We went back last Friday night for a 2nd time under the new ownership… The first time was excellent and this was was AWESOME… My filet was cooked to perfection and the potato was deeeelish… We had a new waitress and she was a good as it gets… Customer service was spot on and AJ the manager welcomed us right when we walked through the door… The grade of meat is far better than what the old owners had… I WOULDGIVETHEM10STARSIF I COULD… Check out this place if you are ever in town

I’ve lived in Newark for a long time and now I’m kicking myself that I never came here before. I came here twice in the last couple of months and the experience was the same both times. Becks’s is a classic old steakhouse. Dark paneling, low lighting and lots of meat. A little too dark in that without her glasses, my wife had me hold my cell phone over the wine list. That would have knocked off a half star but it’s the only deduction. My wife, son and I ordered steaks that came out at the correct level of done with a huge potato(with the foil still on) and broccoli that they got perfect, cooked past the bitter but stil crunchy. The steak was supposed to weign in at 10 ounces pre-cooked weight but this thing must have weighed in at more than that post cooking, it occupied a serious portion of my plate(note: That is NOT a complaint) The waitresses were attractive and attentive but not hovering. Missing is the seemingly required steak house sports bar in the middle of the restaurant that increases the noise level. No, Becks is quiet enough to hear your tablemates’ conversation. I like that. Note that I’m not a foodie, wine snob or a fussy eater. I really like a good steak, a glass of flavorful beer served in a nice environment at a decent price. Beck’s Steakhouse nailed it and we’ll be back.

Went here on a Saturday night in a group of 5. My fiancé made a reservation(even though we would have been able to be seated immediately as a group of 2 — the hostess didn’t take a second to listen to us that we had a reservation. That’s ok — fast seating is always good!) and we were seated immediately once our whole group arrived. We were seated toward the back/side where a waiter station was. so there was going to be a lot of foot-traffic(and when people walked by, the whole floor shook around us.) It was kind of annoying but was quickly considered the least of our annoyances with the place. We were seated underneath the AC and we asked if we could be moved one of the waiters(?) told us he’d just turn it off. Ok, great. thank you. It was off for maybe 10 minutes max. Just enough time for the freezing chill to subside… then it kicked back on again. Food — I ordered the chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised: plenty of meat and it had a nice tasty char on it as well(I was concerned there might not be much flavor.) The portion size was huge and it had plenty of goodies on top. I asked for thousand island and was given what looked like a small soup cup full of the dressing — a little much but not a big deal! Just don’t waste your stuff guys! My fiancé ordered the prime rib and he should leave his own review but from what he said to me, it was extra chewy and hard to even cut with the knife he was given. That’s a bummer — this was for his birthday and he loves prime rib. It was why he chose the place. Waitress — Our waitress was ok but she sneaks up on you. Most of the time if someone is going to place a plate infront of you, they kind of warn you beforehand. She would just sneak up and hopefully you don’t turn at the wrong time and get a face-full of food. She also only checked on us once during the meal. Atmosphere. oh boy. Ok beyond the creaky, bouncing floors(it’s an old building, I get it. I will move beyond that.) they didn’t do anything about disruptive guests. There was a large family and they let one of their little ones run around, screaming, crying etc. The kid’s mother, would run after, pick the kid up and kind of laugh about it, half heartedly tell ‘em to be quiet but ultimately continue to let the kid run around screaming/crying. Yes the fault here lies within the parent — but at some point can’t the manager walk up and say something? I dunno. it’s a tricky subject I’m sure. The lack of control made the atmosphere very uncomfortable. Not sure we’ll be back at this point, just not sure it’s worth another try.

