One of my FAVORITE spots for weekend lunch — cheap, fresh, healthy, and with decent beer to boot. Give me the corner table by the window, a bowl of Tahini Hummus, and a good book — I’m chill for at least an hour.

This is quite the quaint restaurant in Greenwich Village. Located right in the smack dab of it all! This teeny tiny place has a couple of tables that make for an intimate setting. Sitting by the 2 tables in the front window makes for excellent people watching. Good(probably ipod) music too. Our beautiful waitress(who just so happened to look like a Middle Eastern Lady GaGa) helped us with our selections, as this was our first time eating hummus with additions. My fiancé’s mushroom hummus was EXCELLENT. I was so jealous that I didn’t order it. My tahini was«eh» at the most; I suppose it’s an acquired taste, although it tasted pretty bland to me. The side of hot sauce needs to be mixed with hummus otherwise your mouth will be on fire. The whole wheat pitas are a healthy option. We’ll be back for more and next time we’ll try the $ 9.953 appetizer sampler.

You know that feeling when, socially, you want to go out for a meal, but stomachly, you want to go out for a snack? Or that feeling when dinner time approaches and you theoretically want a meal, but you’re still a little full from lunch? When you’re caught between a meal and a snack then what you need is a SMEAL… a snack/meal! And for that, you need(drum roll, please)… Hummus Place! A gigantic bowl of hummus and a plate of fresh pita(plain or whole wheat, you choose) is exactly the kind of thing that is more filling than a snack and less filling than your traditional restaurant meal. Bam! Hummus Place! If you don’t like hummus or Israeli food, this place might not be for you, as that is pretty much the whole(teeny) menu. Luckily, my friends are I are huge fans so we were pretty psyched to have stumbled across this place. It’s itty bitty inside, and I was honestly surprised they had room for our party of four, but we we crammed in there are it wasn’t so bad. I had the hummus fava which was pretty much insane. So so so delicious. I tasted some other things on the table too and everything was equally yummy, the kind of yummy where you talk about it all night. The service was good, the prices were great, and overall, I’d have to say that I would come back here any chance I could get! BTW, it’s cash only, so be prepared.

Must love hummus. It makes up the vast majority of the menu. If you do, then it doesn’t get much better then Hummus Place. There are a variety of hummus dishes that are creative and delicious. Not the most extensive wine selection(3) but it’s a good pour so not a deterrent. Added bonus: good soundtracks playing. Once when I was in there, it was all Smith’s music! Oh the joy.

Someone recently reminded me that a good restaurant(despite its price, décor, or celebrity chefdom), should be marked by consistency… Hummus Place is definitely one of those places that I know I can always have a satisfying meal at, anytime of the day. I have been to different Hummus Place locations throughout the city, particularly this one, the one in EV, and the one in WV. While this location is the smallest of the three, I visit often because it is in close proximity to NYU Stern. I haven’t had a thing on their small but well-curated menu that I didn’t like. My usual go-to’s are the hummus fava, hummus tahini, hummus mushroom, shakshuka, and greek salad. Their lunch specials are especially great, $ 7.95 for any hummus dish(mushroom extra $) plus any appetizer. I also love that their pitas are always fresh and warm, and the whole wheat option is always hearty yet fluffy and soft. Their homemade green hot sauce is particularly amazing, I swear you can slather that stuff on an old shoe and it’ll taste good. It’s definitely laced with crack. Because this place is so tiny, it often gets packed at lunch time. I’m just glad I tend to get out of class pretty early during lunch so that my companions and I can dash over to Macdougal before the masses show up.

Hummus made enjoyable! As a child I never cared much for hummus, however as an adult I appreciate more of life’s offerings. I came here to re-charge and detox after enduring a forsaken«kill me now» work week with my closest circle of friends. Ayia, seriously KILL me now! The pita bread is made fresh and served hot directly from the oven as my fingers were burning. The hummus is presented in a circle form where pine nuts are the center’s filling. I find the pine nuts okay though I’m not overly excited for them. The Mediterranean Mojito cocktail’s main ingredient of rum was replaced with a weird licorice liquor, which a good friend and fellow Unilocaler(Kiddeft K.) notes«tastes like NyQuil.» The mojito was too licorice ish of Elphaba Thropp’s elixir from the classic fiction of «Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West» by Gregory Maguire. Hummus Place is a quaint Mediterranean restaurant residing in the Village for an exotic experience out of the ordinary. The bill for our party of four certainly did not break the bank either at approx. $ 40.00. The facilities are located through the kitchen.

