Sugandh isn’t Sugandh anymore — it’s been taken over and renamed(but I forget the new name). No buffet, though the aromas were intriguing, so we skipped it.

This was my favorite place to eat when I was working in the area. I went here weekly. The lunch buffet was super affordable and the quality of food was delish. I can just taste the butter chicken now. When it comes to Indian food, buffets work best for me. I went here for dinner once and found it so limiting to just select one dish to eat. And it was more expensive. So I’ll be sticking to the lunch buffets from now on.

First thought when I walked in the door was…“uhoh”. Very dingy interior and the utensils/glasses were really dirty. Food was just ok. I didn’t care for the Mattar Paneer at all. It was very sweet compared to other places. The naan was good as were the samosas but we won’t be back.

Hi, Last weekend I went to buffet lunch at this place My overall experience was good though my wife said the food was OK but not great The nans(Indian bread) served at the table was hot and tasted good. I am a pure non-vegge so I didnt even taste their veg delights. Non veg items were good. As my wife loves sea food, she made couple of enquires and found that fish is not added to buffet lunch on any day.(I heard in Sannidhi they serve it on Friday.). Items made with lamb were very good and tasty. Desert was not good(Gulab Jamun served didnt taste well), Carot halwa was OK. Over all I recommend this as a great place for a usual/regular lunch for the price($ 8). –Srikanth Bogadapati

This restaurant became our favorite Indian restaurant a couple of years ago — that is until new management took over. My boyfriend and I went there on December 31, 2009. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. The sauce was a dark red — normally the saucce in this dish is an orangy color. We asked the server who just shrugged his shoulders. We also had Chicken Saag. We swore it wasn’t chicken in that dish… we didn’t know what it was, but it was horrible and we will never go back there again.

***REVIEWDISCLAIMER*** The only thing keeping this place from a solid five stars is either their inability to replenish the meat in the butter chicken quick enough as people scarf through it & how my tummy feels after loading up on the chili chicken in it’s place. Four Rolaids is an easy debt to pay for that though. Excellent, solid & dependable Indian buffet. Reminds me of when I worked down in Fremont & we had 18+ AAA rated Indian restaurants within three blocks of my office. For the immediate Dublin/P-Town area this is definitely one of the better places around. Oh yeah & the mango ice cream rocks! The key is to get there just before noon when everything is fresh & plentiful.

I had lunch here with a friend after a test I took last week for school. I was in the mood for Indian food and read about this place but was seriously shocked I was when I found this restaurant in a strip mall in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The restaurant was set up just fine and the service was friendly. What was impressive was the amount of food available on the buffet. There were at least 4 different chicken dishes, a lamb dish, several vegetarian offerings, etc., etc. Each and every item had a distinctive flavor and nothing I tried was luke warm or bad. I also was impressed with the freshness of the naan-and the lack of oil smeared on top… Unlike the last buffet I went to with my folks, this one I will come back to and hope to be able to bring my BFF.

I love this place — the lunch buffet is quite large and stays pretty consistent with the choices. They usually have the staples: rice, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, etc. What is great about this place is the variety — lots of veggies, spicy chicken(don’t miss this one), even some lamb. There is usually one or two really good cold items too! Overall, the food is good here and the service is okay too.

YUM. I like this place. So much so that I’m giving it a 4-star rating on my first pass. Why? Because I know for a fact that I’ll be coming back. We went on a Sunday, when they apparently have a Champagne Brunch. You can substitute the champagne for any type of drink(we both chose Mango Lassi — YUM!). The buffet is quite a spread, with many vegetarian options to choose from. The meat dishes varied, from Butter Chicken to Rogan Josh(the name always reminds me of Josh Groban…) It wasn’t until I read some other Unilocal reviews that I realized there weren’t some other«standard» Indian dishes, like Chicken Tikka Masala. But, unless that’s what you’re craving for, there are so many options that it won’t be missed. They serve fresh naan at the table, which was a pleasant surprise upon returning from the buffet line. The service was quick, refilling our waters and clearing the plates w/o prompt. We stuffed ourselves silly that day b/c everything looked good and we wanted to eat it ALL… haha… We were advised at the end the meal to eat some fennel seeds, as it helps with digestion. And, it actually did. Hurrah! :D

