Bas service, dirty utensils, waiting time to order takes 15 minutes even when very few customers are there and yea they ruined the South Indian coffee taste.

Food is ok but their service sucks big time. Every time we had call the waiter to ask if our food was ready or not. Then we had to call the waiter, and ask for water which is supposed to be already be there on each table. We ordered Sweet lassi and when it did not arrive, we asked them, what happened and they said, they are out of yogurt. Are you kidding me? We had told them to give us a Madras coffee at the end of our dinner and they forgot to serve that too. People who arrived after us were served way ahead of us. We will never go there again. I rather go to Venkatesh Bhavan.

Casual south indian vegetarian at reasonable price. Quality is OK. I might go back in couple months but not frequently for sure. Don’t bother trying their«Kalyana Sapatu», just not worth the price. Get regular meals instead.

While I waited for my food to go, I notice a mom with her toddler leaving the restaurant after looking through the take out menu. Her toddler was crying about wanting to eat. I realize she was homeless because I saw a small cardboard sign. I offer to pay for her meal and she accepted. When I told the cashier that I’ll pay for her meal, the cashier(I think he’s the owner/manager) says for humanity? I said yes. He insisted that her meal was on the house and welcome her in. He even gave her toddler mango lassi drink. Not only is the owner generous, the food(Marsala dosa) is very good. I’ll definitely come back again.

Their sambhar and chutney serving size is extremely small whether you dine-in or take out. Once I ordered 4 plates of idlis for take out(each plate has 3 idlis) and I requested extra sambhar. Even after that I found the quantity was insufficient I have seen many other customers also complain about such less quantity of sambhar and chutneys when I have gone for dine-ine. Hope they improve their service sizes.

Came here Saturday morning with the family for the breakfast. There were only 3 more customers. We had to wait 15 mins to place the order. They brought first dish after 30 mins of placing the order. Reminded them that we are waiting since too long. No result. I went again to tell them about our frustration. I was told that there is a party order and hence the delay. I said if you can’t serve the customers for whatever reason, don’t let the customers inside. It still took 20 more mins to get the food. Even now they got just 1 coffee out of two… I am adding this review while still waiting for the other coffee… it is already lunch time but still waiting for the coffee that I order more than 1HR back during breakfast time… one of the worst restaurant experience of my life. Continuing my story… I never got the 2nd coffee so I decided to pay and leave. While making the payment at the reception, I told the lady that this is one of the worst service experience I ever had and to my surprise, her reaction was… she just smiled. I got puzzled and started thinking in my head… did I complain or appreciate?

We had to leave 30 minutes into arriving there today. Frustrating experience. Needed a quick bite — there is no clear response when asked about how long it would take and after waiting for 25 minutes after placing the order, it seemed like our order was not even placed. We were told it would take time but no communication on specifics. The entire process needs to be better managed. I’ve absolutely enjoyed their bisibelabath in the past. Kali the pleasant waiter at that time(who was not around today) convinced us to host a dosa party at our place too. Dosas need to be less dry at these parties but otherwise the event turned out well.

My cousin’s family have been loyal customers of this restaurant for almost a year now. They ordered food from this restaurant for their son’s birthday party too. Last Saturday, when we were visiting them, we placed a To-Go order at «Ananda Bhavan» at around 9 pm, the order was for two chilli parotas, an onion rava dosai, a chilli malli dosai, and one order of paneer 65(Total of 5 items) They said the order would take about 20 minutes to get ready, and we went in to collect the order at around 9:20 pm, but we finally got the order at around 10:30 pm. The order took almost 1.5 hours to get ready ! They made us wait for such a long time, that we lost our patience and appetite. They just kept saying that it would take another five more minutes, and they kept saying this for almost one hour. I don’t remember the last time I was to wait for such a long time for a To-go order. The manager went hiding inside, and the other staff too went off inside after we started questioning them. People who come after us, had placed orders and got them too before us. In fact, they told one customer that a particular item that he had ordered would take too long, and so the customer cancelled that particular order. If the same had been communicated to us, we would have cancelled our order too. The manager did apologize, but that was just not enough for this. The food was okay that day, nothing to rave about. My wife ate most of the Paneer 65 and had an upset stomach the following day. Pathetic service, and they took their regular customers for a ride. Never again ! We are not ready to wait for 1.5 hours for this food.

It’s rare to rave about South Indian food in the Bay Area but Ananda bhavan is an authentic place for some South Indian craving. A must try place for dosa lovers with some nice options for thali’s and combo’s. Always worth a visit.

We have been to this restaurant for the First time last week as one of the nearby Indian restaurant was full and couldn’t get in. When you have a similar restaurant nearby which serves very good food, you have to try and keep up with them, When the food came out to our tables, Most of them were cold which is not something you want. The vegetarian plate was okay but not a Jaw dropping experience and the Poori was okay but a bit chewy.

I new about the place but was not willing to try as reviews were not great. Finally went in today and the experience was nice and definitely worth coming sometimes if I am craving for Dosa. Lot of seating and probably this was the busiest Indian food place I have seen in tri-valley. We tried Butter masala dosa: Very good, probably the best in tri-valley. All chutneys were really good and sambhar was also good. Vegetable Biryani: OK. There are far better Biryanis that I have tastes in the area. South Indian Thali: OK, not going to try again. Few items had too much cinnamon and few lacked good taste. Filter coffee: excellent Service was good and the overall customer handling was good too. So definitely returning for dosas.

Husband got onto the wrong train and I was driving through the area and we somehow ended up having dinner here, totally by chance. ~To begin with, we got a free Samosa chaat with our Unilocal checkin. It was high on salt and definitely nothing to rave about. ~The fried Idli was pretty awesome. The mini idlis were sauted in the ever so famous ‘Idli podi’ and were crisp and spicy. I would go back here just for this. ~The ‘Kalyana sappadu’ or ‘Wedding meal’ in literal translation was the typical meal served in South Indian weddings with ‘vada’ and ‘payasam’. The puris served with this were soaked in oil and looked dangerously unhealthy. But, everything else served with it were good and there was much variety in the plate. We went into this place with a lot of expectations after being swept off the floor by a few humble south Indian restaurants in the bay area. This one didn’t make it into that list of mine even though it did into my husband’s. Three stars?!

Went here for dinner… Mini meals(no photo)-sambhar saadham, tiger rice, curd rice, potato curry, rava kesari and pickle Spring dosa– dosa was good, chutney was good, sambhar was good but stuffing was so bland like food given to jaundiced person! Bhel puri-no photo, complimentary for checking in at Unilocal app… Was more dry like kara pori… Over all ok food!

Wow, if ever there was a restaurant am a regular of, it is this … Hands down they have the best kaara chutney(Spicy dips) in the bay area. They serve a good deal of dosai varieties, of which majority are nice. I wouldn’t say all their menu are the best out there, but those that tastes good are a slam dunk . Have been here at least a 100 times… and will keep coming back …

Excellent South Indian food! It’s like home food. You can find it easily in the Walmart shopping center across Kohls. You get a free Dahi Vada when you write a review Chettinadu dosa is awesome!!!
