It makes me so sad this location is closed now. I have no idea what happened but I found it a darling spot. I went last winter for a company luncheon, and although it was far more expensive than I can afford at the moment, it was some of the most enjoyable food I ever had.

We decided to try this place for dinner after walking by and seeing their sign for the $ 19 prix fixe menu. We were having an early 5:30 after work dinner so we were seated right away upon waking in as the restaurant wasn’t busy. I ordered the prix fixe salmon entrée which came with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection! The first course was either a salad, French onion soup, or the soup du jour. I went with the salad and BF ordered the French onion soup. Both were delicious. I stole a bit of his soup to dip my bread in, which was also delicious and extremely fresh! I had 3 pieces of bread bc it was so good. BF ordered the filet for his entrée. He loved it and said it was excellent. I had a bite and I thought so as well. The portion sizes were perfect. Not too small and not too large at all. Too many people in this county want everything at restaurants to be super sized, so it was nice to see a well portioned plate for a change. Dessert was truly amazing. I am not even a big dessert person, but both things we had were excellent and we ate every ounce of it. My BF is a bit of a dessert connoisseur, so I typically default to him for choosing what to get. There were 3 choices for the prix fixe dessert. We went with the Crème Caramel and Ile Flottante and shared them. One was similar to a flan and the other similar to angel food cake. The caramel flavor on both was so so so yummy. For $ 19 this was an incredible value and we will definitely go back. Even the regular non prix fixe menu was reasonably priced. I would like to go for their happy hour sometime in the bar area and check out their drinks and appetizers(we didn’t order alcohol at dinner). Ambiance is very nice. It is dark and decorated with deep red and brown colors. Very upscale looking interior. Service was very good. Our server was French and he offered recommendations to us and provided great service during our meal. 5 stars for the service, ambiance, and definitely the food!

Food: I met up with my friend to eat here after work. They had a special menu called the perfect 10 menu. It consists of a few excellent entrees for $ 10 and some perfect wines. But they have to be ordered before 6:30pm. I ordered the Filet a la Bordelaise, which was a grilled filet mignon cooked medium rare with gratin potatoes and mixed vegetables topped with Bordelaise sauce. The food was delicious and you’re definitely getting your money’s worth for only $ 10! They also have a good decent wine list. Service: We sat at the bar. My friend knew the bartender and we got excellent service especially with our drinks. Location: It is located in Fashion Island, almost next to Macy’s. Parking close to the restaurant can be hard to find. But if you don’t mind a short walk, just park closer to Macy’s.

The $ 10 menu is back!!! Braised short rib with mashed potatoes and a side of veggies for $ 10!!! Mussels and shrimp for $ 8 and much more!!! Such a great deal I love it! Chocolate soufflé $ 9!(Not on the $ 10 menu) but none the less –YUMMYYYYY! But they get 4 stars for the following reasons. The one and only Riesling they have by the glass was so terrible I had to send it back! I’ve NEVER had to send wine back, but it really was that bad! They offered me a Pinot Grigio then came back to tell me they were out and instead brought me a Chardonnay which was also tasteless and a waste of calories. The service is hit or miss. The last night we went we got lucky and had an excellent server but there have been times we’ve gone where we don’t even know who our server is and they leave us waiting for at least 20 minutes before getting us our drinks. Really I should leave only 3 stars just for service alone but the food really is good. Seeing as how I’ve been back on several occasions regardless of poor service I’m giving this place 4 stars.

