Ordered a Booker T with only one order in front of me. Only took a few minutes, and was delicious. The green onions had a strong taste, just enough to make them stick out. But they were definitely not overpowering. Amazing breakfast. Am not a huge fan of dark roast coffee, but in the morning you’ll take that you can get. Friendly service and great speed. Will go back.

Came here for breakfast last week. The biscuits are flakey on the outside and dense on the inside(which I liked). My sandwich had collards, veggie black eyed pea gravy, and an egg. I wasn’t hungry for the rest of the day. Either the collards or the gravy were a bit earthy tasting and it got to be a bit much after a while. Plus it was just a LOT of food. The woman who owns the cart was super nice and we had some good giggles about the South. I’ll be back to get some gut-busting breakfast but maybe I’ll try something new next time. The pumpkin biscuit sounded pretty enticing! Keep in mind, it is CASHONLY.

The area that this food truck is in, is right down the street from me. What first interested me about this one, was that it said, ‘As seen on Grimm’. I love Grimm. :) I still had never been there though. So I finally went up to the counter, and I’m gazing at the fluffy, huge, wonderful biscuits and the nice girl working there asked what I’d like… I’m kind of a picky eater and saw some options that I wouldn’t prefer. So I asked nicely if I could have it made just simply eggs, and cheese and biscuit, and she said of course! :) So that’s what I had. OMG it took me 2 days to finish it. It is huge! The biscuit is beyond tasty. I am thinking about going there just to order the biscuits and bring it home and putting some apple butter on them. Biscuit Heaven! :) Nice customer service too! :)

I really wanted to keep coming here. Our first trip a couple weeks ago was pleasant, I got the Isaac Hayes with vegetarian black-eyed pea gravy and the husband had grits and greens. We shared and he decided his was good, but mine was better. The biscuit was fluffy and the greens were tasty. We went back today and this time we both had the Isaac Hayes and a side of collard greens, since we loved those so much. Now we are too grossed out to go back. This time I found a hair in my biscuit sandwich. A HAIR. Not just ANY hair, a hair not belonging to either of us, that is for certain! A short(4″), fine, white-colored hair.(We are both redheads, mine super long, husband’s super short.) We both saw the person cooking our food(not the same person that took our order) and it adds up. Needless to say, after pulling this directly out of the middle of my biscuit sandwich(after eating half already) I threw the rest away in revulsion. Unsanitary and disgusting!

These were some damn good biscuits. I headed over to sample the fluffy goodness in one of its simplest forms, a biscuit with honey butter(aka the Johnny Cash). I was persuaded to dine with Ma Rainey instead…2 biscuits drenched in sausage gravy?! Oh my. The Ma Rainey is indeed a winning dish but it is a LOT of food. I recommend sharing unless perhaps you are«recovering» and then have at it! I am going back to try all of these cleverly named creations but I will make sure to go when Cackalack’s is also open so I can prove the rumors are true by getting some fried chicken on that buttermilk cloud of awesome.

The biscuits are gigantic and delicious. I ordered the BLT w/egg and I think it was a little bit of a mistake. I think the biscuit should stand out more and I ordered something w/too much going on. If I make it back before I leave, I will keep it simple with the honey butter! My hopes for this place is that it combines the spicy chicken from Cackalacks into a fried chicken and honey butter biscuit. Portlanders, make this happen!!! UPDATE: substitute chicken from Cackalacks for the ham on any of our sandwiches($ 2 additional charge)! Thanks Mary!

Decent little biscuits and gravy food cart. I asked the people working there for a recommendation, but since they weren’t too helpful, I went for the Jerry Lewis sandwich which is a biscuit and gravy with ham and egg for $ 7(add bacon for an additional $ 1). The result was the most massive breakfast sandwich I have ever ordered. It was quite tasty too. I did go with the extra bacon which, in hindsight, was superfluous. The ingredients worked well together and the biscuit was flaky without being too dry. All in all, it was a fair value. For those unfamiliar with the destination, Blue City Biscuits is located in a little lot on Division with about 7 or 8 other food carts. There is a covered seating area in the middle of all the carts that makes this a great spot for cheap outdoor eats during a beautiful Portland summer.

How did I miss reviewing Blues City Biscuits? If you call ahead, you can order some of their lovely take-and-bake biscuits. We did this for Easter dinner. Let me tell you, these biscuits are amazing — sooo light and fluffy and buttery and flakey. MmMmm. I ordered the Stagger Lee: Sausage gravy, ham steak, chunky bacon pieces and eggs over easy. It was a delightful gut bomb. My little tyke got 3 mini biscuits(like, the size of a golf ball) covered in chocolate gravy with bananas. TASTY. Can’t remember what the dude ordered, but I know he loved it. If you need your biscuit fix, but don’t want to wait around in line at Pine State, this is the place. In fact, just skip Pine State and give these guys a shot.

Hey, if every other cart in the pod is closed, guess who gets the business(at 11:15 on a Friday morning)? I’m looking at you, Blues City Biscuits. Everything on the menu looked great, making my choice difficult. Eventually, I settled on the Carla Thomas biscuit sandwich, which was ham and maple butter on a HUGE biscuit. For an additional dollar, I had the double-thick bacon added. For $ 6, this was an amazing bang for the buck, handed over to me by a friendly gal who announced my sandwich with a Southern accent. I bit into my Carla, securely tucked in red and white checkerboard paper, then sheathed in a foil wrap. The Carla Thomas is a creative and delicious concoction. The maple butter provided a juicy sweet contrast to the biscuit, ham and bacon. Quite a few different biscuit sandwiches, in addition to several hearty grits dishes(though a note on the cart indicated they were out of grits until next week).

