Under new management and very disappointing. The menu, which was full of items has been etched down into one leaflet. They no longer have have the real steak meat, but that steak um frozen meat. They prices have significantly jumped. A steak combo with drink went from $ 10 to about $ 15 for one person.

I’m now left with the unsavory(pun intended) task of removing this place from my «go to» list. It’s been a little over a month since my last visit and since I was right next door cashing a check I figured I’d pop on in. First thing I noticed was that all the Mexican food was taken off the menu, then I realize it was a whole new menu. I look around and notice a few subtle changes and some new faces behind the counter. A few questions and a pleasant conversation later I was able to pick up on that the place was under new ownership. So I ask the question and sure enough, new owners. Turns out the lady I was speaking to was the new owner. She was super polite and seemed genuinely proud of her new restaurant. I asked if they still use the same recipes and I was assured everything was still the same, nope. …more on that later. So not seeing my usual #21 «real steak and cheese» with marinated sirloin tips I ordered a simple steak and cheese(Philly cheese steak on the menu). And here is where it all went south. I have previously reviewed this restaurant and highlighted the fact that they used marinated shaved sirloin for their steak and cheeses and that it was a nice change from all the«steak-um» type generally found all over this area. So you can imagine my disappointment when I saw them load 2 frozen stacks of thin sheets of steak, i.e. «steak-ums», on the grill. I just sat down thinking I just wasted my money. Glimmer of good news here is that they still have the iced tea/lemonade mix that I love, so I enjoyed that while I waited. Upon receiving my meal I noticed it looked pretty much the same as I was used to. Started on the grill but finished in the oven, bread lightly toasted. I tried the fries, perfectly cooked but lacked some salt. Then on to the not-so-steak steak and cheese. Right off, from the first bite I could tell I wouldn’t like this. I got this weird taste and odor that seemed somehow familiar, but definately odd in this type of sandwich. After another couple bites it finally hit me, this odd flavor and smell was HOTDOGS! …Honestly, my steak and cheese tasted like a cheesy hotdog! So disappointing! I finished my fries and the rest of my meal, mainly because I didn’t have alot of extra income this day and couldn’t afford to go anywhere else and thinking I could do better with my microwave. The new owner was a sweetheart, with some decent ideas for changing the exterior asthetic of the place, but my message to her: Please don’t cheap out on quality food ingredients. Frozen items cost you more than fresh ones and, although easier to prepare, lack flavor. Don’t alienate an established customer base by making food that’s easier instead of tastier. I go to establishments like yours to get something I can’t make at home. I enjoy the uniqueness and the novelty of eating out. And, judging by the other recent reviews of the food, you’re gonna need to step up your game to stand out in a market as over saturated as this one. Please do not buy your proteins and cheeses at COSTCO or Sam’s Club. I will give this place another shot after a month or so.

So upset about the new owners, & they’re taking all the Mexican food off the menu. This was my go to place for nachos & Philly cheesesteaks. Not anymore.

Under new management! Super disappointing… I got the exact same thing I had before(turkey sub) and just added extra meat as that was my only tweak from my first time. The meat seems like Oscar Meyer prepackaged stuff. Big disappointment there. I ordered over the phone and when I went to pick it up, it was ready. However, they had ham on it and I can’t eat pork. They were super nice about remaking it, offered me a free drink, and im not taking any stars off for a mistake they corrected nicely. However, I asked for no onions or mayo, add oil and vinegar. They must have asked me 6 times«do you want lettuce?» «What about pickles?» Etc, and then still left off the oil and vinegar. So between that, and the quality of the sub I was bummed. My family got Philly cheesesteaks and were pleased. Not the best they’ve ever had, but still good. Before I felt like this hole in the wall was gold that I wanted to take family too, but now it’s just meh.

!!!WARNINGUNDERNEWMANAGEMENT!!! The Mexican Food, gyros, desserts and several items have been removed from the menu and the cold & hot sandwich portion of the menu has been modified. Two stars due the restaurant being in limbo(menu wise) right now until the new owners can put their own stamp on the place. Will check back in a couple months.

Got the gyro with onion rings. Pretty good, however not as good as overseas(obviously). My buddy got the Cuban and said it was a «solid sandwich».

I found this place to be disgusting. I ordered enchiladas and I got incredibly sick after I ate them of course I should have known I would when they tasted weird. I will not be returning.

Delicious filling food for a great price. The owner was extremely personable and even gave me a free sample of the rice and beans. Excellent food and service at a great price. So glad I found this place!

I was cruising by and thought I wanted something other than a chain place to grab lunch. I have to say I was very impressed. I asked the guy behind the counter what sandwiches were the best and he listed 3. Unfortunately, I can’t remember them all because when he said Philly Steak and Cheese I was sold. I got a combo with a 12 inch sub, onion rings, and a drink. I was not disappointed. The gentleman running the place was helpful and seemed to care about the customer. That’s not always something you find in this area. I’ll be back at this place. I relied on Unilocalers when picking this place and they called it. It is definitely worth stopping at.

