Local sit down Mexican diner with decent service and food. Plate combinations are nothing special but the tacos are pretty good. The steak tacos are too chewy and the meat chopped too small for my taste. Personally the al pastor tacos are the best, very nicely seasoned and marinated. The chicken tacos are good as well. Tacos are traditionally served(smaller tacos): order 2 – 3 per person. Table comes with complimentary chips and salsa. Diner offers imported and domestic beer options Dinner plate includes beans, 3 tacos and rice for $ 11.

The Special Style entailed sour cream, avocado, and cheese placed atop of 2 warm flour tortillas and chopped steak. Three of those tacos and sides of beans, salad, and rice made up the affordable Taco Dinner for only $ 7.99. The contrast of creamy cheese, heaping amounts of sour cream, and crispy steak made for a party in my mouth. If you’re not the biggest fan of avocado, I’d request to take it off or skip this deal. They probably put half of a whole avocado on two small tacos. The taste starts off as a delicacy but becomes overwhelming as you near the end of the meal. If I were to come back again, I would order one or two different styles of tacos, possibly prepared a different way. The cool thing about the dinner is that you can not only choose the type of meat, but switch up the toppings and manner in which it’s prepared. The beans, salad, and rice tie it all together. The refried beans with cheese took another win in the creamy column and the rice was perfect, having just the right taste of authentic mexican orange rice! Grab a horchata, cinnamon rice milk, it won’t be the same unless you savor each bite and follow it with this blessing. My whole meal without tax ended up being $ 11.34, which was definitely worth it. Hypothetically, I would pay double the price of my meal just to enjoy it again if I had to. It’s rated an UNDESERVING3.5 stars. Of course some things need to be worked on, like the speed of the waiters and wait time for the food, I agree. But every place has some type of flaw, and the best part about this is that it wasn’t even the food, but things that can be fixed by an easy correctional conversation. Come, feast, and enjoy the food with a friend for less than 25 dollars! I give this venue 4 stars at least; it’s worth your money and your time, you won’t regret it.

GREAT fish tacos! And tacos in general. The big problem I had was the service! I ordered 4 tacos, just simple tacos, and I think I waited almost 20 – 30 minutes for them. The waitress put in the order when it wasn’t busy at all. I noticed that they were focusing on their to-go orders and stopped worrying about the people at the restaurant. I had to ask the waitress twice about my food, she told me «one second.» The food was great, but unfortunately the customer service was lacking. Their priorities don’t seem straight at this place, they run around super frantic and can’t keep track of who has ordered and who hasn’t. I really don’t think I will go back here unless I’m in the area. Sorry Los Comales, the wait time was just too ridiculous!

The waitstaff and gentleman who was busing the tables were all so kind and attentive and I enjoyed my chicken burrito so I really feel this place deserves 4 stars. The few reasons I couldn’t give the 5th star is because I was very confused when I walked in(on Cinco de Mayo). There was a line of about 6 people at the register so I naturally understood that I would need to pay there before my departure. I was very confused on if I should seat myself or if there would be someone showing me to a table — after asking a fellow patron I seated myself. A container of pickled jalapenos, cauliflower and carrots was on my table but I’m not sure when the vinegar solution was last changed — you’ll have to judge for yourself. The gentleman clearing tables immediately brought me a basket of chips and salsa, a menu and asked if I’d like anything to drink. The salsa was spicy and did not have much flavor and the chips tasted like they were from a bag. I ordered the grilled chicken burrito(and would come back for it). The other thing that nobody told me until I asked one of the waitresses was that when I was finished I just had to walk up to the cashier and tell him my table number to pay. I did not receive a bill at the table. They also have a box of Mexican candies/treats at the register that are $ 1 each and I picked up an orange coconut that was soft and sweet. The prices were reasonable and I will be back to try some additional options on the menu and other candies.

Not a fan! Menu is small which is ok but everything is overpriced BIG time. The few times I have gone the server always forgets something and dont expect to have the food come out all at once. Not to mention everything only tastes like grease, which I don’t like!

Not sure what happened but quality of chicken fajitas here went downhill. The chicken is rubbery and thin as hell, overcooked and barely put any in order for a plate costing over $ 15. They must have changed cooks or food suppliers because I have been eating the chicken fajitas here for years and they were very good and much better quality chicken or cooked better and more in the order. Ah well going to try in few months to see if changes for better, if not I am done spending $ 15 on a plate that is now not very good and mostly just peppers with some rubbery chicken.

The experience that I had was awful the waiter or waitress took a very long time as in 15min to ask for drinks. I thought that the wait would be worth it but as you can expect from this review it, it was not. I had ordered tacos first the pastor, nasty almost, no scratch that completely inedible the tacos felt more as a cream of pastor rather than a taco, second the bisté was bland, no flavor no happiness although there was a silver lining with my sons fish which had been perfectly fried and had a nice crisp while staying juicy and with some salt lemon and hot sauce was amazing

Being new to the area, I am always looking for good Mexican cuisine. This place will not let you down. Good price, good quality, good appetizers, etc. The steak I had was well seasoned as well as the chicken, pork, and fish. Decent guac. No complaints

Okay so I have to say I still swear by their damn tacos but take this ish to go! Their service BEYOND blows when you attempt to eat there. The last time we sat down to eat we literally did not get waited on for over half an hour and the waitress never came back to check on us and we waited forever to get our check. They are so rude and drag serious ass.