It feels like it wasn’t too long ago when we had first heard about Brasserie Pascal. It was always on the list of places to check out but that list just keeps on growing as more and more restaurants invade the Orange County scene(in a good way!). We’ve looked up to Chef Pascal Olhats, owner, ever since we had heard about him, watched him do a demo, and applauded his Golden Foodie Award wins. Situated in Newport Beach’s Fashion Island, Brasserie Pascal is a mix of both fine dining and casual eating. The food is superb and of the caliber of fine dining with an intimate French environment to boot(low lighting, dark reds with blacks, and smooth French jazz playing softly in the background). The«casual» comes with the low-middle ground price point, the location of the restaurant in a shopping center, and a welcoming feeling for diners who may be dressed quite casually for their day out in Newport. We ventured out one evening to quell our curiosity and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The start of the meal was so promising with fresh bread and their Olive Tapenade made with anchovy, black olives, salt and pepper, and olive oil. If you’re wondering what to have from their extensive and tempting offerings, they do have a dinner prix fixe menu of three courses for only $ 19 a person. We ended up with two appetizers, two entrees, and two desserts for the evening. Normally we like to pick off of a small plates menu so that we can taste a bit of everything, and based on the menu descriptions, it sounded like everything we ordered would allow for that(despite being called entrees). The low lighting made picture taking slightly awkward(as well as the intimate setting — what were these kids doing here snapping pictures of their food?). However, we pulled off everything and enjoyed watching the different types of dishes they had available, including our tableside service of the tartare. Our Steak Tartare($ 21 — raw filet chopped and prepared tableside with red onions, capers, freshly ground pepper, and squeeze of lemon with a side of greens, toast, and French fries) was presented with a variety of options to choose from in terms of what we wanted to mix the filet with. We opted for everything actually, just to see what it would be like in full form. The filet was tender and finely chopped, a perfect texture for slathering atop the toast we had. The capers were few but gave a good amount of savory-sour to the meat, and the general manager’s tip was to eat a burning hot French fry right before each bite. It sounds strange but for some reason, it was sublime — the heat of the very hot starch combined with the coldness of the meat somehow melded into a great experience. We also had the Escargot en Croute($ 12 — wild Burgundy snails, garlic herb butter, and puff pastry) and starters Pascal’s Special Roasted Beef Bone Marrow($ 14 — served with toast points and a side of Pascal’s favorite condiments). The escargot was a tad heavy on the buttery and oily side due to the divots under which the puff pastry sat but still delicious. The bone marrow came with amazing toast and despite there being multiple condiments, tasted best with just a pinch of the sea salt flakes(just the way General Manager Herve likes it and recommended!). We felt quite taken care of by our great server Chris and the occasional recommendations from Herve as he came by. When we ordered the crepes, we were alerted that the plate usually comes with two so they recommend having one of each of their choices: Spinach and Artichoke Crepes($ 16 — mixed vegetables, fingerling potatoes, and chive buerre blanc) and Chicken and Mushroom Crepes($ 16 — mixed vegetables, fingerling potatoes, and sherry truffle crème sauce). After all that we had had, it was quite the heavy dish so we only managed to get a bite of each before packing it to go. However, the sauces were rich and creamy, and the filling very subtly seasoned. It’s not for those who desire more flavorful dishes. The dessert was a plate of their Chocolate Soufflé with Gran Marnier and Flourless Chocolate Cake, both of which were decadent in their own way. The soufflé seemed a smidge undercooked toward the middle but the outside edges were wonderfully crisp. We enjoyed the dense flourless chocolate cake that was paired with a miniature teacup of espresso to wash down the decadence; I preferred this between the two. Not only was their food a fine a experience but their service and generosity outstanding as well. To our surprise, we were told at the end of our meal that it would be on the house via the arrangement of their PR based on a prior communication I had had because of the blog. My thanks to Sue, Herve, and Chris for treating us that evening, and we are both looking forward to coming back again and again.

They have some amazing deals on their food here. The ambiance can be quaint, but can also be loud and busy when the restaurant is full. We dined there on a Saturday evening around 6pm and it was just about a full house. We were lucky enough to get a same-day dinner reservation. The décor is dark but nice, with open windows against the booths/walls. Service can be hit or miss, in our case, it was hit and then miss. Our server was prompt in taking our order, but then it became a miss as we had to wait a while for bread, setups, and my boyfriend’s salad came out along with his Filet Mignon. Also, the server seldom checked on us, so we had to flag her down once or twice. Here’s what we ordered: * $ 10 Filet Mignon — tender, perfectly cooked and portioned with amazing sauce * $ 19 Salmon — tender and flavorful, perfect portion, came with steamed veggies and a salad — the salad had really big pieces of lettuce and I wished they cut it a bit smaller(they were the size of my mouth open) * $ 20 Halibut — it was the daily special; was soft and buttery — very good Food is great here, while service is 50⁄50. Good for a date or small get together with family or friends. Try not to bring your unruly children here, so other patrons can enjoy their meal. :)

Can’t go wrong with escargot. You can, however, get overwhelmed with too much puff pastry action by getting escargot AND seafood vol-au-vent. That being said, the vol-au-vent was dynamite and my steak au poivre was a hunk of peppery, meaty, deliciousness. And the pommes frittes – so thin, so crispy, so good. Definitely coming back for more snail action and Hendrick’s Gin.

