Great place! Came with a friend and had the best falafel in NY, tasted just like in Israel. Extremely recommend to come try.

Horrible customer service. You have to tell them that you are standing in front of two customer service lady while they are chatting and beg them to take your order. Food is good but the service is horrible. This is how you earn cheap food!

I’ve been wanting to try Maoz for a while but this tiny spot is always packed for lunch. I stopped by for dinner recently and was pretty impressed. I ordered the falafel salad, which came with a choice or either mixed greens or kale. For $ 9, you get a relatively small salad but have the option to add as much as you’d like from a selection of toppings that include roasted broccoli, marinated carrots, beets, tomatoes, salsas, tabbouleh, and more. The falafel on my salad was still warm, which I loved. The meal was pretty greasy so it’s not as healthy as it might seem, but it’s a good amount of food for the price and the women working there were very patient with me as I asked questions about the menu.

Go now. I’m not kidding! This place was recommended to me by co-workers, and I’m so glad I went. Middle eastern food kind of scares me, so I was hesitant. I ordered a falafel with hummus and feta(both premium toppings) and a water. Less than $ 10!!! After you get your food, they have a full topping bar. I added pickles and broccoli, with the garlic sauce. This sauce is SSSOOOOOGOOD!!! The broccoli was cooked to a crispy perfection, and I ended up just eating the pickles by themselves. The cheese was fresh, as was the super creamy hummus. Definitely a stop next time I’m in the area.

Barely one-third the size of a Subway sandwich shop, the food is very good. It looks like some mom-and-pop shop that was thrown together. Apparently however, they are a chain. I’m not a vegetarian, but I like many vegetarian dishes, and I enjoyed eating here.

What an outstanding little spot! I ordered the vegan shawarma and falafel over lettuce as a salad. I added babagnoush and hummus, and was glad I did! My favorite salad bar addition was the broccoli. Really great Mediterranean food. Highly recommended!

My favorite falafel place in the area. And there are a lot in union square. Not sure what it is but I think they get it just right. Also love the salad bar options the roasted broccoli is great. Juices are decent. Great healthy option.

I’ve walked by Maoz a million and one times and never thought to go in and try their food due to the fact that I shy away from vegetarian restaurants worried the food may be bland and not appetizing to the palate. On the contrary, Maoz is extremely good and very tasteful. I enjoyed the falafel mixed green salad with hummus. They also have this mini buffet where you may enjoy unlimited toppings which include Israeli salad, beets, pickles, broccoli, carrots, cole slaw, red cabbage, etc. Also, the prices are not bad at all. I will definitely come back to Maoz!

Overwhelmed by the Greenmarket and Whole Foods and a recent trip to a busy Petco I wanted healthy good food nearby that wouldn’t run my pockets, and found this place in my Unilocal app. I had had Maoz before and was thrilled this would be my go-to. Very small location, but most everyone inside was ordering to go, so I snagged a seat and got in line. The toppings bar took up most of the space, and the 2 ladies who worked there were nice, efficient, and quick, and in-between orders wiped the toppings bar clean, and swept the floor. They were also heavy-handed with the falafel sandwich I ordered, which made my hungry belly happy. Everything tasted fresh and wonderful. The lemonade I ordered had large leaves of mint in it, and was heavenly. Now that I know where this location is, I’m heading there more often.

This is McDonald’s of Middle Eastern food, nothing taste as it should. If you ever had a good falafel or good salads you will know what I’m talking about.

It’s amazing. I’m a vegetarian and I couldn’t ask for anything more. But maybe I’m biased because I’m used to Amsterdam Falafel in Boston where you have to pay by the WEIGHT. Here you can just pile on as much stuff as you want(and it’s all so good). Plus the falafels were really good like crunchy on the outside but not dry. And they were open at 11:30PM!

Maoz Vegetarian is a good option if you are hungry for something both light and healthy, like before a concert. Their houmous is to die for! Perfect to eat right outside, under the trees of Union square, on a sunny day. Quite cheap, but if you want to eat inside, it’s not always clean. You may have to wait in line at peak hour. Fresh food, salads, houmous, sandwiches, bread and drinks… really a great choice to make in the neighborhood!

