I’ve been meaning to hit Double Wide for awhile. Unilocal did an event awhile back here that I missed out on, but it stuck in my head. They serve southern food here with an orientation towards Texas, which is why it caught my eye. The space is smaller than I expected and very dark, but granted I sat in the bar room so maybe the other room is better. Either way the atmosphere was oddly quiet. The tap list here was just ok, which was surprising to me; I had expected more. I got a Chelsea Pumpkin beer which was only $ 5 because of happy hour. I got the short rib frito pie, and my friend ordered the Texas queso and chips. The queso and chips was good but not amazing. The cheese did pair decently with the frito pie though. The portion was on the small side and the chili definitely could have«popped» more in terms of flavor, but the meat quality was very good. This scratched my itch for a frito pie but it wasn’t a revelation by any means. I’ll probably come back here if I want to grab another frito pie but to be honest, I’m not running back. Not bad but not great.

This place is super low key and awesome, I’m obsessed. The brunch food is delicious(sriracha ketchup be lit as hell) and the service is fantastic(thanks, Morgan!) Prices are really reasonable for the neighborhood with literally 0 wait for weekend brunch. Can’t wait to come back!

I really found this place to be a hidden gem of the East Village. It’s one of those places you just happen to find yourself at the end of a weekend night. Every time I’ve been there, It’s always been a good time. Lots of laughs. Good vibes. They have a huge bar area in the front with a ton of bar space. It’s a tight space, so when it gets busy on a Friday night, It gets a little cramped. They have a back room, which is more like a lounge area to dine and drink. The bar tenders are super friendly and are very attentive. Note– It’s always good to make friends with someone who is really close with one of the bar tenders. I didn’t try anything unique, like no Sweet Tea Bourbons, but I’m sure now excited to try them. The also look like they have great food, so just another reason to come back!

This place is the best. A banging sweet tea vodka drink, great weekly specials and delicious food. I’m not huge on chicken and waffles but their’s hit the spot! Other favorites are the corn dog bites, veggie burger, loaded tots and the grilled cheese. Staff is great too. Overall just a great place whether you’re coming in for brunch, to get drunk, or just want to chill at a bar!

Terrific bar with a friendly staff. Trivia night is a blast. Excellent host comes up with the questions every week. Highly recommended spot for comfort food, southern style drinks, cozy atmosphere, and top notch trivia. I’m a little bit biased because they’re friends, but it’s true!

#Nice chill place on a weekday night. I got the #Chicken Fried Steak dinner. It was alright. The bartender was nice.

So we just got back to our hotel from this bar… It didn’t go well. The waitress was drunk and the bartender didn’t know what he was doing. He couldn’t make one of the bars signature drinks and said they didn’t have amaretto for an amaretto sour for my wife. We were also charged multiple prices for the same drinks. We ordered food about 45 minutes before the kitchen closed, however, the drunk waitress forgot to put the order in, then when we asked about it, she said«the kitchen closed 5 minutes ago.» She didn’t apologize either. I would find a more professional bar.

A chill and spacious bar with a small backyard. A great place to meet up some friends for decently priced drinks($ 8 Jameson). And if you have a planned get-together, you can call in advance and have them reserve some space for you. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. And they have tots!

Love this bar. Great service, not pricey and the food is pretty good. Could live without having to show my ID each time I go but there are worse things.

I’ll be back to see Morgan. Loved the $ 5 frozen margaritas too. Your classic east village neighborhood bar of interesting players.

Give this more of a 3.5 than a 3 star. The place is a bit of a dive bar, not a huge fan of how the seating is done, but it is a nice casual place to hang out to grab some drinks with friends. Came here for Trivia Night on Thursday night. Beer on tap was $ 6 here that night. Nothing too crazy about this place, but the atmosphere is very casual and relatively cheap. Location is a bit out of the way, but it is close to the L train, which is good for me! Would return!

One of those places that suck you in on a random weeknight and before you know it you’re wobbling on a bar stool digging into some ungodly(but delicious) snacks to wash down the many, many cocktails you’ve consumed. So if you’re determined to be in bed early with no trace of tipsiness, you might want to avoid Double Wide with its tempting Sweet Tea Vodka Lemonade, which will lure you in no matter how good your willpower. Equally irresistible is their food menu, filled with decadent goodies like corn dog bites, queso, wings in three flavors, and frito pie. Basically, if you want a place to throw your diet and your discipline out the window on a weeknight(which I prefer because it’s less crowded and you can probably get a seat) or a weekend evening(when you’re sure to be part of a large rowdy party crowd), this is the place for you!