One of the best all around experiences at a restaurant that I’ve had in Orange County. I brought my wife here for a day after Valentines dinner and upon entering, you are immediately transported to a restaurant you would typically find in France. Gorgeous décor, dim lighting and live music all set the mood for a romantic and intimate evening with my wife. We started off by ordering the Shrimp Cassolette as an appetizer per a recommendation from our wonderful server Asta, and it was a great choice. The Shrimp comes in a small pan covered in Cognac and mustard sauce which brings the shrimp to life and adds tremendous flavor. I would highly recommend this, especially if you dip the complimentary French bread at the table into the sauce after you’ve eaten the Shrimp. So good! We then shared a plate of the«Coq Au Vin» which is a Red Wine Braised Hen Leg and Thigh served with Pearl Onions and Bacon. The meat on the Hen was so soft and tender and fell right off of the bone. Order this and thank me after. We capped a fantastic evening with their decadent Souffles for dessert. I ordered their famous Chocolate Soufflé which takes about 20 – 30 minutes to prepare, so if you don’t want to wait for it, order it with your dinner. We ordered it after we finished our dinner and did not mind the wait. Let me just say this about the Chocolate Soufflé: I forgot about everything else as I was eating the Soufflé, even my wife who was right next to me. It was out of this world. My wife ordered the Grand Marnier Soufflé which was also very good but in my opinion was a notch or two or three below the Chocolate. Price is not what you would expect to find in Newport Beach where most restaurants charge an exorbitant amount. The appetizer was 13, dinner was 27 and dessert was 9 dollars for each soufflé. Add in a couple drinks and the total with tax and tip came out to around 100 dollars. Again, this is for quality French food that is hard to find around here. If you are hesitant because of the prices, try the happy hour M-F from 4 – 7. Definitely will come back for that. In summary, Brasserie Pascal is a wonderful place to bring a date or your spouse for not only a succulent meal, but an incredible night out that makes you forget you are in Newport Beach. Thank you Chef Pascal!

Came here during restaurant week to try it out because they posted up such an enticing menu! we decided to celebrate Valentines day here as well and i thought it was really cute that they gave the women long stemmed red roses for free and they had live entertainment as well. Atmosphere: — Dim & Romantic — Spacey dining area — Comfortable and intimate seating Service: — Server was friendly and helpful — It was hard to wave them down when you need them Food: We ordered from their valentine’s day pre fix menu and although it sounded amazing, the food wasn’t as impressive as i thought. We tried their: 1) Heart shaped polenta w/mushroom duxelle: This dish was tiny! although the mushroom duxelle was good, the polenta was dry and the dish came out luke warm. 2) Crab & Artichoke Soup: This was the worst soup i’ve ever tasted, the crab didn’t taste fresh and it left an unpleasant after taste on my palate. 3) Scallop w/Risotto & Truffle Butter: The scallop was perfectly cooked and the risotto was hot and creamy! This was my favorite! 4) Filet Mignon W/Asparagus & Mashed Potatoes: The filet was cooked well, the after taste was the worst because it made it taste burnt, maybe too much reduction in the red wine sauce? The asparagus and mashed potatoes were ok, nothing special. 5) Dessert: We got one chocolate covered strawberrie, a mini crème brûlée, 2 marshmallow hearts, tiny cheesecake, 2 tiny chocolate cakes. This was not an impressive dessert platter as it looked like everything was randomly placed on the plate. Overall, this meal was not worth the amount that we paid for it, i could’ve spent less and got a great meal from Ruth Chris’s Steakhouse OR spent the same amount on Mastro’s steakhouse for a more satisfying meal.

