I loved the patio, the guacamole, the pupusa, and the margaritas!!! What I did not like was having to order both food and drinks at a counter – if I wanted to do that, I would have gone to Taco Bell or Taco Bueno. It was very inconvenient to finish a margarita, only to have to get up from your table to go to the counter to order another margarita. From past reviews, I think they had wait staff when they first opened. I would suggest that they go back to that method of service.

This is a place I wish I would’ve discovered four years ago when I moved to the city. However, they did just revamp their layout(as told by a manager) so I’m not too sure how this place was previously. All I can say now is this place has it going on. Held my taco Tuesday birthday here recently with 25 of my friends and 92%(including myself) had never had Chiltepe’s in the past. I’m glad I could have picked a place new to so many people that have lived in the city for such a long time. It was so good my fiancé and I brought another crown of 15+ that following Thursday. The service is outstanding. You order your food at the counter and are given a number. The staff members are friendly and respectful and are quick to bring you the food you ordered. It’s visually appetizing and the aromas will set your taste buds off before that first bite. The bar area is stocked up and ready to serve you whatever you desire. Just approach the ordering area and it is yours for the taking or they’ll bring you your mixed drink. If you’re looking for a place to watch the game this is a chill place for such an occasion. Both times there’s been a Thunder game on and we’ve pretty much had the place to ourselves. Lots of TV’s for your viewing pleasure. There aren’t any televisions outside so you will have to stay inside to enjoy it when a game is on. Taco Tuesday specials are dynamite and fill you up and easily the best tasting and bang for your buck in town. $ 1 for chicken and beef, $ 1.50 for fish, and $ 1.99 for shrimp are the prices all day Tuesday. That’s half off their original price. Like I said before, they’re flavorful and tasty. The vegetarian Guatemalan enchiladas are outstanding and will leave you stuff once you finish them and your two side dishes. The rice and beans are basic in comparison to the rest of the menu items, but the star of every dish definitely shines the brightest. The quesadillas are huge, but could be improved with visual acuity and flavor. The queso needs to be a little thicker, but those are my only complaints and that’s minute in the grand scheme of my time at this restaurant. The place is clean and family friendly so bring the little tykes and grab your grandparents if you want a place that can accommodate small to large crowds. Remember to order at the counter and if you need anything you need to ask. There is no waitstaff, only servers. Silverware is rolled up on the table and ready for you to take. Definitely will be a new place to frequent so I hope to see you there sometime.

I was disappointed. The shredded chicken is amazing. And so were the veggie tacos, but everything else I tried(shredded beef & verde tamales) seems bland and tasteless. Or was wayyy too salty(borracho beans) And my fried potatoes were old and undercooked Staff was helpful and friendly, but no one came to ask how anything was or tasted, or I would have at least let someone know how our first experience was.

Finally got to try Chiltepe’s outside of a FOP event, and I have to say, it’s A-OK. When you walk in, you’re greeted with a counter where you place your order and take a number to your table. I was not expecting this, but according to the cashier, it was a fairly recent change. Take note that if you want chips and salsa, you will need to order it while at the counter. The patio is great when the weather is cooperating: great view of the Plaza, spacious, etc. Service was quick as it did not take long for our food to come. My tacos, rice, and beans were yummy but to be honest, they did not fill me up. The margaritas were only ok, but at least fulfilled their goal of providing alcohol. Overall, it’s not a bad spot if you want to grab some drinks with a bit of food on the side.

This was our 1st time visit and enjoyed it very much. I had a grilled shrimp taco & a grilled fish taco with chips & queso. All of it was very delicious. I can not wait to go back and try more food of the menu. Great beer specials, and taco Tuesdays.

We are«Mexican food snobs»(yes I know Chiltepes is Guatemalan but there’s some TexMex on the menu…), so we were very pleasantly surprised to find Chiltepes in the plaza district. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Great atmosphere. Wonderful patio. Excellent food. Reasonable prices. Strong drinks. Fast and friendly service. A must in OKC when you’re craving food from south of the border!

I went to Chiltepes for dinner on Taco Tuesday and was really disappointed in the food and service. My food was cold when I got it and didn’t taste fresh at all. Also, we had to remind our waiter to get my friend her beer, which she ordered as soon as she got there. I won’t be going back to this joint.

As with all of the places I visit in the Plaza District, I’m a fan of Chiltepes. I’ve had some of their catered food before and was a big fan so I was excited to visit on my own terms. I thoroughly enjoy the open layout and friendly atmosphere of Chiltepes. On the occasion that the Missus and I visited, we decided to sit at the bar… and were very happy with the quick service from the bartenders. I decided to have their pulled brisket quesadilla and was very happy with the taste and portion size. There was just enough quesadilla to finish if you were super hungry and also just enough to take home if you had had a big lunch. The drink prices were very fair and the food prices were on point with other similar establishments. Overall, I was impressed with my visit and look forward to eating at Chiltepes many more times!