Warning #1: It might sound obvious, but please make sure you like hummus before you enter the Hummus Place. I was thinking that at HP, hummus might be an appetizer, or one meze among many, but hummus really is at the heart of just about everything on the very limited menu(except for the couscous, which I had). Warning #2: Beware that the waitstaff is a little bit strange. We walked in last night at around 10, and though the website says they are open until midnight, the first words out of the server’s mouth(well, maybe second, I think first she told us that the veggie couscous was all out of veggies so it would just come with potatoes) were«we’re closing soon.» She then made every effort humanly possible to rush us. Warnings 1 and 2 notwithstanding, the hummus is absolutely delicious(though I was completely hummus-ed out by the end of the big bowl of it that I ordered) and the prices can’t be beat(three of us ate for $ 26 total). Just remember, if you want chicken kebabs with your hummus, this probably isn’t your place.

SO good and SO cheap. The cheaper dishes are under $ 6 and they serve you a LOT of hummus and pita for that price. The staff is always happy to give me some regular pita and some whole wheat pita and to refill our pita supply whenever it runs low. I like to go with a friend and order one hummus and one shakshuka to share. For the uninitiated, shakshuka is a tomato based stew served hot. Your dinner will feel a little more like a «meal» if you can have some cold refreshing hummus on your pita and also some tasty hot and slightly spicy shaksuka. If you are lucky enough to be on Macdougal Street for lunch, you can order one hummus dish and one appetizer for $ 7.50. Warning: In January 2010 this place changed to CASHONLY.

If you love endless amounts of fresh hummus and warm pita, this is the place for you. I love hummus, but not enough to eat it as dinner so I got sick of it after eating about ½ of my plate. I’ve tried the Fava, Shakshuka, and Masabacha and each one was packed with flavor and accompanied by the warmest softest pita ever. Their presentation is really superb. I wasn’t expecting my hummus to come out on a ceramic dish looking all smooth and slick with garnish and spices. I expected a glump of mashed chickpeas in a plastic bowl. There’s not much one can do with hummus, but Hummus Place has mastered the art of hummus-presentation. This teeny tiny joint is definitely worth checking out, but the name isn’t kidding; it really is just a place of Hummus. Oh, and the employees here are really chill. Either that or high. Hahahaha…

Frankly, I wanted to eat more at Hummus Place, but I really only stopped by with my sister so we could use a restroom… Still, I was glad to stop in at Hummus Place because the name itself intrigued me. A decent selection of foods, from appetizers(mezes) to some delicious-sounding desserts. The house salad was simple, light, and fresh; loved the beets in the salad. The grape leaves were great, even though my initial reaction to the dish was«why do they have so much sauce all over the grape leaves?». Despite the reaction, I liked them; the sauce was a good complement to the grape leaves. I was also happy to see they had Turkish coffee on the menu. The ambiance is simple, with the front view looking out towards MacDougal. They seem to have good Happy Hour specials here; would love to come back another time to sample more food.

Hummus place, you’ve got a new fan. I was so excited to try this place out due to my love for hummus. I even took pictures out in front, inside holding the menu, eating… You did not disappoint me Hummus Place!!! I went for the traditional hummus with whole chick peas on top and it was so sooo yummy in my tummy!!! It was warm, bursting with flavor and the perfect texture. I can go for some right now. I only wish Hummus Place was a teeny bit bigger and had a little bit more of a variety of hummus flavors so that I can go everyday and order a different type of hummus each one of those days. Besides that, I loved it!

Hummus is not a meal! I suppose I’ve always thought of it more as a condiment, or a side dish at best. But, I’m open minded so we decided to stop in for lunch. It’s a tiny space with only one waitress. And she’s kind of unfriendly and clueless. But, I digress … My Mom and I ordered the same thing, the Shakshuka, 2 eggs over easy in a tomato stew with peppers and onions. She ordered hers with halumi cheese in it, and I went without. It came served in an actual skillet. For something so simple, it was very hearty and flavorful. I don’t see myself craving it anytime soon, but when eaten with their light and fluffy pita, it was a tasty and very healthy lunch. I particularly enjoyed the mint iced tea that I’d ordered to wash it all down. I don’t even like hummus that much, but we had to order the restaurant’s namesake and got the Hummus Masabacha. It was a lot better than I expected, and far superior to any pre-packaged versions that I’ve picked up in markets or specialty stores. However, it wasn’t really mind blowing and it didn’t convert me into a hummus fanatic. But, after eating here, I dislike it slightly less. This place is absolutely, totally 100% vegetarian.

I’m a big fan of hummus and pita and Hummus Place will definitely be my go-to the next time I’m having a craving. The pita bread was definitely not what I expected. It was fluffy, thick, soft and not burnt at all! I’m used to the thin, flat pita you can find at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. The hummus masabacha was delicious. I couldn’t get enough of it! I really liked the green hot sauce and thought it was spicy, but it depends on what you’re used to. I don’t have a high tolerance for spices since I’m Asian but my Indian friend thought the hot sauce wasn’t spicy at all. One downside though: the prices! I got the lunch special that includes one type of hummus w/pita and one appetizer. It totaled to $ 8.17 with tax. But then I’m a frugal spender. Overall, I definitely recommend this place! I’ll be trying the hummus fava next time. See you there!

