We should have known early on that there was likely to be problems based on the level of professionalism (or lack of). Alma rented our family her Oceanside home last month, July. When we arrived we found another family living there and she had double booked. She put us up at a condo for the weekend. She assured us that she’d be back on Monday with movers to get us settled for the remainder of the week for our annual vacation. Upon arrival to pick up our bags Monday, we learned that she had rented out over the weekend as well and the home was still not ready for us. Alma proceeded to be very rude and felt that this was our problem not hers! According to the local agency she rented the condo from, she lied and said we were her family from out of town so she needed a quick favor! The trip continued to get worse and Alma was constantly saying things had to be handled through her father. The father would then say no «Alma knows the situation and is supposed to make the wrongs right». Here are a few additional things that added chaos to the trip: 1) A parking ticket she assured would be paid that we received during the drama of her continuing overbooking during our paid time — notice just received from city of Oceanside not yet paid 2) water company posted notice that they had not been paying and would be shut off, we had to contact them to ensure water during our stay 3) gas/​electric served notice to pay or services shut off… again had to contact Alma & her father to get this paid to keep utlities on 4) We had been assured deposit would be paid back by August 13^th, then Alma was AGAIN not returning calls until yesterday when she calls to notify that now her father is filing bankruptcy so no deposits will be paid back. Is this a scam? If anyone is considering renting from them DON’T. If anyone actually has update on the real story, please let us know.
