Fuji Yama

Dropped by here with the fam, and the food came out at different times, and it wasn’t very good. The food is very Americanized, and is not what you would receive from a real Japanese restaurant in Fountain Valley or Costa Mesa. In addition, the lady argued w/​us about what we ordered.
We have a summer home nearby, and we will definitely be avoiding this place in the future. We don’t want bad Americanized Japanese food and $hitty service!

I have never written a Unilocal review but this place has to be talked about. I ordered sushi to go and when I got my rolls there was HAIR all inside one of the rolls. At this point I clearly lost my appetite and couldn’t even imagine eating anything else from that restaurant. I understand a hair and it being a mistake, but multiple hairs!!! Not okay. I then called them to let them know about what happened and that I wanted a refund and their response was only if you get back in your car and show us the roll with hair can we credit you! Are you kidding me?! I already picked up the food and now you want me to get back in my car waste more of my time and money to show you how disgusting your restaurant is?! Honestly I’m disgusted and would never ever eat here ever again. I would suggest going anywhere else except here. There are plenty of other quality sushi places close by (Sushi 930 is right down the street and The Cannery) (Even Jack in the box)

Wow service sucked dirty tables everywhere food delivered waiting for something to eat with BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

This place is awesome! I’ve been going for about 2 years and it never disappoints. They always have new specials. The fish is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. Fuji has a great mellow vibe, which I like.

We had TERRIBLE service at this restaurant. It took 75 minutes to get my father-in-law’s salmon and avocado roll despite assurances that our waitress had «just seen it being made.» I don’t know if there were too many takeout orders in front of ours but the waitress showed no initiative in checking up on our order. She did, however, have plenty of time to do two shots of sake with the table next to us. The fish was fresh, the portions small, the prices high and the waitressing about the worst I’ve ever experienced.

Great fresh food beautifully prepared. Lots of vegan options and great service. The cucumber salad is beautifully prepared with paper thin slices of cucumber, a sweet rice wine vinegar dressing and toasted sesame seeds. So simple and delicious.

Very disappointing :(. Service was okay, two of the waitresses were very on par while one other didn’t know the service with a smile concept. More importantly the food was mediocre! Albacore and salmon sushi temperatures were not as cold as we liked, yellowtail sushi was paper thin and the unagi aka fresh water eel sushi was cold and chewy not hot and crispy as it should be. We also tried three dishes under their «favorites» section on the menu and it boggles me how these could be favorites. The albacore with crispy onion (as mentioned, not cold enough), hot stone shrimp fried rice was basically fried rice bibimbap with tiny bay shrimps (meh) and the shrimp w/​cream sauce was not the bomb as other Unilocalers claim. As for their rolls, they were very small in diameter. Not worth the hype and definitely not worth the price.

So I’m used to eating omakase and i came in and asked if they had it, waitress went and told the sushi chef, so i Amex for their best dishes and every thing was super good…

I was so impressed with this place. I came last week and everything I ate was amazing. It’s not just sushi.
It’s wow sushi !! FIsh is melting in your mouth.

Just discovered sushi while in Vegas, and now I am hooked. 68 years of deprivation of some of the best food on the planet is enuff! Have become completely enamored of this gem of a restaurant and can not praise the food, staff, and ambience enough. I love this place and everything about it, anyone who has a problem with this establishment probably has problems with breath, can not handle their sake, or is simply moronic!

I eat here at least once a month. If I’m craving sushi a short distance from home this is a great spot to hit.
Normally I’m hitting the Buddhist roll but pretty much any sushi roll here will hit the spot. I’ve rarely seen it super packed so it has a good casual feel and normally the rolls come out pretty quickly.
Definitely worth a try.

