Aa real true mediterranean food! I have already tried their hummus, shakshuka, cuscus and labane– everything was just great! The food is clean, the dishes are healthy and are made from high quality products. The waiters are so kind and smiley! And you have to try their deserts! The best mediterranean desert in all the city!

The Hummus Place is a guaranteed hit. The food is tasty, while also being healthy. The ingredients are fresh, and the staff is friendly, attentive and swift. Over the years, prices have been going up a little, but they’re still very affordable.

My server Chris was kind, attentive, and had thorough knowledge of how to eat gluten-free, and saved me from some hidden gluten in a special soup. The hummus was great, too.

I am so disappointed. I haven’t been here in a long time and they completely revamped the portion size of the hummus. I ordered the three sides, hummus, baba and falafel. Not so cheap at 15.50. The portion size was so small that I had to order again. They give a dab of hummus — like three bites. Crazy — it cost me over $ 35 to eat hummus, baba and falafel plus mint tea. Further, each thing like tahini was another $ 5.50. Even pickles were $ 5.50. I had to beg the waitress for one pickle not a whole side which I didn’t I am usually satisfied and have never complained of this issue at any other middle eastern place. The food quality remains the same — fabulous. Just not happy with the way they have changed.

Location: 74th and Amsterdam (Stars are out of 10) Food and Drink: 9 star The food here is very authentic. The hummus and falafel are middle-east quality. I recommend getting hummus, falafel, and tahini. Service and Wait-times: 9 star The service is very good here. The waiter I had was very kind. If it is crowded it might take 15 – 30 minutes to get a table, but otherwise the food comes out pretty quick. Atmosphere and Décor: 7 star It is a very small and quiet place. Not much décor. Price: 6 star Relatively cheap. About $ 15 per meal, but the more people you go with the cheaper it will be because you can split the appetizers.

This food is mediocre. Falafel was the best item there and I’ve still had better at halal food stands. All dios and hummjs was lacking in flavor and everythig overall was meh. Barely bring out any bread and charge for each basket which would be fine if they brought out enough bread to start with. Service was great. Will Inreturn? No. If you want the best hummus, babaghanoush, falafel and ezme, you HAVE to try out Savann in Central Harlem on west 123rd. You heard it here first

I found this place on Unilocal… we needed a place to eat dinner in-between visiting the NY Historical Society and seeing a play at Lincoln Center yesterday — and we wanted vegetarian options, reasonable prices & no cleanliness issues(this place has an «A» rating from the Health Department). It’s very crowded, small & noisy — and very popular(we arrived at 6:10 p.m. [on a Saturday] and fortunately we were able to be seated immediately, but people were waiting for tables shortly after that). I ordered the veggie couscous($ 12) and my husband ordered the 3-meze choices($ 15, which included a basket of pita bread). We were still a little hungry afterwards, so we each ordered the butternut squash soup(a good-sized bowl for $ 6). The food was *delicious* — especially the soup — and all three servers were *very* pleasant. Also, a very friendly couple sat next to us and we had a great conversation with them.

Great place! Food is fresh, staff is super friendly. Only thing is that prices went up while plate sizes went down… The food is great though!

Botton Line Up Front: Will def come back here if in the area. My sister and I were borderline hangry about to enter the jungle that is Trader Joe’s on a Saturday. My sister is vegan, so we had to make sure we could find something that would meet both our needs and appetites. We found that at the Hummus place! I ordered the Aubergine Eggs(Roasted eggplant & poached eggs on English muffin with tahini) and it was delish! My sister got the Meze with Beet Salad(Beets, red onion, cilantro & cumin(gluten-free & vegan), Rice and Lentis and the Roasted Eggplant(Pan roasted with lemon and olive oil, served with tahini) and she loved it. She still can’t stop talking about how on point the beet salad was! Overall it was an awesome experience: the food was on point, the service was up to par, etc. My only«meh» moment of the experience was that I ordered french fries with my breakfast instead of roasted potatoes and my dish came out with roasted potatoes anyways :(The server was quick in get me the fries afterwards but the fries were gross. They were drenched in what seemed like old oil.

