If you’re a fan of falafel, go here. Te flavors will bring life to your tongue. The pita is fresh and HOMEMADE. I mean, yeah, the woman makes her own pita. If that’s not a tiny miracle I don’t know what is.

There was a mice in the restaurant running across the whole place. The owner saw it and didn’t do anything! I told him and he ignored me. All the people were lifting their feet because of the freakin mouse doing whatever he wanted. AWFULPLACE, AWFULPEOPLE, and the food of course AWFUL!

Two stars because food was good. But would not say it’s so unique compared to many other places. But I would never come back because service was poor. I didn’t feel welcome or valued as a customer. The guy didn’t seem happy and it really showed. The last thing to tip it off is he charged me $ 1 extra for using a credit card without telling me(or did I miss a policy sign somewhere?). Nonetheless, he should’ve made me aware. Honest bottom line: food does not disappoint. But the experience dictates I won’t ever be back.

UPDATE: They appear to be back open now. Had large Falafel plate, excellent flavor! Tips: — This place is closed on Jewish holidays, which there are apparently dozens of! Call before going. The hours on here, Unilocal, never reflect if they are actually closed or not. — Use cash, there is a 5% charge on debit/credit transactions. — They close ‘at sunset’ on Fridays. Which last Friday apparently meant 3pm even though the sun was still shining bright. Call before going! — CLOSED Saturdays.

Since Kashkaval closed their take out deli(boo hoo) and Taïm was a little too far, my party of three satisfied our falafel craving by going to Azuri Café. For lunch, each of us ordered the small(but very filling and gas producing) falafel plate($ 9.75) which came with lots of tasty sides: grilled peppers, tabbouleh, babaganush, fried eggplant, rice, hummus, lettuce and a nice fluffy pita. The eating area is limited and tiny, but doable. As mentioned on their brochure, the owner, Ezra Cohen, is indeed gruff(think Soup Nazi on Seinfeld), but he gives you what you order and the food is very good. Speaking of Seinfeld, there is a photo on display of Jerry Seinfeld and Ezra. Although there are only 3 falafels with the small plate, the numerous sides make for a full meal deal.

The other reviews mentioned that the guy is grumpy but that may be the case on first glance but actually he’s quite friendly when you make conversation with him. He’s busy making amazing food mostly and he’s not there to charm folks so get over him not greeting you with a warm hello and settle for a warm falafel. BESTFALAFELONTHEPLANET.

What a wonderful experience. We were Greeted by the owner who allowed us in before the restaurant opened. She makes most of the food herself. These recipes are all created by her, from scratch. The food was extremely flavorful and the prices were great. I’ve never had falafel this good! I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to have a great experience.
