I’ve been to probably dozens of ramen establishments in NYC, and frequent to only about a handful of them. Ramen Misoya is one of them. This place is for people who like their ramen hardy a la meat lovers. Their chachu pork is thicker than most other ramen joints. And if you check-in on Unilocal, you can get a free piece! Although not as silky in texture compared to the like of Ippudo, Misoya holds its own when it comes to flavor.

— considering there’s a ramen shop every other block these days I found this place to be below par, especially for the area — well proportioned with thick cut char siu(though of a lower quality than I’m used to) — I ordered neither, but was shocked by the sticker price for extra egg $ 2 and side of hot sauce $ 1.50 — noodles didn’t have that nice chew/bounce, reminded me of instant — broth was decent but nothing memorable(a friend got the special, her broth was almost inedibly salty) — random note: did the minced pork remind anyone else of sloppy joe? it didn’t taste bad.. just seemed out of place

Pretty decent ramen place in NYC with flavorful miso broths. What does bring my friends from coming back is the large slices of cha-su. It is a small space and you are kind of rushed to leave if there’s a lot of ppl waiting, which is reasonable. Service is pretty attentive.

Came here for dinner with a friend on a Friday night. Pros: — Cute tight space — despite this we didn’t wait long for a table and wasn’t rushed out — Good prices for the portion size — The kome and mame broths were both hearty — There is a bathroom — Good service Cons: — Not a good place for a large party(5 and up)

My favorite ramen spot in the east village. Granted this is certainly a heartier ramen, in my opinion it’s the best around. The broth is incredibly flavorful and thick and the noodles are always cooked to perfection. If you’re looking for a great bowl of miso ramen this is your spot without a doubt

Flavorful broth, arguably one of the best ramen houses in East Village along 2nd Ave. They’re reliable, affordable, and relatively easier than the others to snag a table during peak hours. This is why they have my 4.7÷5.0 Misoya is one of the fortunate restaurants to survive the 2nd Ave gas explosion but suffered mightily in the resulting aftermath of street closures and cleanup. They are, by and large, a great alternative to the other popular ramen haunts in East Village. While not especially large, in terms of seating, they are typical of ramen houses in the city. With a good assortment of ramen to choose from, your only choice can be narrowed down to three types of miso: Kome, mame, and shiro. While I’ve been here several times already, I may have had all three at one time or another. This latest one I’ve had was Mame Miso Kara Age Ramen. Filled to the brim with meat, there’s nothing I love more than being overwhelmed by meat. Meatitarians are sure to love this one. Egg, scallions, and corn adorn the wonderful bowl of ramen. The noodles, as expected, are from Sun Noodles and fare well retaining it’s chew against the hot soup. Service can be brusk, but can be expected of this packed house, night in and night out. They’re my go-to for ramen in this neighborhood. 4.7÷5.0

Misoya itself is a small and cozy, there is no wait during a weekday for dinner around 5:30. There are only 2 servers who were prompt with service and patient. Excellent for dates and small friend groups. Moving on to the ramen itself, I ordered a Standard Kome Miso Ramen with Chashu. The noodles itself were alright, they were very soft, I just preferred my noodles to have more texture. The portions were generous and there was lots, of things going on in bowl from corn, potatoes, seaweed, and the pork. However, my main issue is with the broth. It was extremely salty, to the point that I couldn’t finish my portion. The broth itself lacked a strong flavor and was not very good. Definitely could be improved.

I can’t believe it took me so long to review this place. I used to come here with my friends every one to two weeks because we were all obsessed with this place. If you want some hearty authentic broth, look no further and head to misoya. The place is pretty small and get a bit uncomfortable if your party is bigger than 5 people. They’re famous for the different types of miso that they used; each originating from different regions of Japan. The wait for the weekend can be long. If you don’t see a hostess, don’t fret because there’s generally a piece of paper and pen where you can put your name down and queue in line. Due to the small space, expect to wait outside til your name is called. Once you sit down, you’ll be given the menu where they describe each province’s miso with the corresponding taste. I’ve tried all of the different miso flavors and I prefer the shiro miso(kyoto-style). The broth may be a bit heavier but I prefer the«deeper» miso flavor that it exhibits. The cha-siu at misoya is INSANELY good. Moist, fatty, and charred with the right amount of crispness outside. I’ve seen that some of the bad reviews come from the fact that their broth can be a bit salty. While I agree that their broth is definitely much more heavily seasoned compared to other ramen places, that is what they are known for; the prominent miso taste. I also wished that they were able to tone down the salt levels somehow but it is always still one of my favorite ramen joints in the city.