I’ll call it 3.5 stars. Nice place, I’ve been here before but it’s been a while. When it comes to getting a steak dinner in the tri-cities Beck’s fits the bill. Very good steak, it’s what they do and they do it well. For the life of me I can’t understand why you’d stand in line at a chain restaurant when you can waltz right in here. Nice dining room with lots of dark wood, plenty of room between tables and a warm atmosphere. We walked in and were promptly seated in a dining room that was about 75% empty, water and bread appeared almost the minute we sat down, that was nice. I wanted wine but there was no mention on the menu of what they had, the teenage server said they had house red and house white, when pressed she came back with a wine list. The wine was the deal of the night $ 4.00 for a generous pour of the house wine which happened to be BV vineyards. The other wines by the glass also appeared to be priced nicely. Wife and I both got the 8 ounce filet which turned out to be thick and cooked just like ordered, the veggies were cooked just right and the baked potato was cooked to perfection. The lack of a star has to do with the server. She meant well but had a «fast food attitude». Constantly saying«your food is coming out soon» this five minutes after we ordered. The soup arrived about sixty seconds after we ordered it and it seems like she thought each course had to be rushed out. I finally told her for about the third time«we’re not in a hurry». If I want fast food I’ll go get fast food, I wanted to enjoy the evening and savor the food not feel like I was at Burger King. One other gripe has to do with the prices on the menu, I looked at their web site before we went. Our steaks were $ 5.00 more than the menu on the web site. I’ll go back whenever I want a good steak dinner — nice place.

Haven’t been back to the place for a while and decided to go there tonight. Wow! My filet mignon was fabulous! Every bite was excellent, cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious! It was surprisingly large, larger than I’d expect a filet mignon to be. My baked potato was huge and stayed hot throughout my meal(and I eat slowly). Even the salad, ‘though basic, was very good, crisp greens, good blue cheese dressing(with added crumbles of bleu cheese), really yummy croutons. We had a good meal here the last time but I think this one topped it. My husband’s prime rib was cooked just the way he asked for it and was, like my steak, delicious. The service was perfect, attentive, prompt, unobtrusive — the kind of service that makes you want to tip well. Our server during our previous visit was a bit of an irritation but not tonight! I think we’ll start going here more often! No pain, great steaks, great service. Beck’s is moderately priced for the quality of the steaks(this is not Outback, folks). Total for filet mignon(admittedly an expensive cut of beef), prime rib(the real thing), two glasses of wine and two iced teas, was just under $ 60.00. That’s a bargain for such a satisfying meal. We’ll be back — soon!

I tried this place for the first time last Saturday and I was pleasantly surprised. We were going to go to BJ’s but with a 45 min. wait, we said no thank you. The place is out in the cuts, and a lot of people don’t know about it. The set up is dim for dinner, but if you want somewhere quiet, this is the place for you. They had a covered patio(that’s where we sat), and it was little snug, but cozy for a small party. We had fried zucchini for appetizer and that was delicious. I ordered the peppercorn steak done medium, but when it came out, it was slightly overcooked. However, it was still tasty. I think the rib eye would be the best choice(I stole a piece from my brother!), it was juicy and flavorful. Our waitress was nice enough, polite and soft spoken. However, it took her forever to check on us and bring out ketchup. Overall, I would come here again if I craved for steak. The price wasn’t too bad and the food was worth it.

My boyfriend’s friend was having his birthday dinner here and asked me if I’ve heard of Beck’s. That was a «nope, but I’ll find out about it!» kind of a deal. For some reason I was having some kind of a brain malfunction and kept on thinking Birk’s…which clearly is not the name of this fine establishment. It’s located in a nice modified house a little bit away from Newpark Mall, since the mall is all Newark is good for to a Fremontian like myself. I will now commence to make a list of things I liked, and things I didn’t like because rambling paragraphs aren’t fun to read: Things I liked: 1. It’s in an old converted house. I liked that it was a different option from all the chain restaurants that are nearby, and that it was clearly a small business. 2. They really try to make it a nice meal and dining experience. 3. Our server for the evening was friendly. Things I did not like: 1. I ordered my steak rare. To be exact, I asked for it to be «bloody rare» and when the server said«medium rare?» I said, «No, bloody rare, as in really really really rare.» She said«Okay, rare» and I got my steak medium well. I do not like that this happened. I waited so long and there were so many people in the party that I wasn’t going to make a fuss about it. 2. Our bartender for the evening, nicknamed«Mama» by our server, was kind of rude. She expressed her irritation with how our party had 16 people in it at the moment and could have been seated in the main dining area of the restaurant. The reservations had been called in 16 – 20 and more people were on the way from all parts of the Bay Area. That’s really not something you say to a customer’s face unless you plan to move them out of the room. 3. Food wasn’t very exciting. Standard sourdough bread, nice and warm but with cold butter pats in foil. Salad is a cheap mix with likely Kraft bottled ranch. Yes I’m a ranch dressing connoisseur. Don’t judge me. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that large parties are hard to deal with. I appreciate that we got our own server and part-time bartender. I also like the idea of an independently owned steakhouse and a change of scenery. The rude bartender I could have stomached again if the food impressed me, which it did not. 1 star for trying to be different, 1 star for mediocre food, 1 star for good company and good service.