A friend who’s a regular here recommended this place so this is where we had dinner last night. The place was packed, as I guess it would be on a Saturday night, but we managed to get a table nonetheless. Very nice, established looking restaurant with what looked like mostly the older and wealthier crowd of regulars… ok, I guess this is Newport Beach after all so what do I expect eh? :) I started off with the vegetable soup and my friend had the onion soup. I guess it was ok for what it was… pretty simple and good. There seemed to be lots of seafood choices on the menu, but I was already all fish’d out so decided to try a «new» dish on the menu; the Poulet Aux Olives. My friend tried her usual Seafood Bouillabaisse. All I can say is, DELICIOUS! The chicken was tender and cooked just right, and the potatoes gratin… yummy. The portions were just right, but be careful not to fill up on the bread… which was really yummy too! As much as I wanted to avoid dessert, my friend insisted on sharing the Crème Brulee. It was good… a bit sweet for my taste, but still good. This is definitely a good place for a very good meal. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and made sure our food got out quickly. No complaints at all, especially given how packed this place was. Definitely a good place to come with friends, but perhaps a bit noisy for a romantic date. A definite place to come back to again.

We’ve been here a couple of times in the last few months, and each time the food and service has been wonderful! I think we’ve found our favorite place for a nice, relaxing lunch . We started with the bread and the best garlic herb dipping sauce we’ve ever had . We also split a delicious Caesar salad . For our main meal, my husband ordered the Bouillabaisse and raved about how good it was . The seafood was plentiful, and the sauce was rich and delicious. I ordered the Chicken and Mushroom Crepes . The crepes were filled with tender chicken, mushrooms, and a heavenly crème sauce. The service was great here as well. Nadirah was our waitress, and she was friendly and helpful. The owner also stopped by our table to see how our meals were. We were really impressed by the wait staff’s efficiency and helpfulness. We also liked the vintage feel of the restaurant with its dark wood furniture. I also thought the little Christmas tree they had up was really cute! We were so impressed with the incredible food and the staff’s amazing service. This is a restaurant we’re definitely coming back to.

Our waiter started our lunch off with warm french bread and an olive tapenade. The brie cheese appetizer we tried from the Perfect 10 menu was delectable. The melted slices of cheese topped with apple chutney and served with walnut toast was quickly devoured. It would have been nice if a little more walnut toast was provided, but we used the french bread when we ran out. That turned out fine. Salad frisee with chopped tomatoes and a nice dressing accompanied the appetizer. I chose the pan seared salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The mashed potatoes were buttery goodness and I liked the salmon, carrots and broccoli. I had iced tea and water with my lunch and they were refilled throughout my meal. The wrong dish came to my husband and they apologized. It did not take too long for them to produce his order. As mentioned in other reviews, the restaurant has a nice ambiance. The booths and seats are comfortable, too. The french music they play in the background is pleasant. They have a lot of good options for lunch and for the most part, you are served quickly. This Fashion Island restaurant provides an enjoyable eating experience.

Surprisingly affordable, all things considered. You don’t get too many places that advertise themselves as French cuisine and charge the prices like that of here. Especially when you consider that this is in Fashion Island in Newport Beach. And this is not a shabby restaurant, the interior décor is pretty well-detailed. It’s also nice that it’s casual, you won’t be too out of place here dressed with a t-shirt and sandals walking in. They’ve got a 3-course special for $ 20, with your choice of entrée, soup or salad, and a crappy dessert. I think the Perfect 10 specials are better. Make sure you take a peek that at menu, I’m not sure if those were posted online. Filet mignon was good, but certainly not the greatest, although for $ 10 I will not argue a bit. For starters, I’d recommend the bone marrow(very greasy) and mussels sauvignon-blanc. Bread was also surprisingly good. Make sure you check in on your Unilocal app! Free glass of champagne when you show your server.

I really wanted this place to be 5 stars, but was disappointed. My Elite friends Aarron(woohoo) & Jen(hoowoo) was part of the experience. Their company was 100 stars, but this place is only 3! Got the set foie gras set menu. Let me start with the pros: 1. Live Music on Friday night. 2. Free glass of champagne when check-in with Unilocal. 3. Tasty food, reasonable price 4. Classic French environment, but VERYCASUAL, so it’s nice and relaxing 5. Lots of parking(except right now there’s constructions) Things I think could make them FIVE stars: 1. Appetizer: escargot, NEEDSOMESERIOUSESEASONING! 2. Starter: HORRIBLE got the pâté, looks VERYBORING(puke color) &BORINGTASTING 3. Entry(foie gras with steak), good pairing, and perfect seasoning, but, seriously, the sides are just SAD =( 4. Service: ANDFORGOT our dessert! 5. Dessert, BLAH! Suppose to be best part of the meal! Hope they improve next time I come back… if I do…