Was in the area after the marathon and needed a place that was gluten free and vegan friendly — this place fit the bill for both. It’s a tiny little place and we got lucky and only had to wait 5 minutes for a party of 4. We got two mezes(tasting dishes/$ 15 each), each came with 3 plates so we thought we would share two orders between the four of us. I was recently in Turkey and mezes are supposed to be plates for sharing. Not at this place. They should have specified that one meze is barely enough for one person. The plates were tiny. 3 grape leaves for $ 5.50. Are you kidding me? A couple of scoops of hummus for the same price. And the meze only came with one pita, so they charged us for more. What else are you supposed to eat hummus or babaganoush with, your hands? Another extremely frustrating point was that we weren’t even finished eating when the waiter started clearing our plates. Most were finished but a couple of us weren’t. He even took away the fork of my friend when she put it down for a moment — she still had food in front of her and was still eating! She isn’t a native English speaker and was shy about speaking up, but I wasn’t, and when I told our waiter we weren’t done yet and that he had taken her fork he gave me attitude about it, and went begrudgingly to get another. I get that it’s a small place and it was probably a busy night but between the minuscule and overpriced portions and bad service, I won’t be back. All of that being said, the food was quite good. Very fresh. So if you want an expensive Mediterranean snack, this place could be a good bet. If you’re hungry and want to sit for longer than it takes to vacuum food, better head elsewhere.

This is a small restaurant that seats about 30 people in very tight quarters. I came during off hours, about 2:30PM and the place was almost totally packed, but I was lucky there was one vacant table available. It is all middle eastern vegetarian cuisine, and I ordered a falafel sandwich that came with fries. The sandwich came in pita bread and was excellent. They give you some type of spicy green sauce that you can add to the sandwich as a garnishment, and be warned this sauce is very spicy hot. The sandwich was flavorful. The serving of fries was pretty large, and they were fresh tasting but I’ve had better fries. I ordered a Turkish coffee. Is comes in a tin cup that you pour in a glass. I never had a Turkish coffee and it was outstanding. It had cardamom mixed in it, and the coffee was strong and thick. Service was friendly and efficient. My order was taken right away, and they run a pretty efficient shop, with dishes constantly being delivered to the guests. I really recommend this place for some reasonably priced ethnic food.

Mon restaurant de houmous préféré dans New York. A tester absolument. Le hummus Fava est delicieux, les falafels parfaits, le couscous végétarien parfumé. Bref, une carte courte mais tout est au top. Je recommande.

There was my life before hummus place and my life after hummus place. I walked in a boy and left a man. I used to be a hater, now I’m a lover. I’ve come to terms with my mortality. Let me explain. The hummus was literally butter. If there was a genie offering me three wishes, I’d tell him to keep two and give me a bathtub full of the luxurious legume I love. Alas, on a bed of rice and lentils my heart remains, along with the veggie patties which were pretty good, I guess.

Ok. I’m Middle Eastern. Maybe I just have high expectations? The food is good here but they miss the mark on one thing. Value for money!!! Middle eastern food is about generous portion sizes, not paying $ 5 for a scabby portion of hummus enough to feed only a small child. Maybe my apetite is a little more beastly than some but regardless I won’t be coming back here again(not if I want to leave full without a hole in my pocket).

Hummus place never disappoints. I mean, It’s hummus. How can it? I’ve been to this location a few times already and always have had a great experience. For dinner, my friend and I were able to split a hummus assortment platter. I have ordered more before, like a side of falafels and soup, but if you’re not absolutely starving, you can get away sharing a platter of hummus and pita between two people. Easily. Everything is at a reasonable price too. The assortment of hummus was about $ 15. They have a deal where you can pick three sides for $ 15 or they are each $ 5.50. The best part– the drinks were so cheap!(NYC cheap that is). They had beer specials for $ 4! I got my mojito for only $ 6! How could I pass that up? Other than the food, the staff is friendly and very chill. The vibes are great. It’s basically everything you can hope for in a small hummus place. Definitely my new go-to place for whenever I’m in the mood for hummus(which is almost always).

I’ve come here twice so far and really like the menu + ambience! It’s nice for a quick bite during lunch or for dinner. I had the shakshuka on a cold winter night and it was seriously like eating something straight out of grandma’s kitchen. It was tasty, warm and comforting :) This time I got the hummus platter which comes with four hummus options and warm pita bread. The hummus was seriously good and perfect to share between two people as a light meal My only complaint is that service seems to be spotty: they forgot my friend’s sandwich while a girl who arrived after us got hers super quickly.