«.they asked me if I would Do a little number And I sang with all my might, And she said«Tell me are you a Christian, child?» And I said«Ma’am, I am tonight» –M. Cohen, ‘Walking in Memphis’ One bite of these biscuits and javey-oh(My grandmum’s word for gravy) will make a believer outta you, too. Good Lawd, and Sir Isaac Hayes, are you freakin’ kidding me? The ingredients-list is deceptively short— fried egg, slice o’ cheddar, smoky collard greens, along w/the gorgeous sausage gravy between two of the best biscuit halves you’re likely to find anywhere in town. Of course, I had to go w/a sprinkle of Ghost chili which highlighted and enriched those high quality flavors to a degree I couldn’t have dared to dream possible. I was still working on my first bite of the Isaac Hayes and involuntarily blurted out, «and I can dig it!», only to have that smart sammy fire right back«Shut yo mouth!» Even in the after-world, Isaac does not suffer fools or bad table manners gladly, you see. My co-worker went w/the Booker T(no, not the Wrestler!), which you already know was gonna have scallions in the mix, this was«instrumental» to this sandwich’s success. No cheese or collard greens but of course w/the Naga Jolokia(Ghost chili pepper powder) in the mix. She loved it and dispatched like there was no tomorrow. Next time we pass through we’re gonna tackle the Stagger Lee and Howlin’ Wolf. I love the South, and have a great time every time I go through there. If you can’t make it there yourself anytime soon, the next best thing is having a little bit of it brought straight to you with love, via Blues City Biscuit. Like Howlin’ Wolf said, «.I’m built for comfort, I ain’t built for speed But I got everythang all you good woman need…»

After ~150 reviews, this is the first of it’s kind as I am rating without trying the food. Why? Because the four(1,2,3,4) times I’ve visited during STATED open hours they were closed. Comments by other cart owners included, «she’s usually here at this time» and«her hours are very sketchy.» I get it, life happens. But the drawback with carts is the business model is often flawed. I’ll try to visit again, hopefully experience at minimum a mediocre biscuit and erase this one star from memory

I got reeled in again. Kimberly dangled ghost peppers in front of my face, the computer being the most evil fishing pole on God’s green earth. And I bit hard. It’s downright scary how I flock to spicy food, seemingly on autopilot. Kimberly used an evil three-step process, outlined below: First, post a photo of a lot of dried chiles, especially the ghost pepper. Second, post FB/Twitter update on some amazing dish w/a spicy option. Third, post a picture of that dish. Note, anything equivalent to this would also likely work. All three steps were done within a 7-day window, and I had no other obligations. Hook, line, and sinker. It wasn’t much of a successful food adventure up to this point. I had one great sandwich, but some of my other choices that I wanted to hit up were closed for various reasons. But when feeling blue, have some ghost peppers. Maybe that should be my new catchphrase. Kimberly was testing out some new cute miniature biscuits. She’s planning to use them at Eat Mobile 2012, taking place at the end of April. But I came for ghost chile chocolate«gravy.» Yup. Kimberly added ghost chile powder to the chocolate gravy this time. Don’t be fooled… it’s an amazing slightly sweet chocolate sauce with that sexy milk chocolate color. It’s got an ideal thickness that latches on to each half-biscuit. I went with the spicy works for mine: bananas, bacon, pecans — and more ghost chile powder over the top. An image fit for sexy porn music. Thanks to her father, Kimberly obtained some«chocolate» dried ghost peppers, a browner version of the normally red bhut jolokia. Even with just the equivalent of half a chocolate ghost pepper, I received a quick rush of spicy madness. I welcomed it with open arms and just continued to eat. Words really can’t describe how good it was. Bacon by itself makes everything better. And then we kick it up several notches with some ghost chile powder. Many of us «chileheads» give the resulting burn of the spiciest peppers about 10 – 15 minutes to totally disappear. That was the case here for me. Temporary, panda-pleasing pain that I’ll have happy dreams about. No wonder some of my friends call me a spicochist… For the record, no bad aftereffects from consuming spicy food. Iron gut strikes again! This is one of my all-time favorite spicy meals. Being able to balance sweet with powerful heat will win me over every time. While the chocolate gravy is not always on the menu(at least for right now), Kimberly always has sriracha and ghost chile powder on hand. So if you want some spicier meals at this cart, just ask! I’ve continually been blown away with excellent food. Knowing I can get delicious spicy options here is a huge bonus. More people need to go to this elite food cart. At the very least, I’m confident you’ll be a fan of this place.

I stopped by today and had a really difficult time deciding what to order; it all looked so good. I noticed at the bottom of her specials menu was an invitation to try her grits. I’m so glad I asked — they were HANDSDOWN the best grits I’ve had in Portland.(Having lived in North Carolina for 15 years, I’ve been disappointed with most local attempts at this southern delicacy.) I ordered the Nina Simone, which is a plate of grits w/cheese & egg, collard greens(OMGSOGOOD you won’t believe they’re vegetarian), and spiced apples. I ordered a biscuit on the side, and though very good it was my least favorite thing about the meal. The eggy, cheesy grits & collards were so exceptional, I can’t wait to go back.

A new gem of southern goodness at Cartlandia. I enjoyed summery tuna-stuffed tomato, watermelon salad and some mighty good coleslaw. Hubby had W.C. Handy ham & creamy grits — the flavors are paired wonderfully. Don’t miss this great new addition to the Portland food cart scene!