Here are the positives: chips and salsa are good, typical. It is a bustling place with low prices. The rest I was not so keen on. I ordered a chicken burrito which was large but had no character. My partner ordered the flank steak tacos which came with crisped small squares of meat and was hardly edible. It took a long time to get my burrito when they were moderately busy. It took a longer time for 4 small tacos to arrive. Their menu offers about half the normal Mexican restaurant choices. The large dining area reminds me of a very strongly lit basement with some tv screens hanging on the wall. The place is clean and everyone seems to be hardworking and earnest, but it’s just not enjoyable.

I just don’t have enough words to explain how much I love this place. First of all, when you walk in and sit down, you’re greeted by a container of thee most delicious pickled veggies you’ve ever had in your entire life. And then, just after you’re done stuffing your face, your waiter comes over and brings you chips and salsa. Amazing. Ah-maze-ing. All for FREE, by the way. While you’re waiting for your actual food to arrive. Incredible stuff. And where most places charge for lime slices, this place has it at the table for you already waiting there, and there’s almost always around 20(TWENTY!!!) slices in that container. Again. I have no words. The food, if you actually get around to eating it after the feast you just had with all the free goodies, is delicious! The perfect consistency of all the ingredients coming together for the most perfect tacos to bless your taste buds. Enjoy, people!

A secret find in the burbs… I have lived in Morton grove for most of my life and have not tried this place. A very underrated joint with authentic Mexican food. Speaking Spanish will give you credibility but not a must :) Try this place out, worth the risk.

This is my go to for quick, tasty and inexpensive Mexican food. I LOVE Mexican food and this place fills my desire. The tacos are great, as are they numerous other dishes. I can eat the(complimentary) pickled carrots by the handful. The carrots also have pickled cauliflower and jalapeños, but I love the carrots. They also provide evey table with chips, salsa and limes. Great spot for a quick, casual inexpensive meal.

I work from home, and I love working from this restaurant. I get my booth in the back with the outlet next to it, pull out my PC and work phone, order the same thing every single time — three tacos: steak, pork, and chicken. The chips and salsa are free and the salsa is excellent. The meal is 8 bucks before tip. They open at 8am and serve breakfast if you fancy it, but I get there at 10 sometimes if a client cancels a visit and I still order the tacos. I can’t get enough of them. It’s simple, each served with two corn tortillas, onion, and cilantro. I always ask for chihuahua cheese on the side. Can’t help the cheese freak in me. You can hear the food cooking, the sizzling of marinated meat, Spanish language songs playing along with English pop and dance, and the staff speak mostly Spanish to you, not English. They have a new specials menu boasting what I believe is translated to be shrimp and fish tacos… I am swooning. Taqueria Los Comales is easily in my top five favorite restaurants.

A Tale of Two Types of Tacos I was hesitant to order takeout tacos from a sit-down Mexican restaurant. I prefer a hole-in-the-wall taqueria, but they don’t seem to exist out here. And it seemed to be run by real Mexicans, so I gave it a shot. Long story short, I really liked half the tacos and hated the other half. The fish and shrimp tacos were tits. Really, really good. I ate those first and got really pumped that this joint was going to be my local(in suburban terms that is – still a ten-minute drive) go-to taco place. But then I ate the other two tacos, steak and pastor. To say that those tacos lacked flavor would be like saying that Spud Webb lacked height. However, at least Spud Webb had major ups, while the tacos just lay there on my plate in feeble mediocrity. Only after eating the second one could I tell which was which, but just barely. The green salsa helped only a little bit and the red not at all. Clank! So, thumbs up for seafood tacos and thumbs down for meat tacos. However, I will applaud them on two other points: price and fixings. The non-seafood tacos are all $ 1.75, which is a nice bargain for the budget luncher. And my takeout order came with the aforementioned salsas plus a little packet of lime wedges and some pickled vegetables. I ate the pickles with my tacos and put those limes to good use later in some gin. All in all, my first visit to Taqueria Los Comales was not a total loss, but the lameness of those second two tacos made me really regret moving to the suburbs. However, I’m sure that I will come back and try them again.

I’ve lived near this restaurant for almost 22 years. I had tried it until a few months ago and I have to say it’s not half bad. It is rarely ever super busy so getting a table is fairly easy. The complimentary chips, salsa, and vegetables are good. I do have to point out that these chips taste exactly like the«El Milagros» chips from your local grocery store. I’ve eaten the steak & chicken tacos, which are great. 9⁄10. They are simple but the meat is seasoned and cook well. The only reason I didn’t give it a 10⁄10 is because they are small. The shredded chicken burrito is decent, although I feel like I’ve had better burritos in my lifetime. The meat taste somewhat bland however a little salsa verde fixes that problem. This restaurant overall gives you a bang for your buck. I would recommend it for a quick lunch or dinner. Not the best Mexican food I’ve had but definitely not the worst!

If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant, you can’t get more authentic than Los Comales! They’re tacos and tortas are to die for. They use top notch steak and fish for their dishes. I always get their fish tacos. Deeeeelish! The only gripe, which really isn’t much of a gripe, is that their parking is always full since this place is always busy. Definitely hands down one of my favorite Mexican restaurants EVER!