Taco Tuesday’s here are amazing. They have $ 1 tacos(soft or crispy) and they are full sized and not like the ones you get at Iguana. Plus the tacos are delicious. Service is always great as well.

I used to love Chiltepes. The Guatemalan food is fantastic and second only to my mom’s tamales and caldo de res. I am, however, really disappointed with the new format. It is chaotic. You have to order before you are seated. Which would be fine if the setup of the entrance was conducive for that. Instead you have a bottleneck of people crowding around the entrance while they look over menus and before ordering from the counter. They bring your food out to you, but that is the only time we saw the waitstaff. If you need anything else, you have to go find someone. The food is still good but the experience leaves much to be desired. I will only go back if I’m getting take out.

I’ve been to Chiltepes once before. The food was fantastic. I couldn’t wait to go back. So when I moved into the area recently I took the opportunity to take my family there. I talked the place up big. That was a mistake. It just added to the disappointment. They stop you as soon as you enter to tell you they’ve changed; new«concept, new menu, new prices. You are no longer seated and waited on. You must order there at the counter. This isn’t what we were looking for but we’d already spent 15 minutes looking for parking because it was so busy in the area that afternoon. So we stayed. You are given your beverage cups and flatware at the counter. You are given your chips(if you buy them, no more free chips) at the counter. Then you seat yourself and wait. There’s no water, unless you get it yourself, and no salsas. We finally decided what we wanted. But by that time there were 6 others at the counter. At one point I counted 15 people there wanting to order. It was chaos. After getting our drinks my dad found something in his water. So we finally flagged down a «server» and asked for another. He was very polite and apologetic. And he was very polite when he brought us another EMPTY glass. I’m getting really mad at this point. He brought our food(yay!) and two salsas(I don’t know if the others are options anymore). The salsas were too late; we’d already nearly finished the chips and queso we ordered. The queso wasn’t good. Here’s where the experience really goes south, no pun intended. One of my biggest pet peeves is a sandwich that falls apart when you eat it. It just wrecks my meal. I ordered a burrito thinking it would come on a plate. It was wrapped and came in a basket. Okay, fine. The first time I bit into it everything started oozing out the bottom. The more I tried to hold it together the worse it got. Finally I asked for a plate, again as soon as we could flag the guy down. On top of that, they didn’t leave out the beans like I asked, they just swapped them out for another kind. I have to say, the food is still(mostly) really good. But they’re trying to be something they’re not. They’re calling themselves a taco joint now. Tacos make up a very small portion of the menu. Unless someone drags me there again, I won’t be back. They need to get their act(back) together.

I made a few resolutions this year and it only took until January 9th to completely give up on all my new year’s resolutions and I blame Chiltepes. Resolution one: Cut down on carbs Resolution two: Eat less appetizers Resolution three: Drink less Resolution four: Split more meals Resolution five: Don’t leave restaurants needing a nap We have been wanting to try Chiltepes for a while and ended up here on an impromptu date night. We were seated next to the tortilla making station and I think watching them being made with so much care made me want to eat more of them. Resolution one: Whoops. We were served chips with four dips and the salsa was fresh with just enough heat, the queso was creamy, the black bean dip wasn’t too heavy and some delicious avocado concoction should come with a straw. Resolution two: not a chance. The waiter took our drink order and when I realized they had a greyhound with fresh grapefruit juice and campari, I had to have one. It was delicious and had a little carbonation to it, this drink alone would bring me back in the doors. There goes resolution three! I let Unilocal make my order and realized the pupusas were the way to go. In my defense, I asked my hubby to split them and he said ‘not a chance’ because he wanted to try those and the pollo guisado. Strike number four, but in such a delicious way. I ordered the mixed pupusas and they were so flavorful but very heavy. I do think we could’ve split them with maybe a salad or soup to accompany them, but the way he inhaled his pollo guisado let me know it was OK we didn’t. I did manage a few bites of his and totally understand. The chicken was delicious and adding it to rice and beans in the handmade tortillas is the way to go. The only thing that wasn’t just a knockout for me was the sides: The coleslaw-like side with mine was too vinegary and I’m not sure why the pollo guisado needed macaroni salad, but it left more room for the important stuff like queso. I don’t think I have to tell you that I threw resolution five out the window with this meal, but it was oh so worth it and we will be back to try more of the menu.