I’ve always seen this place while walking around Union Sq., never thought to walk in and try it out. A friend recommended it to me, and I did finally try it, and now it’s pretty much my veggie stop whenever I’m in the square(which is allot). I’ve tried several falafel places in NYC, missing the flavor I had back home, and this place delivered. You can either go full sandwich, or ½, and go nuts with extra hummus and the salad toppings. The toppings aren’t radical, and they do accent the falafel flavor. So, don’t be afraid to experiment. You can go really crazy, like I did the first time, but the sandwich became too big and messy, which made me wish they had bigger bread options. The place itself is pretty easy to find, and the layout is nice and optimal for a quick grab&go. The stools aren’t for sitting too long, so make sure you enjoy your sandwich in the square. Honestly, the flavor they offer is authentic, and for the price you’re paying, its too good to be true at times.

My go-to lunch spot for takeaway – it’s clean and easy. Toppings for sandwiches and salads are only limited by your own appetite and how much you can stuff in your salad bowl or pita pocket. I’ve never had broccoli flash fried like they do at Maoz but man is it good! You get a lot for your money by adding a side of soup(portions are big!) or fries.

It’s one of the few heathy spots for a reasonable price in NYC, so I eat there. But the seating is slim and – at least this evening – the crowd was ultra ghetto. There was a high-looking girl with a exposed gut; also a very large man proceeded to take half of the entire contents of the grilled broccoli tray, even though it had just been replenished. And after I commented how much he’d taken, he said«you know that how fights are started» and threatened me further until his friend coaxed him out the door. Nice place – interesting at least.

Middle Eastern food plus add your own toppings– what a deal. This place is pretty great if you’re craving a falafel or pita on-the-go. It’s also surprisingly pretty healthy too. I like getting the salad(which comes to about $ 12). You get to choose your type of lettuce, side(hummus, falafel, etc), and then pile on the toppings. My favorite topping is the garlic broccoli. So good.

When this place first opened I thought the world was a better place! Falafels here are so delicious and when you get to pick your own toppings and sauces it makes it a million times better. They are always so hot and fresh and they never disappoint me.

The«salad» fixins(mmmmm fresh beets) were good, I began with a «jalepeño» falafel sandwich. I ate all of one falafel ball and couldn’t eat any more(too spicy). I settled on a plain sandwich. I, especially my tastebuds, are grateful, and the manager, with her pleasant demeanor, was very accommodating with the second order. In one fell swoop, based on this experience, I am a loyal customer. I washed it down with a bottle of Cane Cola. Delish!

This is absolutely my lunch of choice under 10 dollars. You get a big salad, stuff as many things as can do in a box, 5(or 6 ?) falafels, and pita bread for $ 9.85. The food is really really really good. The roasted cauliflower and broccoli is my favorite. I literally tried to replicate that at home but failed. Falafels have real flavors like garlic, parsley, cumin etc etc. Everything is fresh. I don’t know how authentic it is but I don’t really care. It’s better than all the other similar food I tried. The staff here are always nice(I’ve been to 3 locations), although there are always grumpy customers that don’t say thank you and things when the staff are really helpful. This place is truly a five star worthy place.

If you’re looking for a cheap lunch, get the 5 falafel ball side… very fresh… and tasty sauces! Nowhere really to sit and eat in there during lunch, it’s best back in the office or in the park…

Yes please! Came to this place on a whim, because I was bored with the surrounding options. I’m not a vegetarian but this place is good. I have ordered the fafel con whole wheat pita and the fafel salad. Both are amazing. The best part of this experience is the unlimited salad bar. They so my toppings to pick from. My favorite so far are the beets and i believe like a cole slaw. Service was always friendly when I visited. I will definitely be back.

