No brainer. Food is top notch. Vibe is right on. Classical movies always up on the screen. Cool people, and by the way, dip down to their karaōke bar after. Perfect first date place!

Placed an order with the(awful) MunchAdo for their really excellent grilled octopus for $ 15+tax. Friendly staffer upon arrival and a larger weekday lunch crowd than expected, partially due to the swung-open windows on a beautiful day. Their menu is confusing, with the prix fixe either an absurdly good deal or pieced together wrong, with items liek Coq Au Vin available within it yet not on lunch menu at all, and far more for dinner sans soup/salad. PS Union Square is listed as their neighborhood on the listing yet still not screened out of most-mentioned reviews.

Service was slow, but what was truly disappointing was the Le Midi salad at $ 16 came with no avocado and the pear taste stale and tasteless. After voicing my dissatisfaction was only offered $ 3 discount. Would not returning anytime soon. In addition, the drinks were also disappointing. Can’t see why people are giving this place good reviews? I don’t know how it has 4 stars when this place is mediocre at best.

I have mentioned in past reviews that one of the measures I have for a solid spot is if I have or would go back. Le Midi definitely meets that criteria. The food is simple but well done. It is a good go-to spot to keep on the list for if you are looking for somewhere to grab a meal close to union square.

Keywords: terrible service, dirty, food poisoning. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night and there’s a reason. Just like another review says, the staff seem very confused and disoriented at all times. I ordered the steak frites and asked for it to be done medium-rare. What I got was a very overcooked, dry, well done steak. Super tough too. Fries were average, nothing special. Somehow there were like 10 people working here but most of them were just hanging out at the bar the whole time. I returned my steak and asked for a medium rare one, and what I got was a completely rare, grey steak. It literally took them 45 seconds to redo my order so it all made sense. Definitely won’t be back and for the first time ever, our party of 6 decided to tip 10%. If I were more ruthless I would have tipped less. Never in my life have I been so disappointed at a restaurant in new York. UPDATE05/22/2015: Was very sick the next day from the RAW steak they served me. I probably should have complained to the waiter about it a second time.

A little split minded on this one The Good Great location, HUUUUUUGE space, which means you usually don’t have to wait for a table, attentive services The Bad Kinda touristy vibe… I don’t know… it’s a pretty lofty space but the restaurant is aiming for a French bistro/vintage kind of feel… yeah go figure! The ugly I had a super tasty nicoise salad for brunch, BUT. … … Uhm, ok at the risk of publicacly embarassing myself in the Unilocal-sphere, I had to admit I had a really really bad food poisoning later that day… Go figure…

I was searching for a brunch place close by and am so glad I came here. This has definitely turned into a favorite. Food and drink are great and I love the décor and service too! I had the omelet twice now and both times have been excellent. The omelette comes with salad and potatoes. I believe my friend had the Croque Madame and loved his too. You can’t beat $ 5 mimosas, bloody Mary’s, and bellinis too. They have happy hour 7 days a week as well with drink specials and $ 1 oysters. This place is the whole package. I can’t stress the service enough and will be there frequently I’m sure. Bön appetit

I’ve got to say I was a little disappointed. I went here for lunch bc it was a cold day and I was DYING for a good cup of french onion soup. After seeing other reviewers speak so highly of it, I thought i MUST go here! It was definitely a let down for me, the onions were not caramelized and the broth was well.. . bland. Sorry :(I also got the chicken club which was okay but nothing to rave about. Someone else in my group got the Coq au vin and said it was delicious so maybe that’s the better way to go. With so many other restaurants in the area I just couldn’t justify going back. $ 29 for just a so-so chicken sandwich and a not so good crock of french onion left me feeling a bit sad.

Excellent French restaurant off of Union Square. Ordered the steak frites and it did not disappoint. The steak was incredibly tasty(it had some amazing seasoning, heaven) and came with half fries and a salad with a lovely Dijon dressing. Paired with a glass of their Cote du Rhone. Perfect.