It’s hard to go wrong with hummus. And then you offer me four kinds of hummus with soft, fresh, piping hot pita for only $ 15? You really can’t go wrong there. After working up an appetite wandering the many floors of the Natural History museum on a rainy Sunday, my roomie and I were in need of a late afternoon snack. And as previously mentioned, you can’t go wrong with hummus! A cozy little spot tucked away on Amsterdam Ave, the Hummus Place offers creamy hummus in addition to dozens of alluring Mediterranean delights like falafel, labne, roasted eggplant, and shakshuka. One of the workers on break was diving into a bowl of steaming shakshuka himself so you know it has to be good. We settled on the hummus platter, which comes with four kinds of hummus: classic with tahini, one topped with chickpeas, a third with fava beans, and lastly, and my favorite, mushroom. Each was drizzled with olive oil and was perfectly smooth with balanced toppings and seasoning. The mushroom variety added an ideal touch of earthiness to complement the nuttiness of the hummus. The pita bread was warm out of the oven and only $ 0.75 for an extra two if you are like me and consume pita bread like a fiend. We washed it down with a carafe of red wine Sangria, which wasn’t too sweet and had freshly diced apple and oranges. All in all, it was a satisfying and delicious meal and the relaxed environment contributed to the positive experience. I’ll definitely be back to try the shakshuka and indulge in more hummus.

Let me start with the fact that I LOOOOOVE Humus and think of myself as a hummus geek. Now the experience at The hummus place was really nice and pleasant, while it’s a small and a bit cramped place below street level the ambiance is still nice and warm, especially with the great waiters and their great customer service. As for the food I was a bit surprised by the portion sizes. While certain dishes are a bit oversized or big enough for a couple to share, some dishes where quit small, for example the Stuffed grape leaves(which is Btw absolutely different and delicious!) appears on some photo’s from other Unilocal reviewers a bit bigger and where small and tiny when I got em VS the hummus platter comes with 2 Pita’s and 4 huge servings of Hummus which is more then enough for 2 people. So when you order make sure to ask the waiter what the sizes of the dishes are and order accordingly. As for my meal: Appetizer: we had the stuffed grape leaves which is basically grape leaves stuffed with a rice and is served on the side with a mint yogurt sauce and is absolutely delicious and beets salad which was pretty simple and nothing special about it and then we had the Falafel appetizer which comes with 5 pieces of the best falafel that you could find in NYC on a plate with tahini. Main course: We had the Hummus platter which comes in 4 flavors: Mushrooms, Tahini, Fava, and Masabacha. we aslo took some extra corn tortilla’s and a Tabouli Salad, As for the hummus it was the star of the night, and we couldn’t get enough of this warm and fresh heavenly substance and the same goes for the pita which was fresh out the oven and is so soft that it almost melts in your mouth, however the corn tortilla’s where a bit of a disappointment because they where quite bland with no flavor what so ever. Dessert: We took the Kadif which has Dry Kadaif topped with vanilla infused ricotta cheese, Halva shreds and Honey Date and has a very interesting Israeli halva style taste and was a great dessert to top off our delicious meal. Drinks: We had a cup of red wine and a cup of the fresh mint tea which was not sweet but very tasty. In overall I will definitely be back at the hummus place and would recommend for anyone who likes Real Good Hummus.

The food is amazingly fresh & tasty. I had the $ 10 falafel sandwich with fries for lunch. It came with a free side, I chose the grape leaves. The falafel were a nice size, crispy, with smooth nice amount of tahini(not drowning in it), and topped with a tomato & cucumber dressing. The fluffy pita(choice between white or wheat) was amazing as well. Grape leaves were yummy, with a hit of lemon, resting on some sort of green sauce(mint?). The jalepino Harissa sauce that came with my meal was yum. However, the 2 stars is for the horrible & rude service! Blonde thin man with an attitude. Maybe he resents that he has to stop everyone at the door while waiting tables, since the to-go counter is at the back. I had a half hour for lunch & went in, realizing it was a sit-down type of place, I asked about take-out & said that I only had a half hour. He said ok, said they were fast. I decided to stay & eat, he seemed already annoyed.(Wouldn’t someone try & be accommodating to try to keep a customer?) He gave me the menu without letting me know about the free side, rattled off the soups & veg of the day, then tells me I have a choice of a side. I ask him the soups again & he rolls his eyes & sighs! I get my sandwich with 10minutes to spare, it’s yummy. I ask the waiter to wrap it up & give my payment at the same time. I’m watching the kitchen staff watching my waiter & chuckling(hopefully it was about something else), as he was packing up my food behind the left wall. When I get back to work, I wonder if he spit in my food. There’s a crumpled used tissue sitting at the bottom of my bag with my food.

Great restaurant. My friend and I had dinner on a Monday and it was packed. The service is very slow but the food is great. The Roasted Eggplant appetizer was very tasty and served at a good temperature. The Labane Cheese was different and tasted good. Shakshuka was my favorite dish because the presentation was intriguing, it tasted great, and it smelled great too. We also had the Hummus Platter and every single hummus was amazing. As for service, we had to ask several times to get drinks. Asked several times for silverware and waited quite a while to catch our server to get the check(one of the guys in the kitchen eventually came over to grab our plates). I recommend this restaurant.
