This place is one of the BEST halal food trucks ive ever been to! It has its unique taste that none of the other trucks in nyc have. Amazing and great price too.

My dangerous love of halal food began when I first tried Sammy’s ~6 years ago. I used to get combo(chicken and lamb) over rice with white sauce(liquid mayo) and hot sauce(something red and spicy?) after a night of drinking. I would then proceed to stuff my face with this greasy goodness. This is one of the best carts in the city(yes, just as good as Halal guys). They sometimes season the meats and rice a bit differently(throw a few more spices in there to mix it up) and it’s always excellent.

Delicious mixed combo. Channa chick peas hit the spot on a cold day. Chicken is tender and juicy. Lamb is in nice cubes. Green sauce is mint chutney and is a nice twist for cart food. Very nice man running the cart as well. He gave us some free chick peas. This place definitely lives up to its name and is better than halal g*ys lately. Cumin rice, green sauce, it’s the little touches.

I AMSORRY! BABYTAKEMEBACK!!! On the real doe. I was mistaken. The price rise still aint feeling it cuz I’m out here tryna eat. However I admit after frequenting this cart over the last 3 years I have to say there is no equal to Sammy’s. I might even go as far as to say this is my personal favorite cart. Trust me Halal Guys is deng good and unique too, but the taste got a little old on me. I don’t know if they put some addictive sauce up in this or not, but after having tried at least 6 – 7 halal carts I keep coming back to Sammy’s. The reason Sammy’s kills ‘em is cuz they marinate their chicken and keep it relatively juicy. The chicken don’t go dry at this joint. Moreover the spicy sauce is more liquidy and it don’t dry up on you food like at the majority of other halal carts, and its not as spicy as halal guys. They give you good portions(average) so no more complaint. The taste is a slight spicy with a slight sweet.

Flavorful chicken, but way too many onion. As someone hates onion, Wish I haven known, so that I can ask for no onion rather than spending forever to pick them out…

The falafels here are fresher and tastier than the ones at Mamoun’s, and the platter is more flavorful and warmer than the Halal Guys platter. Definitely ask for the green sauce; it tastes even better than the white sauce! However, it left me feeling parched and craving something sweet to balance out the saltiness. Also, it’d be really nice if it came with some pita on the side. All in all, though, it was exceptionally filling and tasty.

Your food is one of my favs in the city but your greens(lettuce) is always a bit dark if you guys can get greener and fresher lettuce that would be great

Got the chicken sandwich and fell in love. Flavorful, fresh, and juicy! Perfect amount of hot sauce and white sauce. Haven’t had a gyro this good in a while.

There is no lack of halal food trucks in NYC but this one by far, is the very best. Their white sauce is so flavorful and they have a special green one that adds that extra flavor to every plate. I have no idea why people like the bland food at halal guys. This place is soo much better. And Agha is an amazing cook, while being a super fun guy to talk to. I come here every weekend.

As a connoisseur of NYC halal food, I can say with no hesitation that this is one of the very best. Their lamb over rice is FANTASTIC. Highly recommend.

This is the same Sammy’s Halal as the one in Queens. Vendy awards rarely lie and they certainly do not lie on Sammy’s. I’m known by certain circles as a Halal fiend maybe even more so than a bagel and apple pie fanatic. Sike. Bagels first Maaaaaaaan. The service has always been friend. The price is good. You can refer to my photo for complete listing. The quality is AMAZING. Normally, I just order the chicken over rice. Okay, I order 2 orders of chicken over rice. I can eat OKAY? Sometimes I order the lamb over rice. My stomach is pretty happy after that. People want to be a fan of the Halal Guys all they want. I’ve stopped eating Halal Guys as I use to rave about them. I still do if I’m desperate for that late night Halal but definitely NOT in the day time. Sammy’s is where it’s at y’all. SUPER Fan.

Its the best halal cart for fidi. There is barely anything good in Fidi area so taking train up here to this one is good. Alot of food and I made two meals of it. I tried chicken and lamb combo it was very well flavored(lemon based marinate for chkn). I would definitely return here.