Blah… From the bean dip & salsa to the pickled beet enchiladas the food was less than tasty. Bits of food deposited at the bottom of my water made this place thoroughly unappetizing. My wife barely touched her chicken leg dish. Mushy rice, flavorless beans and blah pasta salad. The service was decent and the manager came and spoke to me about my meal and was very polite and didn’t charge me. If come back if they would make some improvements to the menu.

I love Chiltepes! Great authentic food and an amazing bar! I’m a huge fan of their margaritas, they are so unique. They give you all sorts of salsas with your chips as well, and they are all delicious! It’s also relatively affordable for what it is.

We went to this restaurant on a Night on the Plaza night. Very impressed with this restaurant. First of all we were drawn in the incredibly good band playing outdoors on their patio. That’s when I really first noticed that the place was much larger than I had first noticed on precious jaunts to the Plaza. Upon entering Chilitepes we were greeted by two young hostesses. They were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We were seated in a booth where I had the chance to look around. There are several super large TV’s. One of which had a soccer match on. I think they take their soccer seriously in here. Overall the restaurant is very nice inside and very busy. There were people at all the tables and booths not to mention the patio where live music was occurring. The Margarita was excellent. The food is what hooked me. I ordered some Chalupas and they were so spot on. The outer tortilla had the perfect amount of crunch and the meat was cooked and seasoned to perfection. If the Chalupas were any indication of the rest of their menu then you just can’t go wrong. I highly recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to go back and try some other menu items.

File this one under places to go over and over. My friends and I wanted to try somewhere new, and we basically covered our eyes and put our finger on a map to find this place.(The map may or may not have been of the Paseo, but.) The server was phenomenal. I can’t remember his name. Jerry maybe? He kept us entertained, drinks full, and was just genuinely awesome all night. The patio is great and a skip away from ice cream at Roxy’s, but honestly I had their cheesecake and maybe just do that instead? That cheesecake was bomb.

Pupusas!!! Don’t order anything else. Seriously we’ve tried other items on the menu like flautas, enchiladas Guatemalan pollo … Pupusas are what you travel to this spot for! Staff is plentiful and friendly. They do take reservations and they have beer and beverage specials even on weekends. Bean dip is bomb. Perfect location in Plaza to shop and bar hop before and after!

Happy stop. They were having issues with the AC and the pupusa maker went home early, the only two things bad I can report. Service was a bit spastic because of the issues at hand but they were doing their best. I had the Etofado and it was tasty. A good beef stew sort of dish. Loved the patio pets but I’m kind of crazy like that. BUTTHEYDONTTAKEAMEX!!!

Excellent lunch and margaritas! Came here on a warm spring day and sat out on the patio. The service was spot on. We quickly were seated and brought tortilla chips and different salsas. They also brought some sort of broth soup which was pretty good. I had the chicken enchiladas with a white sauce on top, very tasty. My mom had chicken quesadillas and said they were awesome. The coconut margarita was one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had. It had chunks of real coconut on the bottom. We left full and happy.

Great service, great patio. Inside is family style and simple, but nice and clean. I suggest trying the Guatemalan specialties like the pupusas. They are good and something you can’t get at too many places in OKC. Also, come here for lunch. There are great specials in the $ 6-$ 8 range, which is a great deal.

Unfortunately, I’m really not a fan of this place. I would give them 2.5 stars… Chips and salsas– while I enjoyed the flavors, sauces are notably thin. Everything just slides off your chips. I would rather they offered one salsa and did it well, you know? Food quality is where I get the most heartburn. We had the carne asada and bistec. Meat quality was too low for the price. Rice and beans cost pennies… no reason why your meat quality should be that poor when prices are the same as other folks pulling it off better.

Considering we adopted our boy from Guatemala, we are always up for trying something from WAY south of the border. As for the food… We have enjoyed the Rellenitos as an appetizer. These dumplings made of mashed plantains and stuffed with blacks beans made our mouths happy. On recommendation of the staff, we tried the Papusas and Pepian del pollo. The Pepian lacked a stand-out flavor for me, but the Papusas were meat and cheese-stuffed tortilla goodness. Definitely the winner in the dinner plate face off. As a dessert, we tried the Plantains del Crema. Now… We love our plantains, but the sugar and sour cream mixture dipping sauce was a bit weird. Maybe we are too gringo for our own good. In the end, we’ve been here a few times now, and a few items have stood out, but nothing keeps calling us back like some of the other Guatemalan places in the city.