They have happy hour on the weekend! Came here around 5:30 for an early dinner and they had a prix fixe menu and happy hour going on. I was starving and of course ordered with my eyes(guilty!) For a start we had a dozen oysters(only $ 1 each) and a bottle of red(only $ 24!). I will say that the oysters were not the best — as most were pretty small. As prix fixe, I had the French onion soup, coq au vin and crème caramel. My friend has ordered the lobster bisque and risotto. When the bisque came, it was more so fish broth than a lobster bisque. It tasted so fishy. Luckily we told the waiter and they gladly offered to switch it out with the French onion soup. My soup was the best I’ve had in Manhattan. I’m a cheese fan and there was so much cheese and so crispy on the top. The coq au vin was good as well. Chicken was very tender and potatoes were buttery :) Crème caramel is more like a flan and wasn’t too too sweet. I was in a total food coma after this huge meal. Service was very accommodating

The food was okay. The service was excellent. 1st meal the Lardon Frisee salad. The lardon was hard, portion sizes are small so I ordered something else. 2nd meal — Steak Frites — Steak was excellent, did not eat the fries. Drinks were not well made. Negroni — There was too much of something, possibly the vermouth. Cosmo — a lot better but nothing to write home about. Again our waitress was amazing. :)

There were a handful of people here on a Saturday. We sat at the bar. Our bartender was helpful and the Paris Manhattan went down very smoothly. I was surprised this place wasn’t packed. This place was near a flim screening we were attending around the corner. The cheese plate was a good starter, nothing spectacular, but the Roquefort was on point. I will definitely be back for the steak frites. The fries did not need ketchup and the the steak was seared to perfection. I liked that they let me cut it myself… mmmm, the sauce. $ 30 per entrée and cocktails are in the $ 12-$ 14 range, wines by the glass $ 9-$ 11. This place was in the diner’s deck so I saved $ 10 bucks. Looks like they have great happy hour specials and pre fixe menu if you are able to get here for early dinner. I sampled my friend’s scallops with cauliflower. That was tasty as well. Definitely worth a try.

It was pouring and did want to get a sandwich at Le croquet M but saw this place and went in and sat at the bar and are we glad we did. The service was excellent with good wine list and the food was excellent. I don’t know why the review oval all is not good but it’s a great place.

This was a cute little spot that I came across while walking around the city… I walked in and saw that they had a Crab Cake benedict and I was sold… the hollandaise sauce was excellent, crab cake was perfectly made and seasoned and the portion size was just right! I tried my friends salmon benedict and I found the salmon to be very salty… not a fan of that, but I’d highly suggest the crab cake benedict!

3 course pre fix meal– $ 25.95. Happy Hour– wine $ 6 per glass or $ 24 for the bottle. The times that I been here, they always had the 3 course pre fix meal option. I am not sure whether it is part of their standard menu or promo. The 3 course pre fix meal is from 5 – 6:30 and it’s Monday-Saturday. Pretty good deal when dinning early. Nevertheless, 3 course me up! Once you go 3 courses, it’s a hard habit to stop. I am starting to develop expensive taste. My bank account and credit score are not happy with me. bye bye 800+ club. This place is generally not crowded. Ideal place for a date night or dinner with friends. The staff does a great job of spacing people out so nobody is overhearing your conversation. I am not sure whether everybody spoke french, but I wasn’t totally sold on their french accent. Since I speak 0 french, you have to hear for yourself. The décor is minimal– nothing stood out to me. In terms of restroom– the big one is way better than the small one. Okay– back to the food. I had the soup of the day– it was like a curry soup. It was tasty but it was lacking salt. Then I ordered the roasted salmon w/potato purée with ratatouille. The salmon was delicious and it had a good crust. Salmon was cooked perfectly medium. The potato purée needed salt. The ratatouille didn’t stand out– it went okay with the meal. Then I had a chocolate for dessert. The pros– portions are pretty big. Some of the food items were cooked very well and tasty. The cons– some items were underseasoned/un salted. There was potential for a speculator meal, but it felt short. I would consider Le Midi a valued 3 course meal. It’s good to the point that everybody will enjoy it, but it wouldn’t make a lasting memory.

Pretty good brunch, though our dishes came REALLY slowly. I had the Eggs Benedict with sausage, which came with a side of greens and hash browns. The amazing Hollandaise sauce and perfectly poached eggs made up for the too-salty hash brown. My friend got the Full French, which was a lot of meat. Also good. Nice ambiance for a date, with candles and black and white film playing on a wall. Overall a good experience for a casual, light brunch.

