Worse than Denny’s. We are staying at the Best Western Black Plus and they offer $ 5 off coupons per hotel guests and they are literally located 5 feets from each other… so we decided to give it a try. The moment we walked in, the waitress stared at me up and down and kept starinng at me in a dirty way. I ordered a salad, specifically requesting dressing on the side, but was given with salad drenched with dressing. Not to mention, I think they freeze their tomatoes and potatoes because when I bit into it, the tomato was icy cold and the potatoes were so hard and dry. To make matters worse, she slammed our plates in front of us. Bottom line, avoid it.

First of all California Highway Patrol eats here in mass, so it’s gotta be good right? All food is prefared fresh, no canned food here. I initially thought prices were high for a diner but remembered I was in California and when food showed up, portions were huge. Fantastic bacon, 1 egg(which covered half the plate), bottomless coffee and fresh fruit all made it hard to clean my plate. Would recommend and return.

Stopped by here on our way up the coast. Didn’t order much, but what we had was delicious. VERY good french fries… perfect flavor and texture. Yum. My boyfriend also got a bacon cheeseburger and really enjoyed it. By the way, the portions are humongous. I should have taken a picture of my boyfriend’s order of chili cheese fries because it was just ridiculous. Wow! Want to come back for breakfast and try their homemade biscuits!

Food was delicious, portions are humongous. Nice, clean, friendly atmosphere. Prices worth it for amount of food you get!

The food was great but our server was just horrible! There busser was so much nicer than she was. We had a 4yr old with us and not once did our server ask what our little one wanted to eat or drink. And she decided to bring out our check even before our food was out!

Call Chef Robert Irvine, stat! Margie’s Diner needs a makeover of everything — the interior space, the menu, the prices, the servers’ attitudes — the whole enchilada! Yes, the portions are huge. But most guests don’t need nearly that amount of calories in one sitting! The prices are crazy high, especially for a coffee shop /diner. As another reviewer stated, everything tastes like it comes out of cans, not freshly created. Most sandwiches and burgers are in the $ 15 range. Really? For Smart & Final canned goods? Dear Hubby and I split an open faced turkey sandwich. The only nod to a fruit or vegetable(other than starchy mashed potatoes) was a tiny cup of canned cranberry sauce. The gravy was on the salty side. Our server was barely cordial at all. Seemed to hate her job. The bus boy was the best thing about the place. The carpeted floor had various pieces of paper sprinkled on it — looked like the straw wrappers which no one was picking up. The bathroom felt like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long while. Maybe 1990? Parking lot has limited spaces. Do yourself a favor and plan on spending your bucks somewhere else.

Food is good, as always. Server was friendly and didn’t rush you even though it seemed like she was the only one here. Coffee could have been fresher but good. I would have given it 10 stars, but as soon as you walked in, a foul sewer smell. I would have left but there was enough circulation. Why can’t the owners smell it? For the prices they charge, they should be on this.

Messed up my order. Took a long time to remedy the problem. Everyone else at table was finished with their entrees before my corrected order was ready. Did not offer to comp anything. Nothing. Charged full price for their mistake. Overall lousy experience. $ 15 for a patty melt.

This has been a favorite of mine since I moved to California and began taking vacations to the Central Coast. Two things everyone needs to know about Margie’s: 1) the portions are huge, so you get what you pay for and be prepared to take some home. 2) they have THEBEST onion rings around. This visit I got the mushroom burger, with onion rings of course. The burger was huge and very tasty. They put so many mushrooms on it, full mushrooms, that I can to take 70% off and then I could eat it like a burger. I love that, now I had a side of mushrooms too! The onion rings did not disappoint, they were huge, hot, and full of flavor. They batter their own rings and you can see the spices in the batter. I’m not sure exactly what they use but it is so good. The only downfall to Margie’s is they never seem to have enough servers so it can be a little slow. So don’t take it out on the server when leaving your tip. It’s managements fault. Go here and get the onion rings!

Unreal amount of food for breakfast, even when you try the«light» items on the menu. This place can get really crowded with locals on the weekends for breakfast and the staff tries their best to keep up. REALLYGOODCOFFEE. When we stayed at the Best Western where Margie’s is attached, they gave us $ 5 coupons credit for breakfast. Made a good meal a bit better.

