We had such an incredible experience at this restaurant! Not only were all of the entrées, desserts and drinks great, but our service was wonderful as well. The owner came to talk to us, and was extremely welcoming and friendly. We would recommend this restaurant to everyone! –The Medford Family Houston, TX

Very good food. A little quiet which is a shame. Service was excellent, Katie, was very attentive. Ambiance was great, nicely decorated. It should be busier with the quality. If you are not sure take a shot, it’s worth it.

Did dinner with my dad and two boys on a Saturday night and can honestly not tell you what was worse, the service or food. Both were atrocious. The waitress did not bring water until the third request. Drinks took forever, the food way longer than that. When asked about it, the server said they got slammed, but more than half the tables were empty and this was Saturday night when you would think staffing would be full. I looked around and no tables were being served well — lots of absent looks into space. And then the food arrived. The squash soup and octopus with arugula were«specials.» The octopus was rubber. The soup bland. One of my sons had shrimp that was dry. The meatballs lacked seasoning. The wait staff was not attentive. Really, I left the restaurant with what was like a burned rubber taste in my mouth. I have NEVER previously left a Unilocal review, but felt compelled to do so here because the food and service were just that bad.

My husband and I went last night for a FABULOUS dinner of chicken saltimbocca, chicken piccata, and bruschetta. We had great service and it was a lovely atmosphere. They also have a great wine selection. I have been here a handful of times in the past, and will absolutely be back again!

I haven’t been to Stella Luna in a few years, so I am going to comment on my time then(family members have gone to the restaurant since I have, so I am including what they told me). I went to Stella Luna on a few dates, on the first birthday that I celebrated after I moved up to the Oneonta area from NYC, and when I wanted a taste of real Italian food(that I didn’t feel like cooking at home). Everything was wonderful. They had a very knowledgable staff on the food preparation(I am used to how my Italian family and I make certain dishes), the staff also was great at pairing wines(and beer for one date of mine) with our food. Recently, my father and a group of his friends went to Stella Luna, and we’re told that the owners wife made the tiramisu(which my father had several times before and loved) but this time he took one bite and spit it out. The server called the owners relative over(the owner was not there that night due to a family tragedy), and that person said that it was made by the wife. He offered to give my father something to replace it, but my father said he was no longer in the mood. Then he found out, from another worker there, that the wife had not made the tiramisu, but they bought it from a bakery. My father would have rather been told that it was not made in house, because he was expecting the fabulous dessert he had eaten before. I did have the brick oven pizza from Stella Luna, to take home, a few months ago, and it was great. It was more like a focaccia, which I expected, seeing other people’s orders. It tasted like my grandmother had made it. Bellissimo! I ate the entire thing. I would recommend trying this restaurant out. It is not expensive, but the staff and the food, makes you feel as though you are dining at the restaurant«Butter» in Manhattan.

My review and the response from the owners. Its a wonder why 25% of their review on Trip Advisor are from Terrible, poor to average. Their way of promoting good business is to insult their guest. My review: «Not sure what happened to my original review but if it will save one family a terrible experience then it bares repeating. My Best friend of more than 18 years and his wonderful family wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday at the restaurant of his choosing. He had celebrated there before and had a wonderful experience. Our experience started with being crammed in a room not comfortable. 25 of us crammed into a room clearly not meant for that many people. We had several people who were supposed to be there that night and didnt make it so you got to wonder if they were going to cram all of us in that room??? Those of us who had steak got a sliver piece of rib-eye not fit for a child let alone a 48 year old Chef! The Chicken dish didnt even have a vegetable on it. After making several complaints about the dinner we decided to move on to dessert. One of Phil’s daughter who made the arrangements also ordered the dessert which was one of Phil’s favorites a brownie. Out came out a quarter sheet of a box mix brownie(Retails at Price Chopper for $ 1.88) It is possible that they used two boxes but it wasnt very good and for $ 60 bucks you would thought they would have written«Happy Birthday» on the cake. Maybe it wasnt ordered that way but the daughter who arranged this event was sick and could not make it to make sure we got what she ordered. After complaining to the owner/manager on duty did nothing about our bad food and blamed it on her brother who was the Chef du Jour who never came out to make sure we were happy. The did however have no problem taking the more than $ 600 that was spent on dinner that night not including drinks purchased at the bar. If it wasnt for the great company with family and friends it would have been a disastrous evening that is still stinging after all these months. Their Response HarmonyCane, Owner at Stella Luna Ristorante, responded to this review, 4 days ago You are not sure what happened to your first review ??? I think Tripadvisor was smart enough not to publish it for the same content this one has in it, a lot of B.S. I too have hesitated to respond and have nothing to say to your«new» review. This too is full of B.S. No matter, you are a «CHEF», and we bow to you, there are NO chefs at Stella Luna, only cooks and my brother and I have been in the restaurant business since 1972, do the math… that’s almost 43 years of cooking. Almost as long as you’ve been alive.

My wife and I enjoyed our experience very much. Such a beautiful place, remodeled from an old train station. We both had the pasta specials, and they were great. Price was reasonable, and the waitress was wonderful. They had a nice selection of wines for only $ 20 per bottle. Had an after dinner drink at the bar, and the bartender was friendly. Will go there again next time We’re in town.

We had a party of 24 for dinner, wine and desert – served family style – an hour before they opened for dinner. The service was excellent, the food was VERY good(salad, spaghetti & meatballs, penne with meat sauce, canolli’s for desert; several bottles of wine… Foti’s bread… the owner Vinnie was very nice and friendly with everyone. I would go back for dinner if only I didn’t live in NYC.

Great food and excellent service. Friendly owner came over to chat. My pasta with shrimp was New York City excellent. The marinara sauce was fresh and great. With two others who really enjoyed their meals. Homemade desserts all looked great but only ordered one. Would go back next time I am in the area for sure.

Bad Italian food The pros: nice wine glasses; great crusty baguette. The cons: everything else. Totally flavorless, limp greasy salad. My salad with crumbly blue had a generous heaped teaspoon of cheese. Two mealy eggplant rollatinis with watery spaghetti marinara: I swear I’ve seen more attractive plates of food in the high school cafeteria. The pasta was totally cheap, from a box stuff, and there was a small lake of water at the bottom of the bowl. $ 16. RIDICULOUS.

Great service and solid Italian standards. Four stars for this restaurant in oneonta, it’s a small town and this is a comfortable place with good food. Not big city standards, but reliably good. Fresh bread, kid and adult options.

Have been here numerous times. I am a BIG Unilocal follower. Food and service were always excellent. Unfortunately upon recent visit(9⁄13) has new waitress staff that brings something to be desired. One of our favorite waitresses left and took with her that dining experience that truly made the difference. A bit more staff training on attentiveness, and attitude towards customers, needs to be done to bring back that charm and exceptional dining experience that we had grown accustomed to. Food is still very good. Owner is always a gem to talk to.

$ 29 for a 12 ounce New York Strip steak is overpriced. My Wife and I ran up a $ 65 bill and thought the meal was ok. Nothing spectacular. The music was positively the most cheesy and dreadful we’ve ever heard.
