I absolutely love coming to Vancostas. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or anytime! I have been coming here for the past 15 years and will continue to do so. Personal favorites are the pizza, meatball sub, antipasto salad, and the spaghetti. The staff is super friendly and always very helpful. The prices are fantastic and you can feed your family for half of what it would cost you anywhere else! Even coming by for a beer is wallet friendly experience even though the selection is a little restricted. I highly recommend Vancosts to anyone passing by and have taken many of my friends who all enjoy the time they spend there.

I give this a one star just for the incredible service. The food is horrific, unless you like super salty microwave food. You’d honestly be better off going to the store and buying a frozen meal and heating it yourself. The chicken parmigiana was cold and I’m not even sure if it was fully cooked as it was slimy. The gyro wasn’t any better, both were inedible. I’m not sure what anyone has eaten here that was so wonderful, but we won’t be coming back.

It’s been almost a year– time to re-review Vancostas! I’m happy to say they’re still doing the time warp with outdated though comfortable enough interiors, really low prices and good food still made in-house. The only thing I noticed that had changed was that the spaghetti with tomato sauce plate was bigger than I remembered and had a great flavor! This thing was bigger than my head and cost less than five bucks. Vancostas is still king when it comes to cheap good food in a basic, old-fashioned style.

If you like frozen then reheated food(think microwave) then this is your place. It seems to always have a big crowd, I have yet to figure out why. The food is terrible. Will never return.

While the customer service here was pretty good and the atmosphere was decent, the food was very bland. Their pizza tasted like undercooked generic frozen pizza. It doesn’t help that all four major chains, Dino’s, and Luigi’s which are all phenomenal are very close but really not impressed.

One reviewer stated they had not been there in 30 years and it brought back memories. I think Vancostas is old and needs serious updating. I order a fish dinner and it was awful. Right away you could tell it was some frozen breaded mess that was tasteless and should have never been served.

I was going to upload a picture of my pancakes. I remember them arriving at the table, and then after that I blanked and they were just gone. I’m very happy and satisfied, and my plate is empty, save for traces of syrup and bacon crumbles. So I can only assume they were magnificently fluffy pancakes and very crispy bacon. We plan to come again to see if we can replicate the experience and collect more data.

Good prices, good coffee, but that’s about it. For the Italian and Greek stuff, you’re better off going to either of the Soprano joints on Warwick. For the other typical diner items, just go to Belgian Waffle & Steak House.

Food was fantastic and you cannot beat the price. I had a gyro and my husband had the vegetable lasagna; both were exceptional and under $ 6. Our server wasn’t very friendly but she brought us everything we needed in a timely fashion. Will definitely go back.

Went here for breakfast on a Saturday. Most of the patrons of the restaurant are older people. We had fa hearty breakfast with fluffy pancakes and french toast, crunchy hash browns, delicious omelette for a cheap price. Service was great as well, they were friendly and quick. Nothing but good praises for this place. Will come back to try their dinner menu.

Easily the best value I’ve had at a restaurant in a long, long time. I hadn’t been there in ~30 years, since high school, and the place is like a time machine; it hasn’t changed at all, including the prices. The ambiance is breakfast diner; very spartan. The food was all really good, and again, the prices were so cheap. Everything we had was good: the veal parmigiana, focaccia appetizer, gyros, and pizza. The pizza is NY style with a super-thin crust; not at all like the mass-produced, boring pie you get from the big pizza chains. Great find. Can’t wait to go back next time I’m in town.

Mediterranean cuisine… We are visiting from Atlanta and called in for take out pizza… really good and very reasonably priced… less than $ 20 for X-large… plenty for 4 people. I’m coming back for a meal in the house. I found the place to be friendly, competent… we enjoyed the food.

Food was ok. I liked my greek salad and pizza. Wasn’t the best I’d ever had but it was good. The pizza was very good. Dough was fresh and quite tasty. The rest of our party tried the specials and weren’t impressed. My husband is a gyro lover and this one fell flat. Recommend trying the pizza and skipping the rest!

Diner, diner, diner! This was my spot when I lived in Newport News. The staff was very personable, the food was hot and it was rather inexpensive. This wasn’t highest quality food, but it’s light-years ahead of the surrounding dining establishments(not the décor though, because it’s rather behind the times). Vancostas would be a very popular place in a bigger city, but it’s stuck in the middle of the strip-mall hell that is Warwick Blvd. It had a jukebox, vinyl seats, quarter candy machines at the door and open faced roast beef sandwiches. I preferred to get the gyro because they put pepperoncini peppers on it. That was killer. I think they had an all you can eat pizza deal on Monday’s, but I would call before showing up, just to make sure.