Giving this place 3.5 stars on behalf of my boyfriend Came here on NYE for dinner and wasn’t too surprised by the slow service, but I have this thing about my food needing to be piping hot and well it wasn’t the case here. Cons: Menu stated they had mash potatoes, staff insisted they didn’t Food only luke warm Coffee only luke warm and did not bring cream or a spoon to stir Pros: My bf thought the prime rib was cut and cooked beautifully. Best he ever had $ 21 for a 16oz ribeye $ 22 for a 18 oz primerib

RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNN!!! Much to the dismay of my Uncle, who’s a *big* fan, this place is not worth going to, ever. I can see the reason why if you’re a family on a budget and want to treat your clan to a steak dinner that you would want to go here, but Outback’s steaks are even better quality. As numerous Unilocalers have already remarked, the big draw of this joint is the ratio of food served per dime spent. Five of us ordered steaks, and not one was cooked to order. Four of the five ordered rib-eyes, and no one at the table had ever had a rib-eye as tough as tonight. It may as well have been a thick slab of London Broil with inserted chunks of fat. Note, the fat was not marbled through the steak, it was grissled chunks on the edges. gag. The sides are huge and tasty, but honestly, how can you jack up a baked potato? I ordered their«fries» and it’s more like potato skins deep fried sans sour cream and cheese. They were pretty tasty. The clam chowder was thick enough. We were scared after reading a review that it was thin and watery. However, the taste was summed up with, «I’ve had better, way better.» The clams tasted canned and the soup base lacked any depth. The refills were on point, so at least I wasn’t without Diet Coke. The bread was so so, not crunchy enough for me. Random I know, but what’s up with the baby silverware? I could practically fist my entire fork, granted I have«man hands» but still. Go to Outback and jack their cutlery so people can better enjoy their beef. Points for Jenna, she’s sweet.

my boyfriend lives near newark and one night i was craving steak so we checked out what places seemed good i think on Unilocal.we found becks and we decided to try it. first of all i got the truck drivers dinner or whatever… what it is, its a 32oz steak cooked to order for only 23 dollars… i decided i could take the rest of it home and it took me almost a week to finish it. but anyway it was sooo good… i love my steak rare and they cooked it perfectly. also it comes with soup or salad and veggies and your choice of patatoes. i added grilled mushrooms and onions making my dinner the best. this food was sooo good. our first time there we had a very sweet waitress(the second time she seemed to have sucked a bit) but the first time she was very corteous and really informative. my boyfriend ordered the steak and grilled prawn for like 23 bucks. the prawns were HUGE!!! and they came with diferent dipping sauces. and he liked his steak very much. we got an appetizer before all this. the calamari… this was good like regular calamari… so i was very satisfied… for the portions and for the price for a steak house… very good!!!

Party of 10 adults and 2 kids went there on a weeknight. We had a reservation but we still had to wait a few minutes to be seated even though the place was nearly empty. The table they prepared for us did not give us much of an elbow room… half of our party was pushed back against the wall that if one of them had to use the toilet in the middle of dinner, four people would have to get up to make way for that person. I guess we could have requested for another table but we didn’t want to have to wait again. I ordered the ribeye which came with either soup or salad, mixed vegetables, and choice of side dish. I got the salad and rice for my side dish. I should have ordered the soup(minestrone). I was surprised at how generous the size of the steak was relative to the price. Great value for money. I was almost ready to give this place just one star but the food saved the day! I would probably go back there given the chance.

