Great service! We had the chorizo mussels, pork chops and red snapper and they all were great. Our waiter was really attentive … Would def come back

no stars for the State room because i never got a chance to go inside! i bought a deal on Gilt City for a mimosa brunch for two, was super excited to use this for a friends birthday but was never able to talk to anyone or go in to the place. i tried calling numberous times at different hours and no one would answer, no message on their mailbox other than an it saying it was full and couldnt take any more messages. when i get to the place of course it was closed, and the only sign they had was inside the restaurant on a table by the window saying something about it being closed and being recorded by cameras [wich i instantly saw on the side of the building] and to not try to tamper with the windows or doors because the security system would go on and cops would be called. total WTF moment. the 1 dish each and pitcher of mimosas for brunch would have been a GREAT way to start her birthday celebration that day, and we ended up having to find another spot. very disappointing. needless to say i am asking for my money back for this deal because i don’t plan on ever [trying] going here again.

A friend and I decided to try out State Room using a Scoutmob. It definitely exceeded my expectations, to say the least! The space inside has a great ambiance — it is classy with some unique touches without being over the top. Our meal got increasingly better with each course we had. We ordered the mixed greens salad(okay) to split, then I had the kobe beef sliders(delicious) and the lobster ravioli(amazing!). My friend had the salmon-belly tartare(she said it was good) and the vegetable risotto(soo good). We talked to the owner(or maybe he was an investor? not sure) who was super nice, and wanted to hear our honest opinions about the food. He brought us the jalapeño margarita and pearfect martini to try — they were both very good(and strong). My favorite cocktail there was definitely the summer fling. if you have the chance, definitely order it!

Totally mediocre food – it’s bar food, no more no less. The waiter was very nice but that was the only positive thing I can say about the experience. The calamari appetizer was tasteless; our fish entrees were totally forgettable; the dessert tasted industrial. My partner and I agreed that we would not be going back.

I’d describe State Room as a cross between a British pub and a lounge. The bar features two floors, each of which has a moderate amount of seating and a full bar. The décor is very pub-like(lots of dark, heavy wood), warm and charming. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. The real beauty of this place is the upstairs balcony. Although it’s small, it adds a really nice touch to the upstairs space. I just wish it weren’t constantly flocked by smokers. Overall, I had a good experience at State Room. I’d go back if I happened to be in in the area.

Don’t know what’s up with all the negative/mediocre reviews. I really liked this place. Checked it out on a Tuesday around dinner and it was virtually empty. It’s a small place, but since we were one of few patrons, this was not a problem. I thought the décor was really cute and semi-upscale(not fancy but definitely not dive bar quality). Don’t really remember what hte music selection was since so many people made comments about it, but it was definitely not your typical pop chart music or anything like that. It didn’t matter much anyway since I was there to catch up with a friend so I was more into our conversation than anything else. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing and was pleasant. I can’t speak too much about the menu since my friend and I ordered the same thing. I had the Kobe burger — which came with caramelized onions and gruyère cheese with a side of cucumbers & french fries. I ate the entire thing and was very satisfied. I didn’t try any of the specialty drinks, just had the apricot beer from Ithaca, which was really light and tasty. The cheesecake with wild strawberry sauce drizzled on the plate was also really good. Top that off with a 50% off coupon from Scoutmob, I have zero complaints. As a fan of hole in the wall, hidden gems, I will be coming back

This place has an music identity crisis, and doesn’t match it’s awesome ambiance it has. When I came in and sat down, the first song I heard was from Fall Out Boy. Not something I think that goes well with paintings of Shakespeare on the wall. Now for the food,.The Lobster ravioli with vodka sauce was good, but didn’t wow me. The Kobe Beef burger, I asked for medium well, and they sent me well done :(Kobe Beef doesn’t have much fat, and to get it well done just makes it dry. Also the burger came with an alioi, but I didn’t really taste it on my burger. The gold star wow moment for me was the dessert. Had the Chocolate Moose cake. I would really give this place 3 ½ stars if I could.