All the positive reviews have said exactly what crossed my mind when I think of Maoz. Fresh, filling and delicious. My mouth is watering as I type this review. Too bad I am currently 3,000 miles away and cannot jump on a plane to order the entire menu! My husband and I planned a romantic dinner for our first anniversary. At the last minute, we said«screw it» and headed to Maoz. We sat next to an overflowing dumpster and ordered fifty things off the menu. I don’t regret our decision. Mmm.

Very nice workers, clean small place. The toppings are awesome with so many choices. Delicious and well worth it. Recommendation: get the falafel salad instead of the pita, trust me! because then you can fit so many more toppings and variety. My pita sandwich didn’t allow for all the toppings and sauces that I desired. Next time :)

5 Stars for tasty, fresh, fast, affordable food! Friendly staff and clean place. I’ve always passed by Maoz, but never made it inside their tiny storefront, mainly because there always seemed to be a line. Now I know why! Searching for a quick bite(perferrably light, veggie, and cheap) after the Strand closed around 10pm, Unilocal let me to Maoz. Poor girl, waiting to close at 11pm, but happy customer that the food was still fresh, made to order(not end-of-day dried out falafel), and the toppings bar was Fairly fresh looking(maybe stir that chickpea and tabouli a lil bit please?) I paid around $ 5.00 for a half falafel sandwich(3 crispy plum falafels with shredded romaine). I’m SO surprised about this«free topping bar» and that NYC has not gone there and sneaked some bites from it(or maybe it has during other times of the day). They had different salsas/chutneys(including cilantro), a tabouli with a green pesto on it, diced beets, coleslaw, red cabbage cole slaw, purple olives, pickles, chickpea salad, cucumber and tomato salad, and Oh. The. Broccoli! I was a bit hesistant at first, it looked a little limp and there were brown florets. Little Did I Know. that these medium to small pieces of broccoli had been flash fried and was, as the boy puts it, AMAZEBALLS. The cashier didn’t seem to mind that I went back for a few extra pieces after I had gotten down halfway my sandwich. There were free dressings as well: yogurt, tahini, hot sauce. And small samples of their green and apple/pear smoothies. I got their wheat pita– excellent as well: fluffy, with lots of little holes from the air pockets from the yeast. Thank you Maoz, I’ll be back for more! (although wish it was larger to sit and relax there– but i’m sure they don’t want people taking TOO much advantage of their free toppings bar. Nice lil green space ship vibe.)

Service is decent. I like to eat in so i can pile all those different Israeli salads mile high! I usually just get the salad with hummus and then load on the extras. For $ 8 it is a lot of food and fresh/healthy also.

Roasted broccoli and cauliflower. I’ve loved this place for years. It’s clean, they’re consistent, and the staff moves the line quickly. Perfect for a healthy lunch on the go(minus some of the fried things… but who’s really checkin’ for that). The salad bar is still unlimited which is nice(the location in the 40s on 8th ave does NOT play those games). I mentioned the roasted broccoli and cauliflower, right? The vegan shawarma is decent, but not mind blowing. Falafal is a-ok, but not the best. The hummus, egg, and eggplant combo sounds weird but it’s fantastic. Do yourself a favor and load up on the roasted broccoli and cauliflower. Also, their fresh juice selection(the apple cider in particular) is pretty durn good if you’re looking to supplement your meal.

I’m a softie for Maoz. I like that it’s a great place to stop in for a quick eat; it’s fresh, and you’ll never feel guilty afterwards. In terms of ‘fast food’ it is unquestionably the best bet if you’re looking for a healthy option. I’m not a vegetarian(utmost respect, however), keep in mind, so I don’t have that particular bias working for my rating of this place. They’re all the same, the reason I decided to review this location is because this is the location I frequent the most. Grab a falafel bowl, go crazy on the salad bar toppings, and make your way to the grass across the street in Union Square. This is one of my most favorite activities in this great city, despite it’s simplicity. You can get creative with what you order, but the combo bowl seems to be the favorite. I’ve had the wraps numerous times too; it just depends what you’re in the mood for that day.