Beck’s is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the area, for steaks. They have a really good prime rib, which is hard to find at any of the restaurants in the area, since the Tri-City area is sparce on steakhouses now. Usually get really good service here from the waitresses, although I have had a few off times(hence the minus one star).

I don’t live in the area anymore. But when I am in Fremont, CA and want a decent steak dinner, this is a good choice. It looks like an old farmhouse outside. It’s a free standing building with its own parking lot, it’s easy in and easy out. I don[’t recall having to wait often — even without reservations which they take. They even have trees in the parking lot so you might find a shady parking spot on a hot day. You climb up a few steps… and nice inside also. It’s a little dark. They’ve got pictures of movie stars from the 50’s on the wall, and the music piped in is mostly classiic rat pack. «And now, the end is near and so I face the final curtain…» might play in the background as you’re finishing your meal. Service is good. Our waiter was friendly, knew the menu and efficient, though it seemed he had half the tables that night. For some reason, the first Friday night of June was the busiests I’ve ever seen it — probably grads. It’s casual, though some senior diners were dressed up. The bus people were quick getting used plates off the table. The drinks and french bread with butter cam e out fast. My brother and I shared a carafe of burgundy for about $ 10. Yes, I love a great bottle of wine, but this was going to be an expensive weekend and was more than open to save some bucks on the wine. it took about 20 minutes to get our food — not bad. My nephew and I both the the 18 oz. prime rib, his was well done, mine was medium. My brother had the New York steak. It was well seared outside, tender and juicy on the inside. All of the items came cooked the way were ordered. The prime rib was good, and it was a huge piece for a $ 20 with a garlic rub on the outside. It wasn’t as flavorful as as some places, but good. All meals come with a salad or soup with bread and butter. I chose the clam chowder. It was good, though it wasn’t as thick, creamy, as sweet, or as loaded with clams as some others I’ve had. My nephew said he like his salad, though it looked typical but the lettuces were gresh. The steamed vegetables that came with the meal were good but slightly overcooked. It was a julienned carrot, zucchini, broccoli, califlower mix that night. My party could hear each other talk though the neighboring tables can eavesdrop on each other. Unfortunately, there was nothing exciting like a couple having an affair talking dirty or someone inheriting a million bucks. You could hear the laughers and nraggers(and probably liars) in the bar area from where we were. Total tab for 3 was about $ 80. The waiter placed our lifteover entrees in a container and a paper bag. Overall, it was a nice time. I was tempted to give it 4 stars, but not quite. For a steak house, I’ll save that for a place that can match my own charcoal seared, teryaki marinated steak I cook at home.

True: the building has been there for many, many years. The building originally housed«The Farmhouse», a Newark staple for as long as I can remember, and I was born and raised in Newark. That said, I can’t remember the last time there was a renovation. Don’t let that deter you! I consider the décor«throw back kitsch». The bar: the bar is usually hopping, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Standard juke box. You can order from the full menu in the bar, and Darrel is a GREAT bartender! The food: Each time we go there I try a new dish. I’ve never been disappointed. My husband almost always gets the prime rib and I can’t blame him: Its the BOMB! Awesome house salad(ask for tomatoes if you like ‘em), yummy clam chowder and minestrone. Also, their shrimp salad entrée is incredible! The service: We’ve experienced very personal and speedy service every time we go to Becks. Enjoy!

We love this place! I highly recommend the ribeye, it’s so juicy and delicious. I usually prefer a t-bone, but they have a funny taste here so I stay away from them but the ribeye is amazing. The steaks have a great charred taste and are usually cooked perfectly(I like mine rare, wife gets medium rare.) I’ve also had the salmon and the trout and both were good. Great atmosphere, quiet and quaint, nice cloth tablecloths, and when you return they remember you and treat you like an old friend who’s just returned home. It’s family run and many of the wait staff have been there for years. They’re very attentive without being overbearing and treat you like royalty. «Mom» still makes the crème brûlée and it’s an amazing way to end your meal(if they’re not sold out already.) They have good wines at good prices, but I agree that the appetizers aren’t anything special, mostly deep fried and forgettable. Also, don’t get this Beck’s confused with the imposter of the same name located in Fremont or you’ll be sorely disappointed.

