This joint is exactly what you’d expect — or at least should expect — from a cheesesteak spot in a mall. It’s not anything to write home about, but it is edible and a good reprieve from McDonald’s and the like. The meat is cooked in front of you which is cool, but it was also overdone, dry, and lacking flavor. That said, the huge amounts of gooey, melted cheese makes everything better! The bun was perfect, fries were eh. I added jalapeños and banana peppers to my regular sized Philly to make it better, and they did. For the love of god, please don’t put lettuce on your cheesesteak when they ask you to.

Charley’s Subs became known to me via mailers, so I obliged and tried out a cheesesteak with one of their coupons. Here’s how I’d rate this place in the Clackamas Town Center. Stars assigned: 1. The food was decent … not fantastic, but decent … and who doesn’t like cheesesteaks and subs? 2. The service was pleasant 3. I sometimes like to eat in the airy upper level food court of the mall, knowing that where I might be sitting was once open to an ice skating rink below(I’ll stop right there with that one) Stars missing: 4. It’s not Jersey Mike’s 5. It’s not Philadelphia’s along OR-43 in West Linn(when their cheesesteaks are«on sale») There you have it — 3 stars. Should I endeavor to make subsequent reviews this compact?

Places like this, the avid cheesesteak consumer should avoid. If you have to eat here, dont expect much. Remember your eating in a mall food court. Prices are high for the quality of sandwich you get. For the longest time this was the only place to get a cheesesteak in the area, but not anymore. The fries shine here. Service is always friendly and quick.

False advertising. They claim to have the best Philly cheesesteaks in America, or whatever the sign said. I ordered a small Philly cheesesteak, $ 5.49! There were no mushrooms, it was pretty much a cheese sandwich. It had the smallest amount of meat possible, you get more meat on a subway sandwich, then they asked if I wanted veggies on it! Who puts lettuce and tomato on a Philly cheesesteak? Filler! If you want a real Philly cheesesteak, go to grant’s Philly cheesesteaks on 145th ish and sandy in portland oregon. They are only open Monday through Friday though. But you won’t be disappointed!

Never coming back again. He first time I came here, they forgot my order and made me stand at the register for 20 min. I was on my lunch break, so I had very little time to waste. When they realised they forgot me, they rushed my order; it had meat in only half the sandwich and the veggies were just thrown on top of the sandwich. The second time, the lady who rung me up stole my change. The guy who was taking our order couldnt understand english. 3 strikes, im out.

Got a groupon for it before I realized it was in the Clackamas Town Center, for what it’s worth, not that it hurt the value, but probably wouldn’t have had I known it was a food court location. Either way, food was ok, nothing bad, nothing great. Seemed a little pricey, but not that shocking in a food court. Service was friendly and quick. All in all, not a bad place if you are in the mall and want to avoid the Sbarro’s, but I wouldn’t seek it out

Expensive… I could have gotten the exact sub from Safeway deli for a fraction of the price and it tastes better. It was good though, don’t get me wrong… it just wasn’t exceptional. The fries are really really good though… that is what earned the three stars. That and really nice staff.

Charley’s is what you expect of mall food. The food is authentic and the service is friendly, but the food is just okay in taste. I only went because Groupon let me three times redeem a Groupon giving me $ 12 worth of food for $ 6. Like I said, the place is okay and fairly good by mall standards, but we live in the Willamette Valley and we can do better than that. We can go downtown, or somewhere else, but in a mall, this will do. The cheesesteak tastes a little good. It has it’s place. Charley’s is suitable for people in a rush.

I don’t understand why the rating for this place is so low. I love their sandwiches here. As well as the loaded fries. The service has always been speedy for me, and I come here at least every month. Its my little guilty pleasure.

Let me just start off by saying the food is decent. Not exactly what I was expecting, but decent, especially when you are hungry for something hot and meaty to go. I decided to forego the familiar subway after trying a sample of the philly cheesesteak deluxe. It took me a moment to figure out where exactly to order because the line system was a little screwy. All the while, the cashier just kind of watched me wander around with a scowl on her face. And this is where my rating comes in: I asked for no special treatment, just a sub and a drink, and the cashier acted like it was such a burden to even ring me up. I reminded her about my drink because she looked to the next customer for their order. She got all pissy and said she was getting to it, then stormed off to take care of it. I understand that people have bad days sometimes, but if this is the same lady as was mentioned in a previous review on here(which I suspect it was) she might want to start acting a little more appreciative of her job or think about moving on so that this company can start to get ratings based on their food rather than their service.

I ordered the philly steak and a turkey w/swiss to go. Seems like they always toast their sandwiches — asking that they make the turkey and swiss a deli(cold cuts) took some explaining. The person at the cash register when you place orders seemed curt — after turning me down on various options(no pepper jack cheese, no variety on breads) she seemed to get down right irritated! After ordering you move to the end where they customize the ‘wich. Meaning you can’t see what they’re putting on so all you can assume is that they heard you right. I asked for tomatoes, lettuce and green peppers on the turkey. And everything on the philly — evidently everything doesn’t quite describe it as I had to spell it out — black olives, onions, peppers, … They packed it all up and handed it to me. When I got home my wife realized that the turkey w/swiss was just that — no tomatoes, lettuce and green peppers. I found the philly steak average and too salty. I’m not returning — another locally found subway sandwich shop(you’ll recognize the name) does a far better job and you get to see exactly how they build it for you!

There’s a standing joke between my boyfriend and I about Charley’s Grilled Subs. It is said that if we get married, we are going to have Charley’s do our catering. Even if we have the event at some really ritzy place like The Governor Hotel. Our love for Charley’s is not unjustified. Hot, fresh, delicious, Philly cheese steaks. You can’t beat them. There’s just something about the combination of bread, meat, and grilling that makes these foot long beauties irresistible. Whenever we wind up at the Clackamas Towne Center mall we inevitably wander our way here for our mid-shopping lunch. There are other locations as well, each with the same standard of service and fare. No matter where we have had our subs, we have never been disappointed.

It’ll do. Honestly, I was talking about this with my wife, and we draw the line at cheesesteak purism. I don’t want to know how they do it in Philly. That Liberty bell, once tolled, was cracked, yet the mere fact of its tolling spread and evolved, yadda-yadda. Look, I’ve heard«original» cheesesteaks are overrated. But I do have this ideal in my mind of a thick baguette jammed with pipin’-hot roast beef, carmelized onions and oozy-gluey liquefied provolone. This was not quite like that.

If you are in for over sugary tasted bun get it. Over price sub and expect less than ¼ of material they use. Order a large but the beef rarely stretch each sid.

They ran a deal through Groupon’s Daily Deal. $ 6 for $ 12 of food. Since I had a coupon, I only paid $ 1. Which, even if the food was horrible, it was still a good deal. Groupons are always a nice way to try out a place that you would never before(or never heard of, like in my case). They moved through the long line pretty quickly. So bonus for that. They did mess up my order and the person’s behind me. The cool thing is, I got a large size for free(I wanted regular) since it was easier than wasting the food and making me wait for mine to be redone. But really, a regular would have been fine. The taste is ok. Good amount of meat. Onions/peppers are grilled to perfection. Who knew mayo went on an Oregon Philly? It worked though. Not a fan of the cheddar/bacon fries. I didn’t think to ask if it was cheese sauce. *shudders* Would I go back and pay full price for this place? Probably not. It was good mall food but was still mall food.
