Via Vega Vineyards

We stumbled on this gem of a winery after taking the tour of the Wolf rescue facility across the street while we were out on a bike ride. The wolves and hybrids are really interesting to see and learn about… but Via Vega Winery is a real treat.
We got there about a half hour before closing on a hot day… a small tour bus had just left with a load of obnoxious tourists who had their fill before they got to Via Vega… and then there were only the other people left in the tasting room. It was like a giant sigh of relief for everyone… the winemaker Larry and his wife never skipped a beat. They served excellent wines told great stories and showed us around.
Larry is a huge SF Giants fan and had the game going on a huge projection screen tv above front bar. After a while he took us to the bottling building to see his collection of banners and other memorabilia. Then back to the tasting room for more stories and beat wine. He is a great story teller and an even better winemaker… and a nice guy. He even offered to personally drive us and our bikes back to where we were staying. Talk about service!
Above all they are fantastic people… and it is truly like they are welcoming you into their home. The fact that they make great wine is the icing on the cake.

Cool looking place, quite unique compared to its commercial neighbor J Lore. There is a «Giant» screen going and a beer tap.

This is the best winery in Paso Robles. Funky tasting room filled with eye candy and a welcoming vibe. Family friendly service, and delicious red wines are consistently delivered every time. Great conversation from the wine maker who never makes you feel rushed. I learn something new every time I stop in. Make this a destination on your next wine tour you won’t regret it.

This small, family run winery and vineyard is one not to be missed. As they’re not part of some huge multinational corporate behemoth who value quantity over quality, they are able to make amazing, small batch wines. Besides producing some absolutely outstanding wines, their passion for wine, customer service (and life) are unparalleled. I almost hesitate to use the word «customer service «as they treat you like you’re family (in a good way…), not just a potential sale. Their knowledge is vast which they readily share, making the experience both fun and extremely informative.
Bottom line, this winery, and the exceptionally good wines they produce shouldn’t be missed!

Took a group of friends here on June 20^th. It was our 4^th and final stop of the day. They closed at 4 PM we got there at 4:06 PM. I believe the wife’s name is April and the winemaker Larry.
April let us in and Larry started talking. He is one of those passionate winemakers that loves talking about wine and life in general. I asked if they char the barrels to give it that smoky rich texture and flavor. he brought us over to the barrels and explained to us the process. 20 minutes later he was still talking about the process and I no longer felt like they were in a rush to close shop. It was like winning the GOLDEN ticket and going up to meet WILLY WONKA.
He showed us the barrel room where the stuff is made. He even poured wine that he was about to bottle out of the barrels. I have never had a tasting experience like this before. This will probably be my favorite tasting room of all time as a result of not only great friendly people but they are making wine but the overall quality of the wine would bring me back again. I got a few bottles of an AMAZING MALBEC! I think the other one I got was called 3 amigos. I need to double check my bottles. I will bust these open on the 4^th of July weekend. If you are a San Francisco GIANTS fan you should tell Larry. He’s a true fan. In fact he had the game projected on the wall next to the hanging skeletons. Make this place one of your stops next Paso Robles trip.
Also they never pushed their wine club on anyone. I love it when it doesn’t seem like a big sales pitch. Some of these bigger corporate wineries try selling you memberships. This place is home grown family run and have amazing wines.

Loved this place. I was slightly apprehensive approaching the place, but our group ended up spending 90 minutes here. The owner/​wine maker was pouring, and we each left with a case. We didnt come with the intention to splurge, but the wines were fantastic and the price point was unbelievable. This seems to be a hidden gem. 100% recommend!

Larry is an amazing guy!!! So knowledgeable and hilarious! One of the coolest stops you’ll make! Small and layed back! A must go!!!

Awesome, family friendly winery. Delicious reds and great conversation await you in the fun and unpretentious tasting room. We are recent transplants to the paso area and have sampled many tasting rooms since moving to the central coast. We keep coming back to Via Vega and have had nothing but positive experiences here. Highest recommendation!

This was the coolest winery that we stumbled upon. Larry, the owner & wine maker was fun to talk to. He’s a San Francisco Giants fan but we forgave him because he was so nice. He worked for the big wineries in the area but eventually decided to make his own wine. He gave us a tour and we ended up buying a case of the Los Amigos since we liked it & it was cheaper by the dozen. We’d like to come back when he’s throwing a BBQ.

Stopped in on Friday and really enjoyed this place. Larry was very funny and informative and it is well worth a stop in to try and buy the wines.
The tasting fee is $ 5.00 and waived on purchase which we got a bottle of the Bullpen Red which is 85% Cabernet Franc, 9.5% Merlot and 5.5% Aglianico for around $ 20 something… can’t remember but around there.
Larry had too many funny stories so I just handed him my credit card… hmmm, better check it… lol. Go there and enjoy.

