Really like this place. More of a takeout joint than a sit-down restaurant, but on a Friday night when it’s gross out and you need something delicious and comforting, this place is clutch. Great main dishes and mac salad. Wonderful neighborhood take-out option!

Gary provided us a killer meal for a holiday party at work for 40 people. We ordered BBQ tri-tip and Huli Huli grilled chicken with all the fixings. It was from what we heard the best meal at a catered event the boys have had in years. I had an idea what we wanted to do and Gary took the reigns and came up with some suggestions for a complete meal. He sent us a detailed quote on a spread sheet that made things super easy and simple for us to see what we were getting and the pricing breakdown. They even had our order ready before opening hours of the business which really helped us out with schedule. I would without a doubt use Gary and his crew for any event I get to put on in the future. Did I tell you the tri-tip was to die for!!!

We hired Big Kahuna’s BBQ to cater my father-in-law’s retirement party last weekend and they did such a great job! They responded to my inquiries quickly, they had no problems making last-minute changes to our menu, and the food was great! We ordered a whole pig, huli huli chicken, island slaw, mac salad, and asian mixed veggies and everything tasted wonderful! The whole pig presentation was so impressive looking(and tasted really good) that guests were taking photos! The chicken was very tasty and no weird/chewy bits. The sauce selection was beyond expectations! I loved the vinegary dressing on the island slaw and the mac salad was as good as anything I’ve had in Hawai’i. The mixed veggies were not as popular as everything else but I thought they were very well cooked. Not mushy at all and had good seasoning. The couple that came set up quickly, answered our guest’s questions, made the tables look really professional, and the best part: they brought leftover boxes! After we cleaned up the rented hall it was really nice to take home lunch for the next day in a nice, big container. I would hire them again for an event and look forward to stopping by their café sometime.

I have been 6 time and love 5 out of the 6. this last time i was in when they just opened excited to get fresh cook food. I ordered to go when i got home i could smell bad chicken.(i have been in the food industry and professionally cooking for over 25 years) i opened up the box thinking i was crazy and the bad chicken smell hit me so hard. I tried a little nibble and could tast the old should not have been cooked and served chicken. So so disappointed thats 20 bucks down the drain for one bad meal. Please no comment about how you only use the freshest foods as i said i have been cooking for years and years i know bad chicken. Unfortunately i will not be back.

Eat here all the time. One of our go to favorite spots. The portions are really big and I always eat way to much! It seems like so many NoPo restaurants are always closed or have limited hours but we can always count on this place being open.

My husband suggested this place as a change of pace from our Eugene haunts. Large portions, good smoked ribs, interesting sides. The macaroni salad is made with large pasta which we liked. We also had the tropical fruit, island slaw, potato salad, and beans. All were interesting either in taste or texture. Kahlua pork was good, a little salty(but I was reminded that most of the Kahlua pork I have tried trends salty). We suggest the spicy BBQ sauce, based on that one being gone at the end of our meal. Friendly staff, fast service. They also cater, which is probably great, based on out experience.

The young man that works here is so very sweet. We told him our to go order for was a picnic, and he made extra sure we had all the napkins, sauces, etc we might need. He deserves a raise! Portions are huge! One order can definitely fill up two people. We add the spicy chicken over rice, and we both really liked it. Big pieces of quality meat, not that crap you get at teriyaki places. The macaroni side portion was so great! If you get a side, get this. The Fiancé had fruit salad and he said it was really fresh with lots of pineapple. All the sauces are great, but I prefer the spicy one.

If you have a lot of time to spend here and you dont mind terrible service, the food is delicious. This place is hit and miss with bad service. Only thing that will get me to go back is the food which makes up 2 of the 3 stars.

Small place with good portions for a good price. my husband had kahlua pork plate and spicy bar b que. He’s a big eater and said it filled him up. He said«it was tasty«. My 8 year old had a chicken rice bowl with barbque sauce. He said«the bbq sauce was kinda sweet, good, and it satisfied my hunger, the chicken was cooked good and had a good seasoning with smoky flavor.» I had beef brisket and tried a little bit of if everyone’s food. The slaw was pretty good. I liked the red potato salad, and i had the teriaki and sweet hot sauce. Each sauce was good and didn’t taste as heavy as jar sauces. Since we live out by gresham we probably won’t come often but if it was in our side of town we would probably come monthly or more.

Found this place through Unilocal, and I’m glad I did. Our server(the owner I presume) was very pleasant and kind, and our food arrived promptly. Large portions, too, which means I get some tasty leftovers to enjoy later(; My boyfriend rarely likes to venture out from his usual restaurants, but I managed to talk him into going all the way into North pdx from Woodstock, and he was not disappointed. We will definitely be back.

