Sonny’s BBQ

All you can eat barbq chip was amazingly cooked well and fresh, mac & ch a little dry. Peach cobbler was very tasty. Beef. Lean brisket, very good. Service was great. Not much to the place, you will surely walk out full. Salad bar needs a change.

My family and I have ordered take out here twice now. Each time the portions have been awful and a rip off.
I’m not usually one to complain but it is 100% unacceptable to take someone’s money and not provide a full meal.
Embarrassing. Won’t be back

I ordered take out, on Valentines Day, for my wife, our son and myself. The order consisted of the following:
1 ea. Carolina BBQ Burger with the $ 2.00 up-​size for fires and a drink. (I am from NC)
1 ea. Cup of Brunswick Stew — another NC staple
2 ea Pitmaster’s Pride Burger — consisting of the following: «Crispy bacon, smoked sausage and pulled pork piled high on a juicy burger patty seasoned with our brisket rub and fire-​grilled to your liking. Topped with cheddar, onion straws and a drizzle of Sweet BBQ sauce. Served with a pile of crinkle-​cut fries.»

So the Brunswick Stew was a gooey mess. The Manager On Duty — «Cody» told me that they order it in pouches and heat it up in the kitchen.
Both hamburgers came WITHOUT SAUSAGE, WITHOUT ONION STRAWS, WITHOUT BBQ SAUCE and only 2 strips of bacon. My wife insisted that it was the driest burger she has ever eaten!!!
I asked for my money back, but «Cody» stated that all he could do was to give me my order again, anytime I liked. And that my name and my order would be in their computer.
I called today to give them a second chance. .. the manager that came on stated that all I was getting «for free» was 2 burgers.
Keep your God damned hamburgers. This isn’t about getting ANYTHING fro free. It is about correcting a major mistake on an order…guess they don’t teach customer service over at Sonny’s BBQ
I am out $ 40.00. Don’t waste your money or your time on this dump!

Cornbread was amazing.
Corn was on point.
Bake potato lacked the loaded options: sour cream, butter and cheese… I had to ask for all of it and didn’t get the cheese lol.
Sonny’s sampler was so much food, delicious.

Their pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches are the best I’ve had in Pensacola! The baked beans were amazing too — some of the best! Can’t wait to try more of their foods!

Great food all the way around. Our server Kristen was absolutely attentive & friendly so be sure to ask for her when you get there. The Baby Backs were to die for.

Just picked up a large carry out order. We had the nicest service ever. Everything was ready and two girls helped us get everything to the car and we’re just incredibly pleasant.

food was good, we went for a spirit nite for an elementary school. We had a party of 11 and we had never been there bf and will probably never go back. 25% of the bill was to go to the school, I had to go home to bring back the flyer that only covered one of the 4 bills (between our party of 11). The schools work hard to raise money and I felt like Sonny’s made it very difficult process. I would not support Sonny’s, they got a lot of business and didn’t hold their end of the deal.

Great tater salad and cole slaw. The garlic bread was probably good, but I’ve discovered that I don’t like garlic bread, so my opinion is worthless there. The pulled pork was good; the sliced beef was too fatty. Service was excellent. Nice clean environment. I’ll go back because I love barbecue.

Excellent BBQ but recommend it on the Texas toast. The bun is okay. Bring your check book or visa though cause it’s expensive. I’ll eat it again even though it’s high priced. Good size servings.

I first went to Sonny’s when I was a young child. I haven’t been here in couple years and it is still the best barbecue I’ve had. They have a great selection of barbecue as always. They have a great amount of food for all sort of people, including large groups.

Ansolutely the best barbecue in Pensacola. I stop there at least once a week to get a sandwich to take home. The price is great and the food is mouthwatering. The Sweet Carolina pulled pork is the best pulled pork I’ve ever had! By far.

Not to sound like a BBQ snob but I was definitely not impressed. I had just landed in Pensacola and was starving for lunch when I drove past Sonny’s and thought I’d give it a try.
I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich with cole slaw and beans as my sides. First off, the bun was too big and dry. If I get a chopped beef sandwich I want taste the meat, not a huge bun. Second, the meat was very dry and tasteless. This was around noon, so they should have had «fresh» brisket to serve, not something that had sat under a heat lamp for hours.
All in all, very disappointed with my sandwich. The server was very nice though!

Haven’t been here in awhile and their food was surprisingly good. The pulled pork was a little fatty but the sides were delicious. Service was great and prices are reasonable. We will be back.

I think personally it was some of the best bbq I have had. The food came out fast and our waitress was kind and courteous. Food is reasonable priced especially for the portions you receive. Next time im in Pensacola ill definitely go to Sonnys bbq again.

Coming from a state where BBQ is big (VA) I gotta tip my hat to Sonny. I’ve had two visits so far and both times the food was delicious and the service was great!
I haven’t tried all the offerings yet, but the pulled pork and the cornbread was wonderful.
I did have a wrong take out order that I didn’t discover until I arrived home, but the staff was very apologetic and made it right when I returned. It was during the busy lunch hour.
Hey, it happens. No harm, no foul. But it cost them a star :)

I just visited the drive through at your 9^th Ave location in Pensacola and I am more than just upset and disappointed. This meal is a complete joke! We picked up dinner for two, to receive 10 ribs, 3 MINI sides and 3 pieces of the soggiest french toast you have ever seen. To make matters worse the fries were not cooked and raw on the inside and the other two sides ice cold. Seriously, we just paid $ 23 for this joke! I will never dine at this location again and a «sorry, give us a try in the near future, generic response doesn’t cut it». There are too many options out there these days! We waited almost 20 minutes in the drive thru to receive the worst meal ever! The entire meal went in the garbage and we didn’t eat any of it. Ridiculous! I am not the only one who had this experience. Once you start researching, cold food and messed up orders seems to be the way they operate.

Decent service. Mediocre quality food. I suppose if you like cheap bbq then this is the place for you. I wouldnt say dont go just know what you’re getting into and dont expect super fancy food.

I have been eating at Sonny’s BBQ for over 40 years. Since they stopped using real smoke pits, Sonny’s quality of BBQ has gone down a lot during that time. However. I have found a few Sonny’s that remind me of tastes of the original Sonny’s in Gainesville and Jacksonville. This location is one of them. Great tasting ribs and pulled pork.

BBQ like you’d make it at home if you didn’t want to make the effort or take the time to do it right. It’s not *bad*, but it isn’t in the top 25% of BBQ that I’ve had. The pulled pork is more like meat from a crock pot roast. The ribs’ meat sticks to the bones, but is still tasty. The best thing about the place is the salad bar and the iced tea. And the staff, which are always competent and friendly. The new building is so much better than the old one, which was set up like a small ship’s dining room and lighted up like a surgical theater.

Great ribs. Good smoke and BBQ pulled pork. Sides are a bit weak, but hey you come for the meat!

It’s one of fav when we are in restricted budget, Saturdays Kids meals are free with purchase of an adult meal. When is fresh is great, but when is bad is really bad. their inconsistency made give them a 3 star rate because they just can’t get their act together.

Nothing special. The chicken is dry as is most of the meat you get there. Definitely a decent place to go if you want a relatively cheap meal. Service is quick and sometimes it is too quick. Our last visit our food was brought to the table before we could sit down from the salad bar.
