Very good dim sum can be found here, at very reasonable prices. My favorites here included the very large Pot Stickers, and the siu mai. The baked pork bun(70 cents) was the size of two buns at most dim sum restaurants. It was full of pork filling. Almost like a meal in itself. I thought the Chow Fun was better at Tao Yuen. Both places are very similar and the competition ensures that your wallet will not be compromised. We spent about $ 5.50 per person here… would have spent $ 20 to get similar dim sum in Sacramento.

I love this place! Their pork buns are fantastic, and their egg tarts are creamy and delicious.

I was on the hunt for freshly made Chinese Rice Krispies and this was the only place in Oakland Chinatown that sold them! They are priced at $ 1.25 per piece and they taste goooooood! Fellow Unilocalers, please send me a message if I miss a place in Oakland Chinatown for Chinese Rice Krispies!

I only got to taste the egg custard, which was good. The place is a bit grundgy, but it looks like I need to try it for lunch!

Yet another totally average Chinatown eatery that does mostly take-out business. Serves dim sum, entrees, as well as buns and other bakery items. Like all its competitors up and down the street, this place’s main value proposition is that of price, not quality, so you’re merely going to get what you pay for, given such cheap prices. Average all around.

Sum Yee reminds me of those white delivery boxes with greasy Chinese in it. I ordered a 3 item lunch special for $ 5.25 and it was nothing short of «meh, this is okay». Huge portions, super cheap, extra greasy and the typical rude service but for $ 5.25, it’s not a terrible deal. Truth be told, I’d rather feast on a couple of banh mi from Cam Hong but they’re closed on Wednesdays.

I like their chow mein and other stir fried noodles. They’re tasty, cheap and come in big serving sizes. For $ 3.75(tax inclusive) I got a 2 item combo. A big serving of rice/noodle and a meat or veggie dish. Mind you, their noodles are made with a generous serving of veggie, meat and spices. It’s better quality than the Panda express or even P.F. Chang noodles. For an additional &1.20, you can get one extra dish to your combo. DimSum dishes are mostly $ 0.70/pc. English is not widely spoken, but I get by with a combination of verbal and sign language. My point finger does most of the work. Some servers are better in English than others. But all of them are very polite and helpful.

Cheap and fast dim sum and selective hot food items to go. I remember the quality of the dim sum being a lot better but for how little you are paying, you can’t complain.

I will say that the woman at the counter is very friendly but all of the food, noodles and dim sum, tasted flour-y. The pork siu mai was pretty good but the shrimp was not great as there was too much wrapping(thick) and not enough shrimp. My favorite dim sum is still Good Luck dim sum on Clement and I have yet to find a kick ass place in Oakland. Suggestions welcomed!

I really like this place. Yeah, Tao Yuen is good, but this unheralded place is my go to place for dim sum to go. I can also eat there and the lady with the glasses is very kind. When I order a lot to take home, she always is thankful. Their shrimp ball, with panko, if I’m not mistaken, is outstanding. Baked pork buns very good, too. Bacon wrapped shrimp, oh, so good. Right next to the Vietnamese sandwich shop, so hit two birds with one stone. They have four small tables if you want a quick bite. And for some reason, there’s always a pleasant breeze. I like it also because it’s a little off the beaten path, and it’s a little hidden. Cash only. Today I spent my entire $ 40. The nice lady said, «don’t worry honey, my bank is right across the street.»

This is the best of Chinatown in America all rolled into one. Great usual foods. Ginger beef, sweet and sour. The fried rice is exquisite. There’s also many options of one off little purchases like potstickers and other tasty things that i have no idea what theyvare and why they taste so good.

3.5 stars. More of a takeaway joint but there are tables. I am always looking for the perfect ham sui gok(fried sweet rice ball stuffed with ground pork) and so far they do a pretty good version, considering it is cheap. Their bacon wrapped fish cakes are decent. Good value for the price.

Stopped in here to grab some snacks to go. Great roast pork bun, and I also got a steamed chicken bun. Great prices, easy to order at the counter. Would definitely come here again.

Still my favorite dim sum place. The steamed or baked pork buns are so delicious! The bacon wrapped shrimp and the potstickers are pretty good too! The noodle dishes as others have mentioned isn’t their strength, but it’s far from unpalatable, but I’d give it an «ok“‘rating. I still go there 1 – 2 per week after the gym :)

Sum Yee Pastry is a true mom & pop. Like, mom & pop were both working today. You can place an order through their Unilocal page, which I did because I’m antisocial and hungover today(as per every Saturday). Coming in there though, maaaaaybe I should have just come in to order my dim sum. You don’t realize how large those dumplings are online! They were probably expecting a 250 lb man to pick my order up. –Egg tart($ 0.60): Delicious, flaky, and fresh. –Egg roll($ 0.70): One of the best I’ve had. Perfectly greasy, flaky, and meaty. –Steamed pork bun($ 0.60): Very tasty w/well seasoned pork belly filling. –Shark fin gow($ 0.50): Good, but not a lot of flavor. –Chives dumpling:($ 0.65): The filling was good, but the dumpling was very loose and goopy. I felt like I was eating those human membrane bubbles from The Matrix. I’ll pass on this one next time –Ha gao($ 0.70): Delicious shrimp dumpling. This was my favorite of the bunch. They serve Chinese entrees for seriously cheap here, 2 for $ 3.50. They also offer milk tea for $ 1.50. *CASHONLY unless you’re using the Eat24 app.

The grimy-ass dim sum spot that I don’t want to like because I feel like there would be a mess in the back… but I like it none the less.(like, not love) And apparently so do the crowds of chinese locals who roll into this place. Some of it is hit or miss. The usual grimy fried stuff is solid, the hot and sour soup that sits in the middle with all types of other food that falls into it is surprisingly good. And the pork belly dish is off the hizzy. I wouldn’t run to this spot or highly recommend it… but when I’ve walked by here… I’m like, «F******ck…ok, just a few things» and then buy a couple of dim sum items. On the bright side, it’s dirt cheap — so I have no qualms about taking a bite of something and not finishing it. =P

Chowfun noodles to go should have been a no-go. I was a quarter through eating a small container of this and found a foreign surprise in my food. I immediately threw the rest out. Additionally, other things I’ve had here ranks from meh — I’m sure I’m tasting an unflavored pool of oil swishing in my mouth.

My brother mentioned this place due to his old job location was near here and he would bring home treats from here & my family would rave about it. The Har Gow and Siu Mai! 3 for $ 1.50! Siu Mai are HUGE! Har Gow is thin pastry which is good in my book because I like to taste the filling of shrimp more! Located in Dtown Oakland — I came here and ordered a few pink boxes full of Hargow and Siu Mai! The rice noodle is good too! Especially with Shrimp!

This isn’t the best food, but it’s quick and cheap. you get what you pay for. It’s pretty solid bakery/take-out place. There is some seating if you’d like to eat your food there. I usually get the 3 item lunch boxes for under $ 5, or I’ve gotten their dishes(chow mein, beef stew, boneless pork ribs, eggplant and tofu, etc.) by the pound to bring to potlucks or lunch meetings. Their bake goods and dim sum are also pretty solid and not too greasy(All chinese food is pretty greasy). This place never seems to have a huge line but it’s not because the food isn’t good.

Lets bump up the ratings :) I love this place because you see it before you eat it! If it doesn’t look fresh, it probably isn’t… so don’t order it.(duh!) The steamed items are usually spot on! Love the pork buns and coconut buns.