The mussels were delish and it wasn’t even what I ordered! Ive been to one other Pascal spot that I had a disastrous experience and so I was looking forward to seeing how different this place would be. From the moment I walked in I immediately knew this would be a much better experience. I felt like I stepped into a french café. Dark wood, booths and warm colors. Really like the ambiance here. They have some delicious items on the menu including a very nice $ 10 lunch menu. Well I opted to order from the regular menu and got their french onion soup and shrimp louie. French Onion soup ~ I luv onions and I luv soup and I luv cheese so yeah I really liked this soup. I personally would have liked more onion but the flavor was amazing. I could have eaten another of these. Shrimp Louie ~ Them shrimps were humungous! The lettuce was lightly grilled topped with huge shrimp, avocado, tomato and drizzled in dressing. It had a bit more dressing then I care to have but the salad was tasty. Come on with shrimps this big how can you not. I really like that char on the lettuce. Ive had bad mussels in the past and so I have not ordered any in over a decade. I also used to throw rocks at these barnacles near the sea wall where I used to live thus I never thought to enjoy them. Well I have to eat my word cuz the mussles here were amazing and would definitely order them. I had a wonderful lunch with awesome Unilocalsters Kelley U, Cathy S, Tami D and Marko M all the way from Lala land and bringing us beautiful flowers! Great conversation, great food, great time! Eyes ~ Really like the décor herel! Nose ~ Smells like its gonna be a good lunch! Ear ~ like that is not overly loud. Mouth ~ Mmm everything I had was good! Tummy ~ Why didn’t you give me any more mussels!!!

I *love* French food! French food *loves* me! Brasserie Pascal is touted as one of Fashion Island’s signature restaurants. You walk into the restaurant and you are greeted by a very vintage looking French décor, complete with dark wood furniture and heavy dark floral print carpet. Easily you get put in the mood to eat French food. While there for lunch, I decided to get two appetizers for my main meal. The first appetizer was the Sautéed Duck Foie Gras with Sauce au «Raisin» and Muscat($ 18). The dish was one slice of foie gras that was prepared in a very sweet, yet tart sauce. The foie gras was cooked to perfection — seared on the outside and tender pink on the inside. It was prepared a bit different than I had anticipated(wasn’t expecting a sour tart bite to it), but it was nice to try a different(yet nice) preparation of the dish. It was served with a LOT of sauce and three white toast wo soak up the juices. Nice. Grade: A– For my second appetizer, I had the Assiette de Charcuterie. This was a plate of Homemade Pâté, Saucisson, Salami, and Smoked Duck($ 11), served with a cup of butter lettuce filled with pickled veggies — mini pickles, carrots, celery, mushrooms, cauliflower, etc. A dollup of mustard was provided on the plate. Generally, I would say that this dish was okay. The homemade pâté and the sausiccon was nice, but nothing unique and memorable. The salami was yummy but nothing extrodinary. The best thing on the dish was the smoked duck(albiet the color of the meat looked bland and uninteresting). Grade: B. I was able to take a bite of Lica’s Shrimp Louie Salad! It was two ¼ romaine lettuce grilled(YUM) and served with about 6 – 10 honking big pieces of shrimp and salad dressing. Loved the fact that they grilled the lettuce to give it an extra dimension of texture and aroma. Grade: B+ Tip #1: Do a Unilocal checkin, and receive a complimentary glass of champagne. Tip #2: They have a GREAT $ 10 lunch menu, which includes fillet mignon, or chicken, or fish. Really a good value for the money, and smaller portions for you peeps who don’t want to go back to work and fall asleep because you ate too much during lunch. Service was pretty good — the busboys worked very hard and the waitresses looked very professional and were nice. Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: B /B+ Worth the Money Grade: B+ Overall Impression Grade: B+ Thanks Kelley for coordinating the lunch. Thanks Cathy S. for letting me crash your party! You Unilocaler-Extraordinaire ladies — Kelley, Lica, Cathy S., and Tami — are the best! What a treat to be able to see new friends(Lica and Cathy) and FINALLY meet Kelley and Tami in person for the first time!

