Average is the overall theme of the restaurant. The places only saving grace is theor famous«homemade» pie that people travel miles to get, which tastes suspiciously exactly like the kind SYSCO sells. Hmmm. That SYSCO truck is here all the time… I wonder… I guess if you add whipped crème it’s homemade?

We have stopped here for breakfast every year when returning from our annual fishing trip on the north coast. This is good old fashioned diner food at it’s finest, and has the atmosphere to match. If you’re counting calories or concerned about cholesterol, this is not the place for you. But if you want good old fashioned country cooking, don’t pass this up.

I wrote a long detailed review, and then started to feel guilty. I’m all for small local businesses I know it’s hard for them to survive especially in the off-season. So I erased my detailed very critical review. However there’s also a concern for potential customer, therefore, I will simply say this. I hear their pies are excellent I’ve never tried one. I have eaten here four times, Each time dissatisfied but thinking another menu item may be better. After four times I’ve never walked away satisfied With the value or the quality of the food.

Best roadside breakfast this side of the lost coast. Don’t let the appearance fool you, worth a poke. They treat you right & put lots of care into their home cooking. Been here many times during long drives & always makes for a great morale boost.

One of my wife’s and my favorite stops in Humboldt County. Great place to pull over on your way north or on your way south after a few days in the forest. The pie is to die for!

We headed up to see the Redwoods and needed to find a place for dinner when we stumbled across this little restaurant. Friendly people, great customer service and great food. We liked it so much that after staying the night in a nearby RV park, we decided to go for breakfast. That topped the cake! Excellent food! We would definitely stop there again if we are up that way! Thanks!

After spending the night sleeping in my car because every motel was booked up, I opened my eyes to see a squad car parked behind me. Thankfully they didn’t ticket me for sleeping in my car but drove off once I started moving. With that little wake up call, I headed into town to load up on calories while I waited for the park visitor center to open up. A short drive to the café and what you see is a typical diner, looking«rustic», no frills kind of place. Just the perfect greasy spoon you need before you spend the weekend hiking in the redwoods. I was told they made their biscuits in house so that was a must have. Biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage, and hash browns, what’s not to like? I appreciate that they made the eggs with butter and the biscuits were moist, soft, and perfect little pillows to go with the gravy. For a diner, expectations are pretty low and they were on point with everything for me. Cheap, filling, tasty, and quick. What’s not to like?

Perfect for what it is — a greasy spoon diner. We came here for breakfast after staying at the motel and it was exactly what we needed — a quick coffee and omelette. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. It’s about as classic of a diner as you’ll get which we loved.

MOTELREVIEW: We stayed here because we wanted to visit Redwoods National Park. After our experience, I would consider staying in Klamath or Crescent City. Orick is extremely small town with no other real motel option. Half of the businesses are closed down and all other motels I saw looked like they were straight out of a horror movie. The Palm Motel was decent. The keepers were a nice older couple but they were as attentive as I would have liked. In the three days we were there, our towels were never changed, our beds were never made and we were never given extra soap/shampoo. There was no AC in the room and we had to rely on open windows to cool the room down. The windows had no screens and behind our room there were some mobile homes. You basically had to choose between having fresh air and having someone see your bum as you used the toilet… not an ideal situation. The internet connectivity was nonexistent. If you were staying there on business you would not be able to get anything done. The TV had about four channels total. There was some issues with the floor(pertaining to entire town of Orick) the floor was literally tilted SIDEWAYS. I felt it when I slept, I felt it when I peed. I did not feel the motel was worth what we paid. The café is one of two places you can eat in Orick and being that we were staying there, we had a few meals here. Breakfast and lunch were pretty yummy but overpriced. Again, the owners make you overpay because they have a monopoly on Orick. The town was beautiful and the people were pretty pleasant. It is lovely to pass through and very close to some nice trails like Ladybird trail and Fern Canyon. I would not suggest staying here longer than a night or two. FYI, the café closes at 8 pm !

The Pie is amazing! Stephanie(From Chicago) was very nice. She was down to earth and pleasant even with our large party of 12. If your on the 101 going through Orick, California, The Palm Café is a must. The décor is very eclectic!

There is only powdered creamer for your coffee. That should be a good indication to expect good olé Americana food. Palm Café is a plain, old-fashioned diner with an ample breakfast choice, kind of divey due to the passage of time. They have the plain Columbian coffee, watery like from the time before Starbucks. The servings are definitely large enough. We enjoyed real eggs(it was no longer an omelette by the time she brought it to our table), flavoured well, nice fluffy home-made pancakes, home-made raspberry jam and apple butter, and home-made biscuits with gravy. Everything was seasoned perfectly for us, no need to add salt. At night we returned due to the pie reputation we had read. Personally I was disappointed, my son liked it. We both had chocolate pie which tasted more like a stiffer version of chocolate pudding with a stiffer version of Cool Whip on top: not real whipped cream. Too large a portion for me.

I love me a good ol’ greasy spoon, and this one fits the bill! I had a pretty hefty omelet. It wasn’t just large, but quite good… lots of meat & cheese without being terribly greasy. My girlfriend had some«healthy» breakfast item, but it was too big for her to complete. I finished hers as well. We took a few bacon scraps out to our four legged child and hit the store up across the way for some cupcakes and jerky. I suppose it’s a seasonal issue… but we were only lead here by sheer virtue of everything north of here(nearly to OR.) being closed. Good: –location. Easy to spot when you’re questing for food –price –portion size.(Medium-large) –service Bad: –too far from Eugene, OR. to eat here often.

Great breakfast. Try the home made blackberry jam. Maybe not the very best ever but affordable and tasty road stop — or in this case good breakfast after 5 days hiking the redwoods.

We stopped by specifically because awkward Unilocal reviews. I think there this interesting cultural push-pull between casual passerby from Redwood traffic, locals and diehards for local business. I fall in category 1 and 3. This place is awesome for being what it is, even if they have to deal with yuppies who didn’t plan to skip it for being a local«divey» diner(I mean this in the most respectable way). You want 5 star dining? Pack a damn picnic and cooler, you pretentious urbanites! lol. Trinidad and Arcata are 30 — 60 minutes away. That said, we stopped by for a slice of lemon meringue after a day trip. The service was crap, and got the San Francisco rate on a slice(maybe I am used to Michigan prices), but it was sweet and delicious. Keep making those pies!