Got to love this place, you’ll be a repeat customer guarantee. Everything is done from scratch, sure there’s a wait for that. But pretty worth the wait. All the menu is simply amazing. The fries are just perfect here, you will leave here with a smile and a full stomach. You will never see subway the same after you come here. Come hungry.

As previous Unilocalers posted, this place is much more frightening from the outside. Don’t let appearances keep you away! My fiancé and I decided to try this based on Unilocal reviews(thanks once again Unilocalers!). He loves gyros and we saw they had them on the menu. The outside looks like there could be drug deals going on at the corner but it was far from it. We were greeted by a very pleasant and sweet woman who was the utmost helpful and a pleasure to receive service from. My fiancé ordered the gyro, I ordered the Cuban. The portions are quite large and I was stuffed with barely touching my onion rings. My Cuban wasn’t on Cuban bread but they did toast the hoagie roll that it was on and the flavor was super delicious. My fiancé liked his gyro and said he would go back but he does want to keep looking for a super amazing gyro place(nothing against theirs, it just wasn’t «perfect» to him). If you’re looking for a delicious sandwich locally definitely give this place a chance!

Don’t be put off by the look of the place, on the outside. The food is pretty darn good if you’re looking for a cheap dinner pick-up. I just finished my meatball and cheese sub, I would say it was pretty darn tasty. The chocolate chimichanga will get you in trouble, big time… I have horrible self control when it comes to desserts. It’s like a deep fried tortilla wrapped with a snickers bar topped with whipped cream, chocolate, honey, cherries… Think deep fried ice cream except a bit differently. The best part? I only live right up the street! Yum :)

Quality sandwich shop with great service. I’m still looking for my go to best in town place in Norfolk for subs and gyros until then this place is good and I will continue to come back. The staff love their job and are super friendly although they may look intimidating. We got a free sample of their Mexican rice and beans which was great and shows they care about return customers.

Awesome Philly cheesesteak! I love this place, everything looks so good I can’t wait to try more stuff. Their Mexican refrained beans are delicious and their burrito seems to be popular;)

We’ve lived here for more than 2 years now and have driven past this place every single day. My husband, without fail, would say«I have no idea how that place is still here. It looks scary.» So when I suggested we try it out(based on the pretty stellar reviews) he hesitated. He actually said. «Ok. But not today.» haha I don’t know what changed his mind(from when he left the office to his drive back home) but this is where we ended up going for lunch. Walking inside, the place is pretty small and a lot cleaner than what you’d expect. They make everything to order so it does take a little bit of time if there are multiple orders in the que. Now I wasn’t sure what to expect but I did hope that my fellow Unilocalers hadn’t just outright lied to me about the goodness of this place. I don’t know what they season the meat with but man-o-man that sandwich was TASTY! It has some serious flavor and my husband not adding salt and/or pepper says a lot. Great sandwich. We got the 12″ and split it. Because I didn’t think a measly 12″ sandwich was going to do, I ended up getting 1 gyro, too. The meat was wonderfully seasoned and cut thick. It paired nicely with the veg and sauce. The only(very tiny minor) issue I had was the flat bread seemed to dwarf the rest of the ingredients. It seemed overly thick. Good flat bread. Weird balance. We also got an order of fries. Not much to say about them. Pretty standard fare. The one thing of note regarding the french fries was the sprinkling of kosher salt. That’s good eat’n folks. So. 1) Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, 2) Kosher salt works just as well on french fries as it does EVERYTHING, and 3) I have no idea what a Philly cheese steak is supposed to taste like but their version was bang’n!

YOWZAA just had one damn amazing cheese steak while I have always had good food here this was off the charts! Tons of chopped rib eye the perfect amount of onions, peppers and mushrooms. If you like a good philly ya gotta have the grease/juice factor and this was flavor city and not overly greasy just enough to soak the bread lightly and add flavor.

Looks are very deceiving, hole in the wall & subs were pretty good. Food is made to order, so expect a 10min wait. Got a 6″ Italian sub, fries, o-rings, & mix(tea/lemon aid) drink. Mix drink was good. Tea & lemon aid made in house. Italian sub was hot & good. Fries are ok but the o-rings were a bit greasy. Also got a philly cheese steak & that was ok but not the best. I’d go back but would try something different.

It may not look like much on the outside, but this place is absolutely fantastic! I wasn’t sure of what to order, so I went with what my boyfriend ordered — a ½ cheesesteak sub combo with fries & a drink. The food took no more than 5 minutes to come out after placing the order, and was nice and crispy from being toasted in the oven. That’s a plus — some sub shops«toast» your sub by nuking it in the microwave for a few minutes. This place gets it right! The owner was friendly too, even checking up on us to see if we needed anything while we were dining in. Now that’s what I call customer service! If you’re serious about subs, stop by and give this place a shot. You won’t be disappointed. Can’t wait to stop by again to try some of the Mexican foods on the menu.