How do I even begin with how terrible Margies was when I was there yesterday. I came in with a group of 5 others and we have never had a more negative experience at any other restaurant. Our waitress was impatient with us as we were ordering, didn’t write some of the orders correctly and then ignored us until he brought the bill. The French dip sandwich was nothing to brag about. It was a few thin slices of unflavored roast beef slapped between a plain bun and thrown on the plate. We needed refills on drinks and finally gave up after searching for our waitress with no luck. When we did finally see the waitress again she tossed the bills on the table and walked away. When we added up one bill she had added $ 12 in somewhere but it was not written down. When going up to pay the bill they reluctantly changed the price to what it should have been so we were finally ready to pay. We brought in a gift card that we had purchased a few months prior and they didn’t want to accept it. The owner, Margie, came out finally to see what was wrong and she told us that they wouldn’t honor the gift card. Needless to say, none of us have ever walked out of a restaurant without tipping but this meal wasn’t even worth the menu price. We will NEVER be back.

Never have I ever been treated so poorly! First our waitress was so inattentive she took our order dropped off the food and we didn’t see her again until she dropped off the ticket. Never once asked how we were or if we wanted a refill of drink when my Coke was clearly empty. Second my husband and I split a meal and I asked if we could change the toast to a biscuit and a side of gravy. We were not told that you couldn’t do that. So we were given plain toast with our meal and a full order of biscuits and gravy. My brother in laws ticket was $ 12 off and was charged wrong. Then Margie the owner would not accept the gift card he had when was to Margies Dinner. We will never come back her again. There are much better restaurants in this area.

Uses«Styrofoam» for take-out. SLO City offered a one-year extension(deadline was NOV1) to use Polystyrene(«Styrofoam») as take-out containers in their business if they could prove that they had a «hardship to find alternatives that exceeded 15% of their costs». Margie’s Diner — is the only business in SLO that applied for this extension — and got it! If the portions were normal, prices could be more affordable, and patrons won’t walk out the door with polluting styrofoam and adding to the obesity of America.

I have never seen as big a breakfast they serve anywhere. Luckily I had been pre warned by my brother as to the size so we split one, and guess what? It was still too much to finish between both of us. We ordered the avocado cheese mushroom omelette and it came out the other side of gargantuous! While it was tasty, it was definitely on the greasy side. The service was quick and efficient. The surroundings are much what you would expect for a diner. If you’re looking for ambiance this is not the place, but if you’re hungry and ready to dive into a meal that can last for the day this is the place. Our omelette was about $ 14 but split between two of us it was a bargain. Located next to the Best Western at Hwy 46 and 101.

5 stars is for service. The service from the host to the bus boy is great. The food is solid. It gets crowded after 9a since the $ 5 off coupons at the nearby hotels expire at 10a so plan ahead since parking is limited.

Located next door to the Best Western Plus sits Margie’s Dinner. It has an old town look and feel about it and the portions they serve are huge. The foods taste and quality are average but, in Margie’s defense I understand why. If you take a look around while dining, you’ll probably see two things. One will be lots of locals and the other will be the older age of those same locals. If your cooking for those who may have health issues, the last thing you want to serve them is something too salty or overloaded with fats.

We got a recommendation to come here and it was a good one. The portions are huge and food is fresh. It is close to the 46 so you can get it coming or going as the breakfast is huge too.

«Nice Breakfast« My wife and I visited Margie’s Diner in Paso Robles, CA, to have breakfast. The server and staff were very nice, and the breakfast had huge portions. We loved the crunchy potato’s and the Pancake was very light, although it was huge. The Bacon Margie’s uses has a wonderful smoky flavor to it. If you are hungry and want a old school breakfast give Margie’s Diner at try.

If you’re heading to Margie’s for breakfast – in visiting San Luis Obispo or Paso Robles, this diner’s a must – I hope you’re hungry. She features an omelette – loaded with cheese(for me, make it Swiss), mushrooms, and avocados – that when sided with home-fried potatoes and your choice of toast(or biscuits & gravy), is nothing short of delicious. However, there’s one problem: I never finish. It’s too much food. But it’s great to share! My review, I’m sorry to say, doesn’t extend beyond the Avocado/Cheese/Mushroom Omelette($ 13.50), as I’ve never ordered anything else – whenever heading north, I’ve a one-track, sautéed-mushroom mind – so for anything else on the menu, I can’t vouch. Nevertheless, Margie’s does boast making some of the«best hamburgers served anywhere.» That’s pretty bold, Margie – enough so that I’m interested in eventually adding one of your builds to my «Quest for the Best Burger» list. For one of your«Avocado Grottos» or «Mushroom Burgers,» we’ll see next time.(It’ll probably be sooner than later.) Meanwhile, before embarking upon another long day of wine tasting – Peachy Canyon, anyone? – I’ll keep returning for, and definitely sharing, my favorite Paso breakfast.
