I have ordered breakfast and lunch delivery from Neil’s to my Madison Avenue boutique 4 – 5 times per week for over one year. The delivery man is fantastic, and the food is pretty consistent. The pricing, however, is not. Today I ordered 2 hard boiled eggs with 3 slices of bacon(strange, yes… but don’t judge) with no homefries and no toast. Just eggs and bacon. Last Thursday, this cost $ 5.65, today the cost was $ 7.85. When I called to inquire the girl simply stated«sorry, he should have told you we charge for the homefries whether you get them or not». Really not the point — the pricing inconsistency is. This isn’t the first time this has happened, but it is the first time I don’t turn a blind eye. So disappointing. This will be my last order from Neil’s Coffee Shop. The $ 2,496 I spent on food delivery last year may — or may not — make a difference to their business.

Love, love, love Neil’s. Been a Sunday regular for over 11 years, and though the service took a bit to get used to at first, the staff is on par and the food never disappoints. I take all my friends and guests there when I can. Burgers are perfect, and the coffee is just right.

A «diner» on the upper east side!!! They do it well, including the home fries with the Sunnyside up eggs but… The BLT sandwiches tend to have dry day old bacon. They are not greasy enough for true native New Yorkers. The booths are tight, waiters are no nonsense, and you can nurse a cup of coffee at the counter on your way toGarnet liquor store.

Being a student at Hunter College, Neil’s Coffee Shop serves as a go to have some lunch in between classes. Breakfasts are my favorite to have at any diners of the day and it doesn’t disappoint. Friendly, fast, and efficient service. Definitely a kind of diner for locals.

This is a classic American diner(run by older, Spanish speaking men). They have great service and the food was good quality for a diner. I wouldn’t go out of my way for a diner but definitely a good place to spend an hour before leaving the city when raining out. A bit more expensive than what I’d like for this type of food but hey, it’s NY. huge menu full of American faves.

Sent to Neil’s by our doorman after arriving in NYC, we wandered in for a late lunch and it was a perfect unassuming coffee shop of days gone by. We ordered the standard fare: Burgers, Salads, and Milk shakes. It was fast, friendly, and tasty. A place for locals, it is just as easy a destination if you are visiting and want an authentic old school coffee house experience.

Typical NYC diner on the UES. A bit pricy but the food is ok. Had pastrami on a roll which was hot and fresh.

This place is perfect. Food is always spot on. I don’t know why people complain about the crowd. If the place is good of course there will be crowd. Be patient. Customer service and atmosphere is amazing and that’s what matters to me. The atmosphere. I leave a big tip, but only in Neils. Amazing place — anytime, any day.

To me this place seems more like a diner than a coffee shop, but I like it no matter what they call it. It’s right next to my school and I end up here for lunch often. You can get eggs anytime and that’s great. Sometimes they run out of potatoes that come with the eggs, and they offer you fries or mashed potatoes instead, which I don’t care for. That’s the only issue I have with Neil’s. Other than this, service is super friendly and fast. My soup came hot, just like I like it. Salads are good, decent size. Big menu with many choices, diner style. Someone who was not my server came and ask me how did I like my food, surprising. But it shows they care.

A reliable spot for breakfast or for lunch. The service is attentive, the wait time is minimal and the food is exactly what you’d expect at a cozy city diner. Not overly expensive, and the portions are filling. Love the coffee.

Iconic NYC diner with the neon sign outside to match. They served me up a really good French toast plate with coffee that tasted ok. One star off for the priciness. You can get a cheaper breakfast at other delis nearby but this gives you a nice booth to relax and read the paper.

This is a diner, not a coffee shop. Stopped here for breakfast between classes. The service is spot on. The food is pretty typical for a diner, but I look forward to coming back for the friendly faces. It’s definitely worth it.

Unless your Twiggy or Kate Moss the booths and tables here are not for adults. A customer was sitting at table, his chair back so far only a starving African kid could fit in it and the staff tried to seat me there and said nothing to this to blow hard !! Really…this is why you don’t live in Manhattan Too many places with too little room and too much overhead

Great place! Has a diner-like feel. I’ve gotten a grilled cheese and a burger — both of which were fantastic. Can get crowded at times but overall nice place to go any meal.

Decided to try for the first time today… it will be the last time I eat here. Upon arriving there was a fresh pile of vomit outside the entrance… Not a good sign but I kept going. Got seated promptly and ordered the Mexican omelette that was supposed to come with fried potatoes. I received my omelette with a side of french fries. I ask about this because I’m sure I’m not the only who doesn’t partake in french fries for breakfast and I was told«we don’t have potatoes right now». I said that’s fine can I have something else instead… The waiter offers me «mashed potatoes» I politely decline and suggested fruit or oatmeal, something«breakfasty». «That will be extra» I said never mind, ate my breakfast and left. The food was nothing to talk about, in fact it’s probably one of the worst food experiences I’ve had since moving to nyc three years ago.

Not a bad little place to pop in and get an egg sammy. Coffee is what you would expect, the best part of this place is all the famous head shots on the wall.

Simple eggs and bacons with NY drip coffee. They make a good donut but they don’t have anything that blows your mind. What they do have going for themselves is the look and feel of a genuine diner. If you’re not down for the bells, whistles, and prices of an annoying ny breakfast spot. Grab a seat at the bar here, have some coffee and eggs, and read the paper. You’ll enjoy the simplicity.

It’s a cramped greasy spoon, but I love it. Very New York. Had breakfast here one morning. Completely overpriced — but welcome to NYC. I sat at the counter and had a very greasy egg and cheese and bacon sandwich. It really hit the spot. But this is one of those typical small diner-type places that just litter NYC. It’s why I love it here — two steps any direction you’ll find food. Back in Texas, I have to drive 20 minutes just to get anywhere!!!

Neil’s Coffee Shop NY: Manhattan: UES 10am Sunday 3rd October 2014 3.2 Stars After a sleepover with an ex girlfriend who I hadn’t seen in 15 years, she didn’t even make me breakfast so I opted for Neil’s Coffee shop. The window specials which attracted me didn’t apply since it was Sunday. I ordered corned beef and hash, eggs over medium, wheat toast, and black coffee. The eggs were overeasy and the plate came with more potatoes. The hash was from a can meaning plenty of salt. The two pieces of bread were crispy with just the center buttered. The coffee was strong. Overall a quick bite of diner food. Pay at the counter. $ 12.

Solid diner, but note it closes early: Monday evening, they were shuffling us out at 8:30pm. That said, the service was very friendly, and my turkey club came on exceptionally well-toasted whole wheat – which seems, and is, a ridiculous thing to commend a place on but I really did bite into it and think, «dang, that is well-toasted bread!».(This speaks either to the bread and its toasting, or to the paucity of interesting commentary threading my internal monologue. No comment.) The diner fries were perfection. I ate here with a 9-year-old from southern California(where apparently they have no diner fries? Savages.) and he treated them with an awe he might otherwise reserve only for aliens, or snow. The fries were golden and not too greasy and firm and light, and a few of them were the length of a hand or even a pint glass. The décor will appear to you to be one of two things: quaintly dated, in a «aww, they haven’t changed this place since the old days», or thoroughly in need of renovation. Minus point for messing up my sandwich order a bit(they left out the cheese). Plus point for being a diner.
