This is tiny taqueria is a special place. The staff is kind and the food is made with love. I have been here numerous times every experience has been wonderful and their refried beans are some of the tastiest I have had. This review is long over due. All that is left to do after reading this is to go there and see for yourself.

Had a great lunch! Everything was as close as homemade as u can get. I loved the«homey» feeling I had when we tried it, the service was good and the food was exceptional.

Small restaurant but the food here is on point. I mainly go for the pozole, which is made with homemade hominy, not the stuff that comes in a can. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a delicious bowl of pozole!

The search for great menudo continues. Highly recommended and popular, I was excited to try this family biz. Sunday around noon is busy, a good sign. I see 2 guys having the menudo blanco. Looks good. I’m craving the gelatinous porky– ness of the rojo broth I had at Diablo taqueria in Burlingame. Close, a nice bowl but the broth isn’t as complex or rich. I like dried herbs instead of cilantro as the side. The tripe was tender honeycomb. Just didn’t come together.

Delicious soups of all kind. My favorite is the Birria. They also have amazing Menudo Rojo as well as some spicy chicken soup. Perfect hangover cure, especially with the fresh homemade tortillas that come with every order, as well as rice and beans.

Their enchiladas are estilo caseras, in other words like the ones my grandma makes at home with the lettuce and sour cream on top! Yumm.

First time here, will be back soon! We came seeking menudo on a Saturday morning and found just what we were looking for. The menudo rojo with pata was tasty and we’ll prepared. Very fresh as well and this was apparent from the aroma. Also tried the chilaquiles verdes which were quite tasty and offered up in good sized portions. Other highlights: amazing corn tortillas, yummy complimentary apps(chicharron with beans, salsa and chips) and tasty aguas frescas. Great service and very traditional home style environment and flavors. This place has no frills but they don’t need it. The food and service speak volumes.

The flavors here are exactly like what you’ll find in Mexico. It’s a family run business and they are just as exquisite as the food they prepare! They definitely include secret ingredients in everything they make and those are a love for food, the culture, and family.

Like Tower of Power, I was Back to Oakland. For menudo. Again. It’s an endless search for the best bowl. Endless. I found myself back on Foothill Blvd in Fruitvale where all the usual suspects are. My last trip to these parts was back in February where I discovered Tacos El Grullo and their abundant bowl of menudo. Now that was a contender even if I had to sit in a sea of formica and look through prison bars to eat it. Sometimes ambiance isn’t everything. Owner Ana Maria Campos knows that as her taqueria is basically a shack(photo: ). There’s an Alcatraz feel to the cell block décor even tiwht the mustard-colored walls and maroon wainscotting(photo: ). I walked in one early Saturday afternoon and wasn’t sure if I was supposed to yell my order through the small teller window(photo: ). After sitting by myself in the dimly lit space for about a minute, a woman came out with a tattered menu and a tray of starters — a small basket of chips, a small serving of salsa, and a bowl of frijoles topped with queso and accompanied by a crusty piece of savory dough which I assume must be a house specialty(photo: ). A generous amount of food considering I didn’t order anything yet. And apparently she thought I was going to chow down on it for the next half-hour since I had to signal to her through the teller window to come back. I went to town. Not only did I order the $ 8.50 bowl of Menudo but also a pair of the $ 1.25 Tacos with Carnitas(photo: ). The menudo was rojo(red), my preference, but I have to say that the broth was not as rich as I was hoping while the the amount of tripe and tendons was a bit on the skimpy side(photo: ). It was good home cooking but not a neighborhood standout compared to El Grullo or Jalisco if you ask me. What really did stand out were the thick handmade corn tortillas that came not only with the menudo but as the base of the tacos which with the shredded pork and fresh salsa, were delicious treats commensurate with the bargain price. Plot twist: I came for the menudo but left remembering those corn tortillas. FOOD — 3 stars… menudo is nothing all that special, but the corn tortillas are worth getting a bunch to go(photo: ) AMBIANCE — 2 stars… now I know where OJ sleeps SERVICE — 3.5 stars… bonus points for the complimentary food but a ding for overcharging me by about three dollars TOTAL — 3 stars… the hunt for world-class menudo continues…

This place has handmade corn tortillas! Delicious! Tacos were good with guacamole. Not much seating, but very accommodating family-run business.