On a cooler, windy day in Newport Beach, the brasserie was inviting with it’s décor. It’s got an old-European fancy pub-esque ambiance but not too stuffy. Service wasn’t quite as warm but it wasn’t too bad. The food… well, it was mixed. I went for the 3-course meal, starting with a charcuterie plate. The pork country pâté was rather tasteless and unimpressive. There were enough picked vegetables and cornichon. The coq au vin was pretty good, however. The chicken leg was large enough and had a good wine marinade. It fell of the bone pretty easily. The buttered noodles the coq au vin came with was a good accompaniment. The side of vegetables was non-descript. I liked the dessert a lot, however. The ile flottante(floating island) consisted of a semi-soft meringue. I hate a meringue that needs a jackhammer to to cut open. The vanilla custard was smooth and tasty. So the meal ended well. For the area, the prices are pretty decent and getting something like the 3-course meal has value. 3.5 stars.

Fancy French food at more than reasonable prices, what more could you ask for in Newport Beach? This place is cutely decorated with French flair. The bar seating area takes up about a third of the restaurant which is great because their happy hour is amazing. My friend and I came for dinner/happy hour. We were seated quickly and it wasn’t long before someone brought us warm fresh bread. I settled on the Flirtini as my drink, which is almost like a cosmo. Fruity, not too sweet and light for being a martini. They have martinis, champagne cocktails, wine, and well drinks too, all for $ 5 each. We kept seeing people order this eye-catching mountain of food and discovered it was the Pascal Patchwork. One of the best appetizer sampler plates I’ve ever had! Mini grilled cheese sandwiches, mini slices of pizza, homemade pâté, onion rings, mini beef sliders, and french fries all for only $ 10! Everything was good except for the pâté which was underwhelming and the onion rings were greasy. We also got the filet mignon on the Perfect $ 10 menu. It was really good the first time I had it, but I thought maybe it was the mojito I drank beforehand that made it so memorably delicious. Nope! Just as mouth-watering and tender the second time. I would pay twice as much for this steak, but shh don’t tell them that. It comes with a side of okay steamed veggies and yummy au gratin potatoes. Decent sized portion for the price. The service was excellent too. Our waitress was down-to-earth and helpful. Always checking up on us and offering to get us different drinks if we didn’t like them. The manager even came by to say hello. He also informed us in his(French?) accent that the menu items were going to change soon. Yay, an excuse to come back again soon!

I came back recently during OC Restaurant Week but opted for another pre-fixe menu instead. It’s their regular 3-course pre-fixe menu for only $ 18 called Menu Du Jour (it’s fun to say all the french names aloud at the table with a fakey french accent yea?) You get to choose from the following appetizers: –Soupe de Jour(Soup of the Day) –French Onion Soup –Plate of Pates –Salad Verte The following entrees: –Steak Au Poivre(Filet Mignon) –Poisson du Jour(Fish of the Day) –Poulet Cordon Bleu –Chef Special of the Day And the following desserts: –ile Flottante(meringue floating on sweet sauce) –Mousse au Chocolat –Crème Caramel(Flan on caramel sauce) Our table of 5 all got this pre-fixe menu. I got the French Onion Soup, Filet Mignon, and the Chocolate Mousse. YUM. For appetizers, the rest of the table got Pâté and Soup of the Day. The pâté taste was off to me, or maybe I’m not cultured to the french style of pâté and the super sour pickles it came with. Soup of the Day was Cream of Broccoli with a dash of pesto on top. This soup was ok, nothing too special to me as my French Onion Soup looked and tasted much more impressive. Majority of the table got Filet Mignon and it came with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The tender meat was spot on and delicious! Well worth it for the steal $ 18 price. The Chocolate Mousse was dark chocolate and it had a bittersweet smoothness to it which I liked. I tasted the Crème Caramel and it was muuuch too sweet. ***The food was awesome but I docked a star because my bf found a hair in his steamed vegetables. A medium length of blond hair.(We’re asians) And our waiter was male and didn’t have long hair. My bf showed the hair to the waiter and he said that he was terribly embarrassed and offered to bring more steamed veggies to replace but my bf said no as he was getting full. I was hoping that we’d either get an additional dessert or some credit to the bill for that hair strand but that was it. Ah well. :P ****