So since I never really hang around the Union Square area — I went to the best place possible for recommendations prior to a show nearby. Le Midi came up and doing some further research, found that they had a $ 25 prixe fixe meal(as an early bird 5 – 6:30pm special!). Being that I usually eat dinner at 6pm, this was perfect. The food was great. This is probably the best prixe fixe you can get outside of Restaurant Week(hey– this could possibly be better since it is much cheaper at $ 25/dinner!). The appetizers include soup, the main’s are salmon, pasta, or steak, and dessert’s icecream/sorbet, crème caramel, or their special of the day. For soup, I had their gazpacho with avocado. And let me tell you– when it’s good, it’s so good. There were chunks of watermelon, aside from all the other things in a gazpacho, which really made it so refreshing. This was definitely a star soup! I also had the steak with the pommes frites — and it’s a large plate. It doesn’t look like a full steak, but it certainly will feel like it in your tummy! As for dessert, couldn’t really complain about the crème caramel — it was a flan and I love eggy desserts, so this was great. It’s definitely a sit-down place where people may dine for an hour or two, but I enjoy my company a lot, so this was a great place for me. Plus, the atmosphere is great. Our waiter was super nice and always checked in to make sure we were okay. The lights are a bit dim, but the bright candles light up every table. Good for a single diner to groups of at least 8, I would say. I would definitely come back for their prixe fixe and recommend everyone else to as well! The only reason why I took off one star was because the hostess was pretty rude. No greeting or anything, not even acknowledgement of my telling her that we had a reservation, but it’s okay — the food and our waiter made up for it.

Three friends and I came in with a reservation for 12 pm. There were only a few other tables there but it was still pretty early for brunch on a Saturday. The place is pretty big, so it was nice to not have to sit elbow to elbow like at smaller places in the LES or East Village. Le Midi definitely has a classier feel to it. To start, I went with a bloody Mary. I’ve never tried one before because the thought of tomato juice and vodka doesn’t sound like it should go together. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of tomato juice. I’ll drink it but it’s not like I’ll ever say, «Hey, you know what? I have a craving for a nice, tall glass of liquid tomato!» Nope! But curiosity got the best of me and I ordered one. Let’s just say, I should have went with my initial instinct. It tasted kind of watery and I didn’t like the spicyness. Instead of using Tabasco(which I’ve heard of people using), they used peppercorn. So with every sip, I kept getting bits of peppercorn too. At least they didn’t garnish it with a stalk celery(I hate celery). I should have just stuck to the mimosa(all brunch drinks are $ 5). For my entrée, I went with the croque-madame, which I’ve also never had before. A croque-madame is basically just a fancy word for ham and cheese sandwich topped with an egg. And that’s exactly what it was — basic. It was good but it wasn’t great. It also comes with a side of fries and salad, so at least you’ll leave feeling full.

The food, ambiance, and wine were spectacular, but I have to say the service here is some of the BEST I’ve experienced! Our waiter was one of the best waiters I’ve encountered; polite, extremely attentive, constantly on standby, and fast with dealing with our table of 6 chatty ladies catching up over dinner. Romantic ambiance with just the right amount of noise, perfect for catching up with a group or going on a date. I highly recommend the pre-fixe menu(appetizer, entrée, and dessert) that lasts until 6:30pm for $ 24.95 since one entrée dish off the regular menu ranges from $ 20-$ 25. The pre-fixe menu had a variety of options for each course and everything was delicious! My dinner consisted of: — Appetizer: mixed green salad: pleasantly large portion salad with the perfect amount of well-made mustard vinaigrette — Entrée: 8oz hanger steak: perfectly grilled to medium rare with a very light and sweet shallot sauce, a handful of thin pomme frites, and a nice little tangy salad. — Dessert: Crème Caramel: pretty much caramel pudding texture, fabulously creamy and with the right amount of sweetness, loved it They have an excellent wine list to pair with the well rounded and delicious full course dinner. I had the Rose to start and a bottle of riesling during the meal, which ended after 3 hours. Throughout the dinner, the waiter was always immediately available, making sure to listen when we had to change orders, split bills, get water, or order more wine. I haven’t been this impressed with quality of food and service in a restaurant for quite some time.
