Jim’s workshops are fantastic! I took Jazz Improv 1 and 2, and my ear and my playing improved beyond measure. The combined lecture+workshop format is great, where you try out the things you learned in the lecture on your instrument, playing and improvising with other students. Jim is a great teacher and musician, and has paid his dues as a Jazz artist playing with some of the Great musicians of our time.

Jim Grantham writes the books the musicians play. He is «The Source» for Jazz Theory and Practice and presents clearly, concisely and with precision. He spans a 40+ year career as a player and teacher, and plays with the best. If you are serious about music and love Jazz, study w/​Jim. He’s the best!

Jim is as good as it gets. He is what I have been looking for for a long time. He takes a deep dive into jazz theory (the real stuff!). And equally works on the practical elements of ear training, rhythm, etc. He believes in developing both spheres of the brain.
I highly recommend him if you are serious about jazz.

I have been working with Jim in private lessons. He’s the real deal AND he knows how to teach. I’ve studied a lot of things with a lot of people and found that while someone can be a very good musician, only a good musician who knows how to pass that knowledge on can effectively teach it. Jim Grantham is that guy. Great teacher, great tools, great spirit of a man.
