Mu Sool Won of Pflugerville is an excellent place for anyone looking to learn self-defense and/or get a good workout. Three years ago, my husband and I decided to try martial arts as a hobby/workout that we could do together. We tried several schools in the area and this was by far our favorite. I really enjoy the small family atmosphere and one-on-one attention. Most every class is lead and taught by the owner Kevin Anderson who is both knowledgeable and kind to me and my bad back. This school is very adaptable and the instructor is great at teaching to your level of comfort. My husband enjoys the intensity while I am a little more laid back. The monthly fee really can’t be beat for schools in this area and the testing fees are minimal compared to others. In addition, our daughter just joined the kids class this summer and is having a blast. She loves the fun atmosphere of the kids classes and I am confident that she is getting very important body movement skills through the fun games that they play. There is also a women’s self-defense class that I attend occasionally which is geared specifically for women and teenagers who would like to learn to protect themselves without committing to the Mu Sool Won belt system.

Let me preface this wall of text with: This school is wonderful. I’ve had an interest in traditional Martial Arts since my childhood, and with some years of Karate and Judo experience under my belt, determined now would be a great time to stop dilly dallying and dive back into it. One of my biggest concerns in my pursuit of a quality school was the persistence of belt factories and«McDojo’s» in the world of Martial Arts. Sniffing out a good school with instructors who want you to enjoy yourself, work hard, and develop real applicable skills is tough — and after meeting the owner and my current teacher, Kevin Anderson, I determined even though I’d never once heard of Mu Sool Won I had to give this school a go. Mu Sool Won is a comprehensive martial art that covers just about everything, from striking techniques to kicking, grappling, joint locks/breaks, pressure point manipulation, weapons(roughly 24 styles of weapons!), practical self defense and more. I figured, sure, I’ll go a couple times a week, get back in shape and learn a thing or two about defending myself … Turns out I go just about every day. It’s changed my life and exceeded all my expectations. Kwan Jahng Nim(Master) Kevin is a 5th degree black belt with over 20 years of experience in a variety of Martial Arts and it shows. He’s firm, fair, and has a passion for Martial Arts and sharing that experience/knowledge with others. He’s great with kids and you can’t help but smile watching him interact with the little guys/gals. Classes can be exhausting — if you can push yourself outside of your physical comfort zone and work through the pain, sweat and heavy breathing you will come out feeling both physically and mentally refreshed, every time. Unlike many schools, Kevin allows unlimited classes and encourages students to show up and train whenever they want. I show up for the Women’s Self Defense class to train on my own(or with others that show up) for example, and Kevin takes time out of his class to work with me in addition to showing the ladies how to teach would be attackers a lesson in humility. This school also has a sparring class every Wednesday — so if you find yourself wondering how to apply the skills you’ve learned in a competitive and realistic setting — this school has it. A Karate instructor in my ankle biting days once told me — In Martial Arts, it’s not the style that matters… after all, there are only so many ways to attack and defend the human body — What matters is finding a good school and a good teacher. I’ve developed a great deal of respect for Mu Sool Won, Kevin, and his school. I invite you to come and experience a few classes for yourself. See you there!