A friend and I took a chance here because I couldn’t remember how to get to a different ramen spot. Basically we had a similar experience as one of the commenters below. The waitress who wasn’t attentive or friendly approached us at the end(very loudly) saying our tip was too small. We adjusted it and it was more than generous but it was an embarrassing experience and she went on to the next table bragging about their generous tip. I mean. Woah… I get it but rude, rude, rude and for the service we got I’m upset. Although I don’t regret adjusting the tip(because I get it) I wont be back and I don’t recommend this place either. We left this place with a bad taste in our mouths. –Overpriced for ramen. –Also, the menu doesn’t include much variety. I think there was one item with chicken. Everything else was pork. Their food health rating is also a B. On a positive note I will say that I did enjoy my soup. My friend wasn’t crazy about his.

I felt sick shortly(probably food poisoning) after eating their tonkotsu ramen here so I probably will not be coming back. The first time I came here it was not bad, but there are many more better options

I ordered the basic shiro miso ramen and was unimpressed. My major complaints are there was too much going on in 1 bowl and it was extremely salty. In addition to your basic ramen components, my ramen included corn, large potato wedges, bamboo shoots, minced meat and probably a couple other things. If anything, these toppings just detract from the flavor of the broth and noodles. Speaking of the broth, the sodium content alone makes it impossible to finish their huge portion sizes. The broth was also somewhat oily and grainy. The rest of the experience was meh as well. The waiting system is outdated: You put your name on a clipboard dangling outside their door and you wait for the waiter to come out and read the next name. It’s awkward because you have a crowd of people outside staring at all the people eating inside and there is no one present to give you a rough estimate of exactly how long the wait may be. The interior is tiny, dimly lit, and plain. Service is okay. In summary, I don’t recommend Misoya as there is much better ramen to be had in NYC.

Arrived and wrote our name down on the list on the door. It took us around 30 minutes for us to get a table. The restaurant itself was underwhelming. The space was small and had very few tables. That’s probably why there’s always a wait, not necessarily because the food is good lol. We got seated right by the window and the door, so the entire time we had people peep into the window and look at our food while we eat. It was very uncomfortable lol. Also the waiter kept coming in and out so the door was opened quite a lot. I eventually put my jacket back on while eating because it was that bad lol. Now down to the real thang, the food! I got the mame ramen, mainly cause I wanted that fried shrimp. But boy was that a bad decision. The broth was described as having a bitter after taste, and that really hindered me from finishing my bowl. Also the noodles were more on the soggy side when it came to the table. Overall I wasn’t digging my mame ramen. I expected the fried shrimp to be like shrimp tempura but it was meh. My friend ordered the kome miso and it had a better broth. Not the best tasting one, but maybe that’s why health nuts love this«healthier» ramen joint. Also props to them for serving thick slices of chashu pork. Service was lacking a bit, but I understand it’s hard to hire more employees when the restaurant itself is so tiny. Btw, your one free chashu pork offer when you check-in is only valid for the following visit. Hmmm, that’s not enough of an incentive for me to be returning. Off to explore other ramen joints!

Ramen Misoya markets itself on being a health-business. It trumpets the health benefits of miso, and boldly offers different soup bases for its ramen. I was impressed by the different types of miso soup offered. There were definitely some variants that I’ve never had before(in particular, the Mame was very unique, not your average miso). Be warned: for me, the mame became hard to eat at the very end simply because of the strong bitter flavor. The kome is excellent, but essentially your standard miso-based ramen broth. Overall, the restaurant wasn’t worth the 40 minute wait, nor its price tag. It was a delicious dinner, however.

To the point: –overpriced 2 ramen with 2 orders of goyza cane out to $ 52 –had better –service is mediocre. Horrible in fact. I got there to get a seat for my friend that was running 10 minutes behind. She insisted that she couldn’t serve me. I mentioned that if he doesn’t come could I still order. She says no. I said fuck that, there was plenty of seats and insisted. –looks better in pictures –soup is too oily –pork had so Much fat on it and stringy — noodles were too soft. Save your money, there are other places with better faster service, better food, more variety, and quality. My rectum is bleeding for the food.

Loved the soup base. A bit on the oily side but the Tokyo special had clams in it which made the soup much more flavorful. The noodles itself didn’t have the chew I normally prefer. Other than that, it’s a solid ramen spot is recommend. Go!

