**UPDATE** closed… :( Most authentic thai food I’ve had in NYC. Prices are reasonable(the weekday lunch special is a bargain!) and the quality is always consistently good. This is our go-to Thai place.

Had the pleasure of coming to the restaurant with my friend whom had been there before, Charlie the owner and out server was very nice and funny and made the meal very enjoyable, I wish him the best of luck ! This place had great customer service and good food! Golden triangles were very yummy, and the beef krapraw was good, Thai iced tea to wash it all down!

Ordered: Grandmas Special aka Pad See Ew to go. Prep: Very Quick Portion Size: Very Small Taste: Was like no Pad See Ew I have ever had. Maybe they forgot to put on the sauce, maybe they do it on purpose idk. It was dry and missing something to tie the bowl of broccoli, noodles and chicken together. Price: Avg @ $ 10.10

One word review: YUM. I got just a simple green curry, but I asked for medium-to-hot spice, which usually gets me OMG I CAN’T EATTHIS or WHEREISTHEFLAVOR. The chef himself came out and brought us our food. He presented mine and said«edible spicy!» And it totally was. The perfect amount of spice to give it a serious kick, but not so much that I had steam coming out of my ears. Apart from that, the flavor was seriously delicious. It’s a tiny place with just a few tables, but I love the cozy feel and the staff. I was very glad my friends brought us here!

I’ve only have delivery from Tara Thai, so maybe(please dear God) the food is better eaten in the actual restaurant. My food was edible. And the delivery was prompt. Now that I’ve gotten the only positive attributes out of the way… I got the Kratiam with beef. It was totally uninspired. Tough beef. Flavorless. With so many good Thai options in the neighborhood I would definitely skip this place.

Love it. Amazing customer service. I went there a while back though… maybe during my spring break so in march and the place was nice and cozy. The waiter was so cute! and nice and helpful. OK I know this review isn’t the most helpful but just go and experience

Not only did I falll deeply in tastebud love with the food but I also fell deeply in love with the man sitting across from me. I know I know a bit mushy but ever-so– true. Now to discuss food business. I absolutely adore their spring rolls, pad see ew noodles with chicken, pad thai and really just about everything on that menu. The hospitality and warmness from the staff here makes it an even more cuter place to look forward to returning to. It’s romantic, cozy, affordable and DELICIOUS!

Green Curry with Tofu(or any Curry with Tofu) comes with NO Broccoli at all. The only vegetables it comes with is about 3 or 4 slices of Green Pepper. They charge extra for rice with is a pet peeve of mine. Drink selection is that of a cafeteria vending machine. Hubby HATED his fried rice — said it smelt like«Dog shit». Not the cleanest or cheapest place around.

Pretty good thai food, and great ambiance and friendly service. Warm, cozy, tasty, and not terrifically expensive.

I had some high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews but honestly I was disappointed. I ordered the Panang and I was slightly disappointed, I felt there were better options in the city. I will want to try some other food again but for now I cant recommend it

Nice, casual, low key joint with really awesome food. The best tofu soup I’ve had. It’s not typical little cubes of tofu but real fresh tofu blocks. So so yummy. And I hear they may be expanding soon so definitely check them out :)

First impression: I love lunch specials! Salads can cost up to $ 9, and chipotle is expensive, but thai is always a good route for a nice, relatively cheap, sit-down meal. The $ 6 lunch special: chicken pad thai was good. Medium spicy was exactly what my tastebuds approve of. but I realized why it was so cheap; no appetizer or drink included. Hard to find the BESTTHAIRESTAURANT of all of time in NYC, but this one was good enough for me

We stumbled upon this place during our food spree; the lunch special was calling us. $ 6 between 11am(i think) and 4:30pm. I personally liked the pad thai better because grandma’s special reminded me of the Chinese stir-fry noodles with beef. The pad thai wasn’t spicy at all even though we asked for mild. It was really sweet. I think it tastes better with the lemon juice. The place is small and the bathroom strongly smells of incense(depending on your taste, that may or may not be the deal breaker). Since we were there at around 4, there was only one other party so it was really quiet. The service was good enough – our waiter didn’t speak English well, and spoke so softly, so I had to ask him to repeat. That was probably just me because my friend understood him fine… You can definitely tell the difference between this and other thai restaurants because the dishes we had were so flavorful. If I wasn’t so full from the other stuff I’ve had on my spree, I would’ve ordered something else. The portions are on the small side but I recommend you to come here because it’s «as good as it gets.»

This small family owned Thai joint is definitely worth trying. As I’ve eaten a lot of thai food in my life, I have never really felt like there were too many differences throughout the restaurants. Yes, you’ll have your higher quality place with an extra kick here and there but the dishes are pretty similar and usually prepared not too different. However, Tara Thai adds unique flavors to a few of their dishes that I’ve never seen before such as avacado, mangos, etc… Although i didn’t try their house special fried rice, it looked absolutely amazing with mussels pineapple and much more.

Met here for a friends birthday-I had mostly appetizers. It was all tasty and the staff was accommodating as we had several vegans in our group.

This place is quite wrong. We got take out here, which I ordered in the restaurant. The service was pleasant enough and the wait wasn’t long. But the food wasn’t particularly special or interesting. in fact, it was boring and bland and suspicious smelling. The spring rolls were deep friend in oil that was not very clean and they didn’t seem to be filled with very much. The chicken curry was OK but the peppers tasted a bit rotten. Rice was overcooked. My friend’s vegetable fried rice was white rice with about 20 peas, 10 chunks of onion and a sauce to make it brown(which hadn’t been stirred through. One bright spot was the Laab Nua. Two stars because I was hungry and it was quick and cheap and I feel forgiving at the moment.

I first stumbled across this place with my friend last year, and had a wonderful time where the lovely waiter gave us dessert for free and made us a fried ice cream ball because we’d never tried it. This year, upon returning to New York, I have to say, it made my trip worthwhile. I think the service in here is exceptional, the staff were so polite and helpful and the food was really really good. I’m still thinking about my Thai green curry. I wanted to lick the plate it was that good and I am no plate licker. I’ve had better Thai desserts to be honest, but for the price and the service and that fact that the food has always been really good when I’ve been here(I know good food). I think it has to be one of my favourite places to eat in New York.

My staunch thesis on all Thai food in New York being MOREORLESS made equal aside, Tara Thai should really reconsider a few things components of their operation. First, the joint is arranged such that only 4 parties of +2 have seating accommodations — and all on the left half of the railroad, making it look awfully off-kilter. They did, however, kindly rearrange a couple of couples’ tables for us, much to the chagrin of fire hazard furniture configurations. We had the«famous golden triangles» to start — which were ostensibly flaccid samosas. My sister ordered a tofu curry; I ordered a tofu in sweet and sour sauce. When the entrees arrived, we were bemused to find that our dishes were visibly identical, save for the frothy white soup saturating her vegetables, and the syruppy red stuff saturating mine. Portions /prices were of note, on the positive side.