This is a very small building with a very small dining area. I don’t know if it gets busy. There are three tables and a side seating along the windows. The food service is fast. I ordered the rice plate which comes with two sides and your choice of meat entrée. We both ordered the kalua pork with macaroni salad and kimchi. The kimchi is not your typical Korean pickled goodness but it does have a nice flavor to it. I wished there was more sour bite to it. All the favor combinations were good and the portions were just enough which was perfect because the first thing the sweetheart said when he saw his serving was«There’s not enough meat.» Au contraire, there was just enough. It’s a pet peeve when there is more meat than rice or vice versa. The prices were reasonable. The style of Kalua pig was different from what I’ve had in the past but I still liked it. You have your option of sauces and it comes on the side which is appreciated. I prefer not to have my meat sauced already. Also this place is literally a hop and skip from my parents’ house so I’ve known of this place for a while. I had a hankering for Hawaiian food, i.e. Kalua Pork and it didn’t disappoint.

Pretty basic Hawaiian style bbq. Everything was okay but nothing to write home to Dad about(he lives on Oahu). Really friendly service. Ill definitely go back and try some more items.

Excellent food and service. Was great to sit out front and enjoy the warm January sun. I had the Brisket and the Hubby had the Pulled Pork. Both dished were excellent, we will return soon.

As a Hawaii native, I was stoked to find a place to satisfy some of my local cravings thousands of miles away from home, especially located right in No-Po. So far, I’ve tasted the Kalua Pig, Huli Huli Chicken, and Hawaiian Noodle Soup. The Kalua Pig is definitely the best thing I’ve tried here so far. I literally finished my plate within 10 minutes after basically inhaling this with some white rice, which is fyi, essential while eating Hawaiian BBQ! Not the best I’ve ever had, but damn satisfying nonetheless. The Huli Huli Chicken is decent, but I wish that the chicken was more generously coated with sauce before being cooked. Portion also seemed pretty small compared to the Kalua Pig. And hm, the Hawaiian Noodle Soup is an interesting one… I’m really picky when it comes to saimin(what I’m assuming this is based off of?) and this just wasn’t what I was used to. I think this would taste better with Chinese egg noodles instead of Japanese style udon noodles, but as I said above, I’m just really picky about this stuff.(My boyfriend always says Hawaii kids have a weird superiority complex about their Asian food… I hope he’s not right!) If I could, I would give this place 3.5 stars, but I rounded it down instead of up because my food(with the exception of the Hawaiian Noodle Soup) is always lukewarm at best. There’s nothing more satisfying to me than steaming white rice and the rice here was pretty cold when I got it. Disappointing :( If they can get their food a little warmer on the plate, I’d definitely give this place 4 stars just because I think it’s awesome that I’m able to get a little taste of home in my new home :)

The flavor of the food was really good, but the BBQ was way overcooked. I had trouble swallowing the ribs, as did everyone I was eating with. If they get their cooking times more in order the food would be great.

I honestly have to say that if I walked by this establishment, I would not go in. However, a colleague has told me about this establishment several times and spoken of it favorably. So on Friday night, I decided to take the girl, @elvisismyman, for dinner! One word: WINNER! I am giving the location a 4.5 rounded up to 5. The .5 loss is based on décor. The place is minimalist at best and feels divey. However everything else is a 5! I ordered: Tri-Tip Steak Pub Roll — Steak was tender and delicious! All meats are smoked on premises and it shows /tastes! A spicy BBQ sauce, served on the side, accented the flavors nicely! Kim Chee — Fresh, Crispy, and Tasty. Could have used a little more spice. Island Slaw — The slaw used a vinaigrette base and was a refreshing change. The girl was equally thrilled with her chicken and island mac salad selection. I tasted the chicken and it was also grryummery! The service was friendly, helpful, and super fast. We had a 5pm appointment and walked in at about 4pm. Out the door by 4:48! Visit this local hidden winner! UPDATE11/22/2014 — Had a catered event! They killed it! This was a definite HIT! Beautifully done! Thank you for helping to make our party a success!

Dine in, carry out either way the food is something you’ll look forward to having time and time again. Are you one of the people that hear Hawaiian cuisine and think«I wanna try their take on spam»? Good news folks, you can try it here! Also you can get a whole rack of ribs for under $ 20.00. Ask about their Catering too, cause sharing is caring, Aloha Unilocalers!

I’ve eaten their food at least 3 times before, but never actually went inside til yesterday. It’s bigger than I thought and there are perfectly comfy picnic tables and smaller tables to sit your butt down to eat. Parking can be a challenge if you don’t get one of the few street spaces right out front. We were in a rush, but the food came in minutes so no worries there. Everything I’ve had there is quite good. Always well cooked, sometimes wonderfully seasoned. Never really overcooked — which is important. The huli huli chicken was superb! fall of the(boneless) bone good. The pig was also quite good. Potato and macaroni salad was good. Not quite enough seasoning — but again, not overcooked, and I am a sucker for cholesterol salads! We also had the slaw which was asian-like. I really liked it but there was a tad too much vinegar(you could really taste it at the bottom) and it was screaming for sesame seeds! The sweet chili and teryaki were my favorite sauces add a lot of flavor that you sometimes needed. The gentleman who waited on us was friendly, the service superb. Prices are pretty good — with all dishes a la carte. Two meats, and three decent sized sides was probably about $ 15 and more than enough for two! All in all, I’m quite fond of this place and vow to go more often!