When it comes to buffet, I look at the variety. My coworker is a food scout and recommended Sugandh for it’s reasonable price and nice variety for luncheon. 10 of us arrived around 11:45AM. and it was quite empty in the restaurant. It was quickly filled up by 12:30 though so we were glad we arrived early to secure 10 seats. Service staff were attentive and response to our requests promptly. I am not demanding when I go for a buffet as long as they cleared my empty or not so empty dishes whenever I left the table. Well, they seemed to be on the slow side until we flagged them over to have the high pile cleared away so as to get some space for more drinks and Naan. Naan was freshly made and very soft. They bring Naan to your table upon request. As for the buffet itself, there are enough variety of sauces(I don’t use them except chuckney for poppadoms) and vegetable curry which is smart because it suits most vegetarian. The type of meat that’s popular seems to be chicken, they have different style of curry with chicken. I wondered why there is no chicken tikka marsala or some real spicy hot curry with lamb. They had a lamb dish but it was not spicy at all. Bit disappointed with that. Having said that, I am happy with the selection especially the fried noodles heated on a flat iron plate. I mix them with fresh salad of tomato and red onions and cucumber with lime juice. It’s very refreshing. I love the tandoori chicken. The meat was tender and juicy and very flavourable. I highly recommend that. I also fancy the self service mango ice-cream/frozen yogurt because that was quite tasty too! The meal experience was nice and relaxing. People around us were quiet and polite. I like it when you can enjoy your food as well as able to hold a conversation with your friends without having to shout at the top of your voice. When we finished we just head towards the cashier, she’ll ask you if you have ordered drinks then charge you appropriately. I tried some flannel seeds to refresh my breath. Nice. We all agreed we’ll do this again :) One more thing: they have 2 separate toilets for men and women. It is clean and spacious. 4 stars on that.

Super hungry, always down for Indian food. We were right in the shopping center, no brainer Sugandh Indian lunch buffet. My girlfriend had eaten her before and said it was good, I’ll go with that I’m starved. The place has plenty of seating and it was about 1:30 pm on a friday. We are seated and offered water or asked if we’d like any other beverages. Then told to help ourselves to the buffet(which comes with chai tea and naan delivered to the table). Many lovely chicken dishes butter chicken, Tandoori just to name a few. Aloo Gobi a personal fav. though this was a milder version but equally tasty for buffet style. There must have been 15 or so dishes to choose from so no way you’d leave hungry. The servers came to our table many times to ask if we needed anything and if our food was satisfactory. So I’d say A-OK for the Pleasanton area if you want a quick tasty lunch for $ 9.95.

I like Indian food, and my visit here confirmed it. A solid choice for Indian food. The service was attentive for a lunch buffet, and just the fact that they had the buffet on weekends was cool. Plenty of food, though the names are sometimes hard to read, but the meat dishes were separate from the veggie ones so I didn’t have to try and guess if the food was vegetarian or not. Everything I ate was scrumptious and a nice variety of dishes and spiciness. If I ever go back to Livermore, I’d enjoy this buffet again, especially for about $ 11 a person.

Before I started working in Pleasanton, I’ve had Indian cuisine maybe three times at the most in my life. Since working here, the co-workers find this place a suitable place to stuff your face, but with a zesty and slight spicy taste left in your mouth after leaving. Excuse, could we have more water please. I was introduced to Buttered Chicken and all the great eats there. But it’s this dish that I see most of us going seconds for. The lunch buffet is always full of food and it’s cheap. If you’re new in town, try this place. You may see the El Belazo next door, but do try Sugandh. It’s yum. Even though the naan doesn’t get refilled as fast, just ask and the working staff will bring a fresh basket for you. Buttered Chicken, Rice, and Naan. YUMMMMMMMMMMMM. Water please…

I visited here recently with coworkers as a local lunch spot. We came here for their all you can eat lunch buffet for $ 8.95 which is a pretty good deal. Appeared that there is a staple menu that is regularly prepared for the lunch buffet and believe they do pretty well which generates a stable revenue for them during the lunch rush. Located in the Wal-Mart/Sports Chalet shopping plaza. The food here is not the best I’ve had but is alright. I keep reading about Chef India here. I haven’t been there but would like to try there eventually. Average sized Indian restaurant that is kept fairly neat and clean from what I can tell. A huge turn-off for me is going to a filthy restaurant that is unorganized and I believe that is also a reflection of the management and quality of food. Didn’t get that appearance here. The food at the buffet table was replenished well. I can’t remember all the names of the entrees offered but will describe them best I can: The butter chicken dish that was pretty good; a creamy spinach w/cheese dish; can’t forget the flat naan bread; some kind of garbonzo dish. Just make sure when you leave, you do not forget the Mango soft serve ice cream, it rocks! Have trouble connecting to their website:

I went here with my Inlaws for buffet on the push of my wife. She seems to like the food better here becuase it isn’t as spicy as other places we’ve been to. They consistenly make the butter chicken well, Naan too, Tandoori chicken, they did something different with the Sag Paneer, and it had chicken in it … I think it was called Paneer Palak.(sp?). I hope I just didn’t murder that. Anyway it was still pretty good. Rice was sort of drier then normal, it was missing the donut balls thingys(rose ??) I’m not sure what they are at this time. I forget. :) But my inlaw took the last two, and they didn’t replenish it at all. Boooo… They only had 2 servers and it was ¾’s full, this place is pretty big, so you pretty much have to raise your hand to get served. I can’t imagine how it is at night when it’s not a dinner buffet. Anyway I’m a regular here, so I have to give it 4 stars. I like the food. If I didn’t then I probably wouldn’t frequent it so much.

I had a BOGO coupon for Sugandh so I decided to use it before it expired. I had been to Sugandh once before for the lunch buffet and really enjoyed that. We went on a Monday at 5:30pm and there was only one other table occupied. I think the lunch rush does so much business that they don’t rely too heavily on dinner. Anyway, I thougth the décor was nice and the service was efficient. Before I review the food, let me state that I don’t know how to spell many things on the menu. Anyway, to start you get free poppadoms with two sauces. The mint green sauce was my favorite. Naan isn’t free at dinner, but there isn’t really a question about ordering it – it’s a must! We decided upon Butter Chicken(not the real name) and an assorted vegetable dish(Jalafarezee?). Both came with rice and were more than enough for two people to share. Everything was very tasty and had a nice heat to it.

Watch out Pleasanton as I am going to Unilocal the Tri-Valley(and maybe some of Fremont) during my lunch!(I need to practice writing and find new places to go for lunch while getting AWAY from my new project manager job.) When I pulled out of the parking lot on my lunch break I didn’t have the end in mind before I began, one of the 7 habits of highly effective people. I passed some very familiar and tired stand bys like New York Pizza and two El Balazo Taquerias before finding my course. I’ve been to Sugandh and I love zesty India food. I was hesitant knowing a decent buffet wasn’t a place to ‘proactively’ establish my new week long healthy eating ‘life style’. It’s NOT a diet. Being ‘proactive’ is the 1st The 7 Habits of Highly Effective people. It is the principle that you have a choice to be ‘proactive’ in your response to all of the world’s stimulus’s. It’s all the more difficult when you lost your food mojo… and seek zest. The food is very respectable and a buck or two cheaper then the Indian Chef. I enjoyed MANY of the dishes, and went back for a second savory plate. Sugandh did well with butter chicken but the chili chicken didn’t seem fresh. [When India Chef first opened, customers stood around waiting for the workers to fill the chili chicken tub and then there were elbow fights to the chicken…] The carrot desert dish wasn’t nearly as good as the Indian Chef. Sorry for the lack of names of dishes but I was hoping to get a to go menu but was steered to their web site(which isn’t working for me). They had a chick pea dish heated on a unique platform with fried ‘things’ around the boarder. The dish as nice but the fried things lost their piazzas. On a up note, the gentleman did bring fresh Naan to the table… The bread was a much better quality then Indian Chef… on par with Breads of India(Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek). Out the door for $ 9.75, stuffed on decent to good food was a good deal but not for my health. Until my new life style is established, I’d better get my butter chicken fix with limited portions at Tabla. There food is very good. This place is almost as good and often as good as the India Chef. I’ll give it 3.49 or 3 stars and if I do rate India Chef, it would likely be a 4.333 or a 4… because I know what other Indian/Pakistani Restaurants are out there — thanks to my buddy Badri and Ravi showing me a few destination locations like Shalimar. I LOVE Kabana Restaurant in Berkeley — expect tasteful HEAT with some dishes — and get the yogurt or you’ll be sorry if not expecting it.

Just got back from this place for lunch. It is pretty good. The selection is much smaller that Chef India, but the food is very good. It is in a strip mall type of place with a nice view of both Sport Chalet and Wal Mart. Here is a bit of my thing about the strip mall situation in the 925: This is not a deal breaker for me, and nor should it be for you. Perhaps the best part of the place that I discovered is the ice cream machine with the homemade mango ice cream. Unfortunately I discovered this while sitting in the car on the way out of the place, but those who ate it were PLEASEDASPUNCH.

Good food, at least when I went last. Its been a while. They bring the naan out to you, so its always hot, even if you are just getting the buffet. The buffet is always filled. Service can be a little slow, and it lacks ambience.