God bless the crawfish boil and all the little liquor drinks with it. This place is southern hospitality at it’s finest and in glad real gulf seafood wiggles it’s way«up north» every summer. Check out the happy hour, it’s pretty decent.

Looking for a nice dive with good hospitality? This is a pretty good spot. Stopped by here for a late night few drinks after grabbing dinner around the corner. You can’t beat the prices, and the bartenders were rather pleasant and attentive — even though the place was slammed. There’s plenty of seating too, we had no problem finding a few seats. The homemade cocktails are fantastic concoctions with lots of rich flavors that compliment the alcohol.

My first time here I attended a Unilocal event«cocktails for a cause». I liked the vibe and service so much that I had to come back with friends. There’s something different everyday. So you seriously gotta check them out. Happy hour is $ 4 well drinks. beer… And something else I can’t remember. Happy hour is until 8pm. Oh teachers your happy hour special is $ 3. Yes they totally understand that educators neeeeeddddddd serval drinks after working with kids. Now let’s discuss food! I can’t lie. the food is delicious! Not your standard«bar» food. The cool thing is they also have a cute brunch menu for the weekend. So if your favorite brunch spot is crowded. Stop here they will hook you up. The tater tots with cheese & bacon is a big hit amongst myself and friends. We are also huge fans of their grill cheese. Yessss grill cheese, trust me when I say you will NOT be disappointed. –my friends and I will be back!!!

Go, go, go! A few friends and I stopped in after eating around the corner this past Sunday. The bar was half empty as expected for a Sunday afternoon, but it had plenty of bar stools to go around. They had NASCAR and college basketball going on the TV’s. The moment we sat down the bar tender was attentive and welcoming. I had my heart on Shiner which he went on to suggest the pitcher because it would save us about $ 5. We only stuck around for the one pitcher but the next time I am in the neighborhood I know exactly where I am going first!

I really like Double Wide and my friends and I have booked their private room a few times now. They’re always so accommodating, and the location makes it pretty easy for everyone to get to. The private space is really large with lots of seating. I hail from the South so I appreciate the southern theme. Drinks are good. Food is OK but really great if you’re drunk! They do a crawfish boil on the weekends if that’s something you’re interested in…

You can reserve the room to the left of the main room for private events. I was here for a friend’s birthday the other night and the staff could not have been more hospitable! The sweet tea vodka lemonade is sweet enough to be DANGEROUS because you cannot taste the alcohol at all. My boyfriend’s Maple Bourbon Sidecar was also delicious and the rim was lined with syrup. The veggie burger is slider size(which along with the fries is the perfect portion size for a light meal) and came with a perfect aioli dipping sauce on the side. The Mac and cheese is not baked but creamy and gooey with cheese. It comes in a pretty decent-sized plate with a light sprinkle of crunchy breadcrumbs. Overall the great Southern food, cocktails, and attentive service makes this a top-notch bar!

A unique but in the end average Texas bar-food establishment in the East Village. Pluses are the service from the staff(friendly and attentive), Ithaca Flower power on tap(one of my fave beers), and an outside patio in the back. In the end Double Wide receives a three star rating from me because of the Texas food. I have been to Austin and had queso in all its glory. Huge plates with lots of fritos. The Double Wide version is small and I know this is NYC, we do not eat BIG like in Texas. However, the queso also lacked the rich, fatty flavor. It was kind of bland and not spicy at all. If you have never had queso before, you should try it here to just get a taste of this unique dish but it is not close to the real deal served back in the home country!

Things I Like About Double Wide. 1. Sweet Tea Bourbon Lemonade. Bourbon makes people make bad decisions. Adding sweet tea and lemonade means more people will drink bourbon(as opposed to just me). Therefore, I will not be alone in the bad decision-making(nor in the back of the police cruiser). And nobody wants to be alone. 2. The Queso. I’ll agree with Dusty Muffins that this is the best I’ve had in our fair city.* I pretend like I’m going to just have a chip or two, and suddenly I’m drinking it out of the dish. 3. The Staff. Always accommodating, always on point. 4. Shiner Bock on tap. Sometimes you just want some Texas beer. Not really that often. But sometimes. I think four things is enough. If not, you can get more unhealthy food like buffalo tenders and mac and cheese. Then you will have had enough. _____________ *Well, the best I’ve had that didn’t involve Jane K destroying my kitchen.