This place is amazing! We happened upon it by searching for wineries nearby and read all the rave reviews on Unilocal.
We were greeted by Sally the dachshund and Larry the owner/​winemaker. Larry is super passionate about the wines he makes, and extremely informative, but in a down to earth way. All the wines we tasted were delightful, the atmosphere was fun, and family oriented, we even had the privilege of hearing a live musical performance from his daughter whom he endearingly calls «Miss Ella». We joined the Bullpen wine club and now enjoy a 35% discount on our wine purchases! If you’re in Paso, this place is a must!

Via Vega is a must stop when you’re in the Paso area. The winemaker Larry Gomez is a Fresno State grad, go Bulldogs! He’s the kind of guy that you just like to hang around with and listen to him talk about the wine in a very non-​pretentious way. Great reds, my friend and I split a case of his Tres Amigos red blend.

I went on a wine tour on my birthday, and after two «Meh» stops we were brought to this jewel. This winery takes the pretension out of wine tasting. Larry is informative and funny in his presentation. He gave my group a tour of the winery, which is also a small production facility! He bottles in house! As for the wine, WOW! Los Amigos and the Bullpen were among my favorites. This is by far my favorite winery out of my visits from Napa to Santa Ynez.

We loved this place! Larry is down to earth and makes great wine. We joined his wine club, the wine was worth it!

Before I begin, if you are headed to Via Vega be sure to not pass it! They have a zoo right next door and the animals distracted us and we drove right past it! But turned around and found it, thankfully! Not only is the wine great the atmosphere is perfect for couples, families (kids included) or large groups. I first noticed the small sign on my way to another winery last September. Unfortunately they were closed but the little sign caught my eye and I made sure to check to see if it was open this time around. It was and we had a WONDERFUL time! The winemakers are very knowledgeable and fun. I bought a bottle of their desert wine but made sure to join their Bullpen Wine Club. We stayed for hours chatting and tasting and looking around. They also allow dogs which is always a bonus for us. The owners are a husband wife duo and their children (who are also wonderful). You appreciate the vino that much more knowing so much love goes into making it. If you want good wine and great company — check out Via Vega! We can’t wait to go back to pick up our shipment in the fall!

I am a wine connoisseur. I visited and tasted in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Terra Bella, Techapi, Malibu, and Temecula. By far Via Vega is still my #1 favorite place!
Larry Gomez who is the winemaker and owner of this place along with his wife miss April who is always so sweet and nice. Larry has worked many years with big corporate vineyards with his last stop at the most famous J Lohr. Larry and his wife April are very family orientated people. If you bring your kids Larry will put on a movie for them so you can wine taste with no problem. So for me and others it is very easy to fall in love with the Gomez family and the Via Vega Wine!
The Wine is the best that I have ever tasted in ALL OF MY tasting throughout California or any other area. They have all reds and a couple of award winning ports! He has introduce me to one of my favorite grape which is Aglianco and it is amazing! He also has a CAB that is great, Merlot that is terrfic, Blends that are so smooth, Malbec that you have never tasted before, and many others that will at worst score 4 out of 5.
I have visited Paso 5 times which the area alone to me is my favorite because of the wonderful reds and the great hospitality. So far I have never missed a time yet of not visiting Via Vega. Via Vega customer service to me is an A+. Every time that I have came Larry is always behind the bar finding a spot for me and my guest. My glass has always had some goodness with a great story. He always answers my questions with more than just an answer but wonderful wisdom. He has always taken me and any guest to the back to taste out of his barrels or steal which is such a great experience. In all Larry to me is a genius and very knowledgeable about wine. He will go in great lengths to please everyone for their palate. I have seen this many of times. Now that I am thinking about it every time that I have visited everyone has always bought at least bottle or 2! I am also a wine member of this wonderful place along with 4 other of my friends and/​or family that I have taken throughout the years.
In summary Paso is the best area to be in to wine taste. If you want to go to the BEST stop at VIA VEGA because the wine and customer service is extraordinary!
P. S. Larry and his family has been so awesome to watch them grow. He is also a great father and a husband. Every time I stop on by we always talk about family and life in general. It just shows you of how we are all connected and that it is because of the vine.

This place doesn’t need another glowing review, but I am going to give it one anyways! This place is so laid back and welcoming and the wines are delicious. The owner and his wife are so wonderful and you can tell they really love what they do. *They only do reds, so if you are a white lover, keep that in mind. *
We joined the Bullpen wine club here, and look forward to every shipment! I really like that they give you an affordable option for 6 bottles twice yearly.
Definitely a must see in the Paso area!

Great wine. Fun atmosphere. A must visit when on the east side.

We had a great time wine tasting with the owner and winemaker Larry and his wife, April. They are a small production winery with the entire facility on site. Tasting is done in their barrel and case storage room. The winery and bottling line is on site and you are surrounded by vineyards. My favorites were the syrah and can franc.