I don’t know why it took me so long to try this wonderful place when it is so close to me. Recently finishing a big make over, this place now looks absolutely wonderful, and it is a lot bigger on the inside than I expected. They even have a full bar, which was a great surprise. The servers here were very attentive and a pleasure to interact with. The menu has a broad selection, with plenty to choose from, especially for picky eaters like myself. I expected a typical Mexican food quality and was blown away. The prices lead me to believe my food would be sub-par, but the dishes that came out were delectable. This will definitely become a date night staple for my wife and I.

When I eat whole fish. I feel closer to JESUS. So this is what the 5000 hungry souls he feed in present times would look like. The whole fried Fish is very good. Chiltepe’s latin cuisine is located at 1800 n.w.16th n plaza in the plaza district. The bar is open until 2am. The queso has been cold im my second visit. but when you request a second bowl its hot. I don’t understand why that is. The staff are friendly and helpful with great suggestions.

I dined here when they first opened and am basing my review souly on the food just to be fair. It was good. Queso — not orange or yellow. Kind of creamy looking. I needed more of that stuff in my life. Always turn down queso, but this was an exception. Chips– good. Crispy, lightly salted. I actually enjoyed the batch that was slightly undercooked. Felt like they tasted better, but that’s just me. My Pollo de Crema? Also good. The beans were my fav part of the dish. Everything else was pretty standard though I wasn’t wild about the sauce. Chicken was tender. Pupusas– really really good. My husband ordered them and the icing on the cake. They stuffed it well enough so that you got a good portion of meat with each bite. Plantains– also good and cooked well. No complaints :) Tortillas were corn so I was disappointed. I’m a flour tortilla girl… Though they were home made. Average pricing with a good variety of dishes. I’m not really sure if I would go back if I was back in town, but worth a try just once!

No complaints here. We came here for lunch. I think this is my first time having Guatemalan food, but I wasn’t disappointed. The food was yummy. The setup was nice, they brought out 2 kinds of salsa, some black beans, chicken soup(I had to ask what it was since this was the first time I’ve ever been served this as a setup), and some kind of cream sauce with chips. They also brought us homemade tortillas upon request. These aren’t your typical tortillas, they are smaller and thicker and have a cornmeal taste to them, but they are good. I had the Pollo En Crema which was divine. The chicken was falling-off-the-bone moist. I’m not a fan of the Russian salad that was served with it, but I have an aversion to mayonnaise. I also have a selection of specialty drinks, including Horchata and some others I can’t remember the name of. They brought us samples upon request so we could try them before ordering. I have had Horchata before but not the other drinks so it was nice they let us sample them. The décor was modern and nice but comfortable. Our waiter was super friendly and knowledgable about the menu and willing to answer any questions.

I was very impressed with Chiltepes! We went on a Sunday evening around 5 o’clock and there was actually a decent amount of people in there, so it’s good to see they are doing well. I had a cucumberita and the pupusas, which are homemade tortillas stuffed with pork, beans or cheese, or a mixture(what I got). They were served with coleslaw and a sort of salsa/hot sauce on the side. My boyfriend had the bistec, which looked to be sliced steak in a tomato sauce/marinade that came with rice and black beans. Everything was so good. I’d had pupusas at a friend’s baby shower a while back, and the ones at Chiltepes seemed authentic and had more filling than the ones I’d had before, which was a plus in my book. I’m usually not a big coleslaw fan, but the pupusas were perfect paired with the slaw and salsa, and I even added some avocado, which cooled down the spicy factor a little bit. I am from Oklahoma so I do love my Tex-Mex, but I also love some good, authentic fare, and it can be rare in this area. I will most definitely be back to Chiltepes and would recommend it to anyone!

For those of us who live for Guatemalan breakfast foods, the opening of @ChiltepesOKC means we could eat Guatemalan for every meal if we desired! I desperately needed to be able to eat Guatemalan for dinner! I’ve been so excited to try it, and was surprised and happy to stumble down to Live on the Plaza on Friday and find it open a day ahead of the previously published date. So happy they were open and busy on a Plaza Friday. So busy, in fact, that our hostess decided to also be our server. She did a wonderful, enthusiastic job though I’m sure it was her first time waiting tables. Chips and queso, along with a black bean sauce were served, and were delicious, and so were the margaritas. However, based on their size, I’m not sure they’re going to be able to keep them at $ 7-$ 9 each as the glasses were pretty small and mostly ice. I ordered the bistec, which was very good and came with black beans and rice in a nice presentation, along with beautiful, fluffy Guatemalan tortillas. The tortillas were so good, and thick and filling, this meal could easily have been split between two people, which would save us money to spend on margaritas! I can’t wait to come back here and try more wonderful food and drinks. Congratulations to the owners and staff — this is a wonderfully diverse and fun addition to the delightful district!
