Fruitvale Village

In my opinion Fruitvale Village plaza is one of the best examples of «community in action» in all of Oakland. Here you will find a comprehensive collection of small business owners; not for profit organizations; learning communities for pre-​school through college students, health centers and financial centers.
This is a plaza is a picture perfect example of a full service community. I can’t think of another village plaza that has a pre-​school, high school, community college annex and a señor center all in one location. Onsite you will find organizations dedicated to serving the community like Unity Council’s Homeownership Center, a community check cashing center and a family health center, Fruitvale Optometry, dental offices and Citi bank. The village plaza also houses residential lofts, a public library, high school, pre-​school, college annex, senior center, State Farm insurance agent, and technology repair shop.
Last but not least.; there is some of the BEST food available right here! You can meander through quaint shops and restaurants like Powderface with it’s beautiful outdoor patio, or Taco Grill with the absolute freshest tacos in the entire city. I was instantly attracted to all of the tasty sweet goods: fresh warm Churros, fresh baked goods from El Sol Bakery; the absolute best handmade ice creams and icees made with fresh fruits and exotic flavors like rose petal which taste just like roses! Of course you have plenty of choices of authentic Mexican food, Papa John’s pizza, Chinese food… if’s a Foodie Wonderland!
What I love most are the families I meet at Fruitvale Village plaza. We sometimes diligently work through language barriers, and most everyone here is really nice and friendly. You can actually meet small business owners who are dedicated, and still smile at work, while balancing business and family. Spend enough time here and you are sure to meet the families of some of these business owners. Like the owner of Essence Unlimited who has something like six brothers; two of whom make some of the best chocolate candies I have ever had the pleasure of tasting, and the cutest grandchildren! Or Letitia (the owner of Taco Grill) and her sister in law who is expecting a baby any day now! On Saturday, the plaza offers a free childrens activities including a jumper.
This is truly a beautiful place. Everything you need is right here in one location. Plenty of parking including free bicycle parking. Just a quick and easy Bart ride to OAK and SFO airports. Come by for some real Oakland flavor.