I’ll go out on a limb and give my State Room experience 4 stars. Basically I really enjoyed the place. We got great food and great service, and the ambiance is excellent. I recommend it for a cocktail or for dinner. We did a three course tasting menu. The calamari were cooked well and were not chewy. I would have liked a bit more punch in the«spicy» sauce. My wife got a simple salad and vinaigrette. It looked pretty boring but the dressing was surprisingly good. I don’t know why they don’t punch it up with some apples or something. Maybe the message is that if done right your basic green salad should actually be delicious? For the entrée I had a skirt steak. It was cooked right(a shockingly rare occurrence for this cut I find), seasoned well, and served with a pile of Parmesan cheese fries. No complaints! The pasta was also very good. The deserts were tasty if uninspired: a chocolate moose cake and a cheese cake. The way to do it is to eat both in the same bite. But why did I have to come up with that? Some of the critiques from others I’ve read seam reasonable, but they might have just gotten a bad night… or vice versa in my case. If the place were 10% cheaper and got a little more creative with some of the more pedestrian offerings on the menu, I could easily make this a favorite stop. As it is I left happy and will be back.

I actually loved the place! The décor is super cute and the food was good! We had the fried calamari and spinadh gnocchi for appetizers, both were delicious. Then we had the lobster ravioli, which was amazing but I wish the portion had been slightly bigger. My friends had the skirt steak and market fish and both were good. Overall wasn’t cheap but I think priced right for quality of food and atmosphere.

Well, the drinks were good. I had the 8th street smash and my girlfriend has the Pearfect Martini. I could see potentially coming back here for the drinks. The ambiance is really weird… trying to look like an old school english pub, but playing the most random music ever, including songs with dance beats… The food, was not good. After reading very mediocre reviews I figured I’d throw them an easy pitch and I ordered the Kobe Burger(i pronounced it Ko-bee, the somewhat pretentious waiter said Ko-bay, whatever I’m an Amurrican). Anyway, I ordered it medium. When it came, it was well done, and kind of cold, the bun, was also cold, they didn’t even throw it on the grill. The fries? Cold and wilting, clearly they didn’t time the dishes well. Thoroughly average and thoroughly a salty salty salty meal. I could get a better tasting and prepared burger down the street at Burger Creations… no joke My girlfriend ordered the fish of they day, it was ok. I’m still trying to figure out how they created such an ambitiously priced menu…

Upon entering, the State Room has a great ambiance and sets your expectations high for a wonderful meal. However, as the meal went on, the food was really no better than most other Greenwich Village eateries. The good points were: 1) Service was extremely attentive and polite, 2) Ambiance was perfect — not too noisy, and decorated wonderfully, 3) Drinks were well crafted The bad points: 1) Food was fine, but no better than somewhere else(we had the brussel sprouts– undercooked, gnocchi– overcooked, ravioli, and market fish), 2) It was realistically too high a price for the quality, when I know that I can get better food for the same price elsewhere. In all, I didn’t leave disappointed, just underwhelmed. The physical space has great potential if the kitchen could match it.

Okay, this is a beautiful place, but the ambiance was completely negated by the bartender who had no understanding of their own liquor menu(or even know what rye whiskey was). When I read great specialty drinks, I expect you know how to make a Manhattan(without froth) and have a full bar. The music selection was a complete 180 from the décor, rap top 40 hip hop hits from 2005, one horrible song after another. It really made me want to leave. One plus side, the service was prompt and friendly. I’m sure with a change of the iPod, some basic drink training and a better whiskey selection this place could be one of my favorite haunts.

Excellent menu and specialty drinks. The brandy soaked cherries with makers and honey is going to be my new summer drink. Everything from the fish n chips to the lamb on the menu looked great.

3.5 the state room is rabbit in the moon under new management. i went for a drink and the staff was learning how to bartend and sampling food. the roast chicken(which i only had a bite of) shared kindly by a staff member was really delicious — compliments to the chef. the cocktails we ordered were also delicious, it’s just a bit pricey for a short drink menu. the atmosphere is so great though so i’m willing to try and test again.

Okay… I don’t completely regret coming here because at least now I know and I had good company. We were two little old bickering ladies pondering the meaning of life… and drinking drinks with old, funny-smelling cucumbers and bitter peach concentrate. Also, their«old-fashioned» was topped off with soda water which was just weird and the overall flavor was gross. the ambiance… was very pleasant! kind of takes me back to some place in London… or any place in London. Fries were way too salty. Moving on.