Dude… bro…dude… My first and only cart food crush. I recommend the combo platter, with white and hot sauce. It’s everything cart food is supposed to be, but with a ton more flavor. Is the lamb/gyro greasy? YES. Is it delicious? Definitely. The rice is actually seasoned and has great flavor. The chicken is marinated and delicious. DONOT make the mistake of skipping the random veggies /salad they put in the corner of your platter, it looks pointless, but it’s not. The crispness of the veggies cuts through the richness of the creamy white sauce and savory chicken/lamb. Vendy award well deserved sir, very well deserved.

I came here Sunday after a little imbibing. I was headed someplace else but I thought why not give this place a try since I see them all the time. I looked at my options and ordered the cheese steak. I thought it was a little weird to be ordered a cheese steak from a Halal food truck but it seemed the most portable option. It didn’t take long to get my sandwich. I must admit, the sandwich was pretty tasty with good cheese sauce and onions.

Relatively healthier(compared to other halal carts), mouth-watering cart food! The rice is more flavored, long-grained and less oily than most other popular chicken/lamb-over-rice places. Add the sauces — white, red and green and it’s even better! Chicken and lamb over rice is the absolute favorite. It’s in a prime location in west village and while NYU students probably flock this place during the day, it’s not so crowded in the evenings when I frequent the place. Do not be mislead by the missing crowd. The food here is just amazing and not many know it! Portion size is lesser than that at 53rd and 6th which makes it perfect for 1. Definitely healthier. It’s unfair to compare the taste though as they both have unique flavors and both amazing in their own ways. Less crowd here at night, so no annoying wait. We ordered fish platter once and he generously added some chicken to it(after checking with us of course). I’d still vote for chicken/lamb over fish though

In my search for the best halal street meat in manhattan, me and the lady stopped by this Vendy award winner. In comparison to the famous Halal Guys(of «we are different» fame) the lamb chunks are larger but less tasty. The rice is biryani-like, which is good, but the halal guys saffron rice is better. N’ the chicken is curry flavored. Great if that’s what you’re looking for, but I prefer the halal chicken for food truck authentic styles. Sammy’s also had a green chutney sauce that was minty/spicy and I thought added nice complexity. But! The white sauce is much weaker in flavor than the halal guys and the white sauce seemed dairy based instead of oil based, like them halal guys. All in all, an excellent Indian/Pakistani-style food truck, probably the best curry street meat in Manhattan, but my bias is for the carts near 53rd n’ 6th.

I dont usually do this. I try to stay healthy but for four dollars this place blew my mind. There really is no reason to think this kind of thing through in such a way. This is the best darn falafel I have ever had. Ive been to Israel and Turkey. Only in new york can the greatness of all the falafels come together in such savoring system.

After an aborted attempt to eat a falafel at Taim[1], I found myself walking along 6th Avenue towards the W 4th subway stop, on a muggy summer evening, hungry. VERY hungry. As I get close to my destination, I am attracted by the wonderful smells coming out of this food cart. Yes: wonderful smells! This cart, whose full name should be Sammay’s Halal Food, apparently has won several street food awards(or at least this is what the articles glued on the side of the truck claim). Being a Sammay’s virgin, I decided to play safe and ordered a gyro platter. It was nothing short of excellent: the meat(quite a lot of it) was super-tender, juicy, and full of flavor; served over a bed of rice that was nicely cooked, with the grains still separate and of the right consistency. The white sauce was creamy and tasty, and the hot sauce was HOT, not some watered down bidet water for pussies. Overall the serving($ 5) was very generous. One thing I would have liked is more greens, but I guess that if you want a salad perhaps a gyro platter from a street cart shouldn’t be your first choice[2]. Also, a couple of pieces of pita would have been nice. A winner. Now I want to try their lamb. And their chapli kebab. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – [1] At 8 pm on a Wednesday there was a line of about 30 people… [2] Although they do serve a veggie platter.