My friend and I went here last night for dinner since he was craving steak and the places he wanted to go to were closed. It looked kind of fancy inside so ok… whatever. We sat down and ordered calamari. He tasted it first and said it was cold. I ate one and it was hot… well, the calamari plate was half cold and half hot. I had the salmon with a baked potato and minestrone soup. My friend had the Top steak or whatever with a baked potato as well and salad. I wasn’t aware that minestrone soup had cheese on it? It was ok… but had a lot of garlic chunks in it. My friend tasted some of my soup and liked it. I only ate like 10% of my dinner and my friend’s steak was cooked like medium rare when he asked for rare. He said the steak was ok… but not the best. Veggies were way overcooked. I think the only thing that was semi-decent tasting was the bread and the baked potato. Service was ok but she did take a little long at times. Wasn’t much people in that place. My friend and I both agreed that we weren’t gonna go back there ever again. Price was decent though… I guess.

Old school atmosphere, it’s like dining at someones grandparent’s house out in the Midwest with farmhouse stylings and Bing Crosby and Dean Martin crooning over the soundtrack. This is a meat n potatoes place(a la Midwest) nothing special, just substantial. Come to get fed, not so much to get entertained b/c the prices are good for how much you get. Skip the appetizers as the choices are abysmal. Bay shrimp cocktail or a slew of mediocre fried apps just aren’t worth it. Go straight to a steak and potato. Even though I’m sure they don’t use a USDA«choice» grade or better(which is a hallmark to any legit steakhouse) they serve up a one pound slab of either rib eye or new york for about $ 18. Comes with all the amenities also, soup/salad, starch and vegetables. Now that’s an ok deal if you come hungry for this kind of meal. My baked potato came with a scoop of margarine(screeeeetch!) uh I’m sorry but there is a huge difference between real sweet cream butter and artificial yellow fake butter made from hydrogenated vegetable oils. Next time say no butter on the potato and use the wrapped butter from the bread service. Wine and drinks here are very reasonable as their corkage fee is only $ 8, and we also got a $ 26 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that was very good for its price. Very reasonable mark-ups on their wine. So even though being not exceptional, this place is darn good for casual day to day grubbing. A huge steak dinner after work kind of place if I’ve felt I deserved such a thing. And a bottle of a California red along tow, nonetheless.

This place has been in business since 1971, it serves reasonably priced food and great hours. After hiking 7.7 miles I was starving so I wanted some place that had an early dinner. Hubby was tired of Asian food so I picked Beck’s Steak & Seafood. We got there by 4pm and there was maybe 1 person sitting in the dining room. We waited for the hostess and then were brought to a dark table. Since we were early, I asked for a table w/a window and we got it. Free warm bread w/butter given. Iced water given and refilled often. Since they have their menu online I knew what I wanted. Prime rib dinner. It’s only served Fri-Sun. I got the petite prime rib — 12 oz prime rib for $ 16.99. Oven Roasted. Seasoned With Garlic, Salt, And Pepper. Homemade Au Jus And Horseradish. All Dinners Served With Soup Or Salad, Vegetables And Choice Of Baked Potato, Rice, Or French Fries. I thought my prime rib which I wanted medium rare was too thick & chewy, baked potato was fine, veggies just ok. I picked minestrone soup and thought it was fairly average. Hubby got T-Bone Steak 16 – 18 oz. T-bone steak dinner $ 19.99. All Dinners Served With Soup Or Salad, Vegetables And Choice Of Baked Potato, Rice, Or French Fries. He thought his wasn’t cooked medium rare like he wanted, but he didn’t complain. He got the clam chowder soup which he liked. I found it really salty. He picked baked potato & liked it. Credit cards taken. Separate bathrooms-men on the Left on the entrance, Women on the Right.