Where is my 50% discount for eating sushi in the restaurant??? Yeah, I guess it has been that long since I’ve been here. With that disappointing discovery, I ordered some food.
masago sushi — decent
shrimp boat — super good. I had forgotten how good these things are. Ingredients are fresh and the different eggs bursting with flavor in your mouth. yum!
avocado roll — good custom made roll for the kid. If avocados were $ 5 each, then the price is justified.
beef teriyaki /​tempura dinner — $ 20?!! Sadly, it wasn’t as good as I remembered. Presentation is nice but the quality of the beef wasn’t the same. :(Do yourself a favor and order from the fast food version of this shop.

On this night they were out of high chairs so the 1 year old had to manage in a booster seat. Now, if anyone noticed that we had to cling onto the squirming baby so he wouldn’t slide down under the table maybe they would have offered the high chair that the table next to us had finished using. Nope, I had to ask for it myself. [sigh]

Since the restaurant next door was closed for «plumbing issues,» I grabbed dinner here the other night with a co-​worker. And I absolutely loved the good and service.
Price range for wraps, rolls, and sashimis are $ 4.95−5.95 in fair portions. We ordered cold sake and it was great in flavor — also not very strong. More so, the servers were very attentive and consistently refilled our sake and water cups.

Horrible food. Absolutely horrible. I only went there because my other favorite sushi place right down the street was closed and was so disappointed. Expensive and really poor service. Go to the other local sushi places. Don’t waste your time.
Only reason for two stars is because of the 20 things I got the albacore sushi was decent.

It really wasn’t anything worth writing home about. Had a variety of rolls and apps but they were just okay. Won’t be back. Would rather try and fail at a new place.

This place is awesome!
I need to go back with somebody who really knows the menu.
My first time going in I sat at the sushi bar and ordered my usual sushi favorites that were all fresh and delicious.
It’s what I saw other customers ordering that will have me coming back a second time and becoming a regular. One thing that really stuck out to me was this hot rock rice dish that the people next to me were sharing it smelled delicious and seemed like the perfect starter to share on a date night.
Fuji Yama I will be back and I might have to bump this review up to a five star.

Today I decided to switch it up from my normal lunch routine and check out Fuji Yama. My coworkers periodically order from them and I always hear great things.
I ordered the Combination Special from the lunch menu which is only available Monday-​Friday (11:30AM-2:00PM) and Saturday-​Sunday (12:00PM-2PM).
The Combination Special includes: miso soup, salad, California Roll 2p, rice, and either 2 items ($ 9.95) or 3 items ($ 11.95) from the list below:
1. Master Chicken Teriyaki
2. Spicy Chicken
3. Tokyo Angus Steak
4. Korean Rib Steak
5. Grilled Salmon
6. Tempura (2p Shrimp & 3p Veggie)
7. Crunch Roll (4p)
8. Sashimi (2p Tuna, 2p Salmon)
I selected 2 items: Master Chicken Teriyaki and Sashimi.
First off, my lunch did not come with the two pieces of California Roll. Granted I’m not a big California Roll fan, but if you are make sure to double check your order.
Miso Soup: Typical miso soup, nothing special. The soup did have a taste of MSG.
Rice: I substituted white rice for brown rice for an additional $ 1. The brown rice was mushy where too much water was used when preparing the rice.
Master Chicken Teriyaki: Nothing special here as well, just your typical white chicken with teriyaki sauce. Some of the pieces were overcooked where after biting into the piece of chicken your mouth is left with a charred tasted. Unfortunately a good portion of the chicken pieces tasted like this. It also comes with some pieces of broccoli, cabbage, and bell peppers.
Sashimi: MMMmmm delicious! The cuts of fish were decent sized and the tuna and salmon tasted fresh. Considering I had my meal to go, the presentation of the sashimi to go was very nice.
If you are placing your order to go, place your order ahead of time over the phone. This way it saves you time from having to wait. My order was ready within 20 minutes.
Overall I would check out Fuji Yama again only for their sashimi. The lunch combo definitely leaves you feeling full, but the taste of it wasn’t satisfying.
