New York Artistic started out as a great company to work with but by the end of the project I was beyond disappointed with my experience. Communication at this company is particularly poor — the two principals were rarely on the same page with what they were communicating about our project and our site manager often gave information contradicting the principals. It was a massive headache to sort through all the conflicting information we received on a weekly basis. This conflicting information included everything from payment schedules, how much money was owed, when work would be completed, whether there were construction issues, etc. The prinicipals were defensive and unhelpful when we tried to work out issues. Ultimately, we did think the man doing most of the actual labor was very thorough and good — I wish we could have dealt solely with him. If you use this company, make sure to get every single detail — even things that seem completely common sense — in writing. Also be prepared to micromanage every single aspect of the project, down to contacting the company on a daily basis to see if someone is going to show up to do work. While I am mostly happy with our ultimate result, the fighting, headaches and overall stress of dealing with the people who work at this company were not worth it in the end. I have to believe there are better firms out there to renovate your space.