Outstanding Mideastern food, fresh and delicious and the prices are great to boot. We got hummus & tehina, wheat pita and quinoa tabouli. For dessert we had kataif. In general all were extremely good and the quality was tip top. The hummus was one of the best I’ve tasted in NY since I returned from living in the Mideast. Very flavorful and well seasoned. The pita was served hot and fresh. What more can you ask for at a hummus joint? The dessert was out of this world and I’m not really a dessert guy. I would highly recommend it, and I would definitely recommend the place for a quick fix of Mideastern eats.

Shaksuka, I love tomatoes! Rating solely based on the food. My first time here… was an alright experience. Maybe we came on an off night… waitress, hello? Are you done chatting it up yet? The whole time we were there and needed some service, we felt like we were interrupting them. Sorry to interrupt dude! I love tomatoes. I really, really love tomatoes. But the bottom of my dish was burnt. Which meant some of my tomato was burnt. And I don’t mean terrible burnt, but I don’t mean mmm delicious bbq burnt either. I’m talking about the oh-no I’m going to get cancer and this is totally not worth it burnt. blah. Other than that, if it wasn’t for the burnt taste every now and then, I’m sure it would have been quite a fabulous meal. The bread was FANTASTIC though. The hummus was also good. The stuff hiding in the middle of the hummus mmm. I like eggs. =p The pickles good, olives dry.

I love hummus, and … wow. This is close to hummus perfection. Yum. My boyfriend and I came here after I finished a looooong, frustrating day at work. Instead of mopping up my beat-up emotions and listening to my endless string of complaints… we went for Israeli comfort food: warm, thick, silky hummus with wheat pita bread. Now, I have a soft spot for Mediterranean food… but even my boyfriend, who thinks hummus is «OK» really liked the hummus here. We shared a 3-hummus appetizer sampler($ 8) with the hummus fava(fava beans, tahini, olive oil, spices), hummus masabacha(chickpeas, olive oil, spices), and mushroom hummus. The base hummus was the same for all three, but what differed was the center filling. So good! Apparently my boyfriend fell in love with while watching me eat! This might work for you, too! Even though the plates seemed small, the hummus was deceptively filling. Perhaps it was all the olive oil(and there’s a lot) over each hummus plate. I know it wasn’t the complimentary pickled olives, or the cilantro-based hot sauce(which is Perfect) that filled me up. Wow. Even writing this review is making me happy thinking about the food. If you like hummus– you gotta try this! A few things to note: Pita bread costs extra(I think it’s 75 cents a piece) The house red wine is Israeli and the taste isn’t for everyone The service was pretty good, but this location is quite small. It’s probably not great for large parties.

I randomly drop by after class for some take out. I saw the place on Unilocal, but was skeptical about really how amazing the place could be. I really like meat and it’s hard to me to really enjoy vegetarian food. I ordered the Hummus Fava. It comes with a large portion of hummus(with fava beans and sliced hard boiled egg), two large pieces of whole wheat pita, a few olives, a banana pepper, pickle, and a tasty hot sauce. Make sure to ask for the hot sauce because they will not give it to you otherwise. The portion is really good for $ 6.50(with tax). I liked having the hard boiled egg in there. I’m also one of those people that’s really testy about proportions of what you dip into and what you dip with. I obviously prefer having more of what you dip into, just in case and Hummus Place doesn’t disappoint. I would suggest not getting the«lunch special» where you get an extra appetizer with your hummus. All I got extra was a sliver of eggplant for a few dollars more. They have changed it so they now have a $ 10 minimum so watch out. The best hummus I’ve had. The pita and little additions are icing on top. Even meat lovers will love this.

The place lives up to its reputation. I met some people over at Counter(see review) and was picking up some food to cure the hunger. I ordered the hummus with mushrooms-very delicious with a kind of bitterness at the end, the eggplant-awesome, falafel-decent, white and wheat pita. While waiting, I talked to a fellow customer about her decisions between physical therapy and nutrition, then the host got involved and we talked about his upcoming project possibly being a romance film. Overall, a great visit. This ‘place’ is endorsed by Willis.

«Love this place!» was my original reviews but… There was a complain from Just Jax W. about short reviews - I guess, I should write more about this restaurant. This place used to have a great lunch specials. It comes with a choice from main(I usually get Shashuka), half size of Health Salad form regular menu and Homemade Lemonade with a lot of mint leaves. When I went last time(it was about a week ago for lunch), I took my friend. He loved the food. He had Shashuka and I had Hummus Tahini. We ordered Falafel. I never had Falafel here. They were scrumptious. There was a new waitress. She had a little edge when she says things. There used to have two really super mellow guy and girl worked there. They were super nice. New girl has a temper. I guess they opened new place on UWS, those good ones went there instead(?).