I came to Ramen Misoya at around 2:00PM. I was looking around for something to eat, and since it’s thanksgiving today, naturally almost everything was closed. I passed by Misoya and I thought that it was closed because I passed by and it looked really dark inside. However, I actually found out that it was a cloth that they used to block the doorway(cover) so that cold air doesn’t get in. So the hours seem decent here! These guy’s specialty is miso, so no matter what kind of ramen you get, they’ll all kind of have they hearty flavor. Other than something called kome(a soup base of theirs), everything that’s on the menu is fairly straightforward for the average ramen eater. They have a great lunch special from 12:00 to 3:30PM where you can get a ramen and a rice plus a side of some sort for $ 11. The ramen, tofu, everything here is great. I thought I’d also make special mention of their karage(fried chicken) here because I think they really make it by hand. You can go to a lot of Japanese places in the city where the fried chicken all tastes about the same, but Misoya’s fried chicken is definitely unique. Try it out!

Meh. Visited Ramen Misoya with my friend after seeing the place listed in Thrillist’s 8 Best Under-the-Radar Ramen Spots in NYC. Let’s say we both understand why this place is under-the-radar. The ramen is just not that great. There are three different types of miso soup bases to choose from: kome, shiro, and mame. I opted for the shiro, which the menu described as «light and fruity», and my friend ordered the kome, which was supposed to be «rich and flavorful». Interesting descriptions. It almost felt like we were picking wine and not ramen. When our ramen arrived, we were both pleasantly surprised to find them both packed with toppings(the cha shu looked awesome!). Unfortunately, the ramen was just WAYTOOSALTY. My shiro was tolerable, but my friend’s kome was so salty to the point that I found it a bit bitter. Neither of us were able to finish our ramen. I’m a little surprised that this spot is surviving amidst the fierce competition in the NYC ramen scene. The strangest thing about this place was that our server was extremely frazzled and high-strung. Not sure if she was new to the job, but her jitters further ruined my dining experience here.

On the journey of trying all the ramen places in NYC and decided to give this place a try. Was kinda hesitant because some of the reviews say its great and others say its mehhhhh but the cheap $ 10 lunch special was too good to pass up. For $ 10, you get to pick between 3 different ramen miso soup bases and comes with either gyoza or rice. I got the Komo miso ramen with gyoza. As most of the reviews have said, check into Unilocal to get a piece of cha-shu for free! idk if i somehow ordered wrong or what why my ramen was not ramen. It was more like noodles you get when you order lo-mein from a chinese take out place. I was SOOO disappointed that it wasnt ramen or even close to the texture and taste of ramen. Though the soup base was good and the toppings in the«ramen» were good, i was completely thrown off by the dish because it wasnt ramen noodles!!! ugh. However, like i said, the soup base was pretty tasty. The komo comes with an egg which is a bonus. The cha-shu was really good and tender. The gyoza side came with 3 pieces and were good as well. Could have been fried a little more but the taste was definitely there. Not sure if white rice is included in the lunch deal but the waitress gave us white rice too for free! Overall the place would have been 4+ stars if I got actually ramen with my meal but nope :(Most likely will not be back but for you lo-mein noodle lovers, this is a place to check out.

The thing I like the most about misoya is that they have more options than most ramen places. Personally I do not eat pork or chicken but I do eat seafood so I was able to get a ramen with vegetable broth that had tempura shrimp. This place is more casual and cheaper than some of the other ramen places around. They have s good lunch special(ramen with fried rice or gyoza for $ 10) but we just ordered ramen. The service was fast and the portions are generous. I think the ramen was $ 11 and another 1.50 for the spicy sauce but it came with veggies, egg, and shrimp tempura. I would definitely come here next time I’m craving ramen and don’t want to spend $ 20+ or wait for a while

I was freezing in the office at work and I needed something hot and ramen was the answer. I’m glad I stopped by Ramen Misoya. PROS: — check-in from free mini cha –shu. the cha-shu was very good.(4.5STARS) — Miso Miso Ramen lunch combo with gyoza $ 10 — the ramen was really filling and tasty. They have lots of toppings in the ramen like minced meat, cabbage, egg, fried tofu, bean sprouts, compared to Ippudo. The egg was alright, I had better but that’s to be expected for a $ 10 combo lunch. I only have one tiny problem with the noodles. It was a little thicker than I liked it to be and it’s a bit on the firm side.(4STARS) — Gyoza — was made with chives and meat. I typically not a fan of chives and meat dumplings because my mom makes it all the time and I am turned off by it but this was OK probably because they marinated the fillings with lots of sauce. Problem was it had too much sauce and it’s saltier than I would like it to be.(3STARS) — cheap(it’s cheaper than Ippudo and tastes good) — no line(stopped by Ippudo earlier and they said there was a 30 min wait on a Monday afternoon) — service was fast. CONS: — none. Note: I’ll definitely be back for some hot ramen in the coming winter.
