Decent service, food mediocre at best. Driving through with the family and saw this place and gave it a try. Cook is kind of lazy low quality and style. Pricing is average for a diner which I would say overpriced for the quality received.

This is a surprisingly solid diner! Staff is good and there was plenty of attention & help tonight. Our server was the lovely Crystal. Another young lady came by to pour water & a young man asked how we enjoyed our dinner. My matza ball soup was pretty good. I was so relieved it wasn’t just consommé. It had chicken shreds & veggies plus a little pasta. My son liked his Cesar gyro salad without croutons & the hubby liked his lamb shank. The little one enjoyed his steak tips & rice. Of course We all went for our desserts! Two of us got the chocolate ice creAm, the others got chocolate & strawberry cheesecake. Everything was delectable. My only criticism would be NOT putting the delicious looking dessert case in the entryway. Right off Kids(& the adults) were too tempted, lol!

Typical greek diner for the area. The menu has pretty much something for everyone, from 24 hour breakfast, greek and italian specialties, daily specials. The place gets crowded especially for breakfast on the weekends.

Best of the best, NOT. Run down. Food is mediocre and that was eggs and bacon. Service fine. Coffee not fit for human consumption

Greek diners are famous for their homemade Greek food at decent prices. Silver Star does not disappoint with their chicken souvlaki — huge portion on pita for $ 9.95. Chicken pieces were flavorful though a few were a little gristly, but there were so many it didn’t matter. Also love that they serve wine if you’d like a glass with your food. Attentive counter service by a nice Greek lady. Can’t go wrong here or at Penny’s either.

If I believed everything that’s on Unilocal I never would have come here with all of the miserable reviews. The ironic thing of course is that would a place like this or any place for that matter last thirty some years if it were as bad as a lot of these shill reviews make things out to be? Duh, of course not which is why my guess is that a lot of the reviews for Silver Star are 100% BS. Now that’s not to say that Silver Star is some kind of five star establishment(even though their sign outside tells you otherwise) because it’s not but it’s also not nearly as bad as most reviews make it out to be. This place screams diner cliché in almost every way possible. I don’t know if it is, but it reeks of being a classic Greek/Syrian diner in every way where the place is large, the menu is large, the portions are fairly large and everything from the staff to the satellite radio playing cheesy 80’s is large yet the service was also fast & very personable. So why not five stars? The prices are very high. Two pancakes by themselves should not be $ 6.49. If you want anything with them it raises the prices an additional $ 2-$ 4 and let’s not forget the beverage to add on even more. That’s insane! There seems to be a disconnect with reality in this part of CT regarding what food actually should cost or maybe it’s just me because seemingly every restaurant is allowed to pad/tack on an additional 20−30% past any point of common sense. The quality of what we had was perfectly fine within the realm of diner breakfast food the same as the quantity and the service as I already mentioned was more than fine but even still I can’t get past the high prices. Overall this place is a winner and we’ll probably be back in October. (Here’s to hoping the satellite radio is playing something other than Rick Astley as we’re walking in the door or the Fine Young Cannibals as we’re leaving.)

The menu is huge and I’ve been going here since I was a kid. It used to be really great, but the food quality has really gone down the past few years. The last two times I went I got sick. The first I figured was a coincidence, but after the second I won’t go back.

Shocking is all I can say. I used to come here in the early 90s. I hadn’t been back til very recently. They haven’t changed ANYTHING — no maintenance on the interior — it is completely gross and disgusting. I can only imagine what the kitchen must look like. The food is among the very worst anywhere. Afterwards, I noticed that the City Health inspector rated it with 1 «lighthouse». «1» is very bad, that means it has numerous violations that they have to clear up! My guess is that the price of the real estate that this diner sits on is in the many millions of dollars and the owners have clearly chosen to defer any cleaning, improvements, etc. Owners are probably waiting for some national chain to offer them silly money. I’ll predict it won’t last another year. Don’t even think of going anywhere near this establishment. A time warp horror. Yes, it’s really THAT bad.

I’m shocked by the negative reviews. And they do not have roaches everywhere. Lol sounds like someone wanted to get a free meal… anyway… I’ve been coming here since 2003. Before kids, now with my son at five, we both cone at least every other week for brunch or a dinner. The staff is incredibly attentive and nice. They basically watched my son grow up and they never forget named of their regulars. They are kid friendly with crayons and mats to draw, balloons, even cookies to go for free when they have any more left! We typically get breakfast for any meal and at times ill try a special. But our favorites are the omlettes, waffles, grits, pancakes. I also love their Greek dishes. It’s a diner. Diner food is not supposed to be a fine cut filet lol. So if you are looking for good regular diner food give it a try. What’s fabulous is they make their own desserts on premises. They are always fresh and delicious bakery like desserts. You don’t find that a lot. They are always packed on weekends. Yet always attentive. The staff had longevity which is nice to see. There is only one waitress who never smiles unless you are in a part of 4 or more. She’s Hispanic, but the rest constantly smiling, happy, making the experience really comfortable. Couple recommendations: They need to get steak fries vs those thin battered ones. Also upgrade the women’s restroom!

My meal was virtually inedible. My burger was charred to the point of rivalling a lump of coal. My fries were ancient, greasy and disgusting. The waitress, while nice enough, was not even marginally attentive. The fact that she never checked on our party and served me slop is clear evidence thereof. When I was a kid Silver Star was a treat. The food, service and atmosphere were always exceptional. I’m disgusted and disappointed at how low the standards have sunk. A complete let down!!!

Zero stars. The waitress was as pleasant as a strung out driver stuck in rush hour traffic and they committed the worse cooking offense that can be committed… they microwaved the bacon. I would expect microwaved bacon from a free continental breakfast at a cheap truck stop hotel but from a Diner? To top it off their prices are out of line for the quality of food they serve! Bacon reheated in the microwave… really?