Oh my taco lord. Hands down the best tacos in oakland. The steak tacos are tastier than any taco ive tried in oakland. They close pretty early unlike the other taquerias. Very sketchy area so make sure you wear your bullet proof vest. Get in and get out lol. Tacos are worth risking your life for j/k

The tortillas are warm and soft, like little cornmeal blankets. Everything has a delicious«carbon» flavor. Service is very personable. Show a little respect, as if you were invited into the owner’s home, and you’ll have a wonderful time.

CASHONLY. Tried out Taqueria Campos my 2nd lunch on Sun 11÷3÷13. It’s a small place with 4 tables & two-top out of the main dining room. FREE chips w/side of beans & sprinkle of cheese. Beans tasted fresh, not from a can. I liked it. Didn’t eat the chips. Birria soup — damn fine soup! Goat was very tender too. I can just drink that soup & even skip the goat. Would be good on rice! Side of onions, cilantro, jalapeño, limes. $ 8.5 Tripe soup(Menudo Blancos) — meh, I didn’t like it. Lots of tripe & broth, nothing else in there. Very bland. $ 8.5 FRESH Homemade Corn Tortillas — yummy! I’d go back, but do Take-out! They have way too many flies in the dining area! 7a-8p daily, Cash Only

Posole and menudo. If that is what you’re craving on a weekend morning then this is your spot. It is a teeeeeeny room with teeeeenier kitchen. Bare bones place with about six tables. These ladies could have easily been one of my tias. The type meal you get at any of my relative’s homes is what you get here; you get your dish but also about three other small bites and sides. You won’t just get a bowl of posole. They will serve you beans, chicarones and a little fried taco as a garnish. A FRIEDTACOGARNISH!!! I love being Mexican.

First, this is a place to go for lovers of Soup. Period. Second, it is a place for the adventurous and Spanish-language friendly/Oakland«spice» friendly. Don’t expect 5 star furniture for a $ 10 bowl of soup that includes rice, beans, spicy sauce and hand made(to order) corn tortillas. Go for the Birria(spicy goat stew), Pisole, or homey chicken soup and you will not be disappointed. Expect them to be made by hand and watch through the window as each tortilla is hand pressed for you on a wooden press. If you speak Spanish you may enjoy a challenging order experience from a wonderful chef/waitress that for us added to the fun(it seemed we had to answer 8 – 10 questions about how we wanted the soup, including perhaps whether you want rice or not, whether the meat should be on the bone or not, etc.). Always a good sign. Warning, very limited seating for families or busy times like lunch on a weekend. If you want something«typical,» lower the rating from 5 stars down to 3 or 4 stars depending on the item. Yes they make burritos and other stuff, but I agree that things like enchiladas and burritos are ordinary. The one poor review is the kind that gets me crazy! «I went to eat at the«Biria Soup Master» and ordered a burrito… found it ordinary. Please, of course the burgers at a fish place are ordinary! This restaurant is like eating at your grandma’s house. They want to please and feed you what you want, but they also definitely have their«go to» items made with love and those that fill out the menu. For example, there is an amazing chicken guy down the street, and quite excellent ribs a bit further… all these places have burritos that are ordinary, so don’t waster your time and hit any random taco truck if that is what you want. Not the safest area and they close at 6pm, so for dinner order takeout. They do an amazing job packing it for you. PS. Stay away because I want to keep this to myself :-)

Taqueria Campos looks like a shack on the side of the road. upon closer inspection, there’s a dining room inside. half the laminated menu is in spanish with typical mexican fare. the other half is burritos, tacos, tortas, etc. eats:lenqua burrito(listed as 4, charged 5+tax) –salsa, picked veggies given –lengua soft, chewy, –broken rice disrupted mood –lardy feel –pretty small burrito, not much rice nor beans inside frijoles refritos: –cashier seemed to try to upgrade burrito to super burrito(7.5) somehow. –was asked if i wanted beans, rice, cilantro, ?. cheese, guacamole, i said no. –when told some of those was included i said ok., just a regular burrito. –have a feeling somewhere in the exchange, she added $ 1.

I’d say that it’s fair-well stunning that this place has only received 6 reviews so far. This place is quite good, authentic, friendly and reasonably priced. One of the first burritos in a good long while to make me gasp at how good it was. Definitely a go-to spot for Mexican, including good soups. Later hours is the only thing I would ask from them — they close at 6p, I think.

Fresh beans with real Mexican cheese, chips and damn spicy salsa when you sit down. Fried oreja on the house. Excellent home-made tortillas, excellent carnitas tacos. The real deal. I will return. Not just a taqueria, but a real Mexican restaurant. Like someone took a little tiny restaurant directly out of Mexico and plopped it down in Fruitvale. Super duper.
