Dont park your car here for long, you’d most likely to get stuff stolen. I got my tires and rear mirror stolen. People near the surrounding area said that it’s some old looking asian men that took it. Ppl thought the car was owned by those men. Owner of this place will not corporate with you for your lost investigation.

Sometimes happy accidents are a good thing, although with this place it was better to grab the food and go. Cuu Long is an interesting spot in a side strip mall right by a bunch of Vietnamese places on 82nd between Division and Powell. I was on my way to a Chinese bakery that I had bookmarked on Unilocal and I passed by and saw really cheap bahn mis. No complaints here. You enter and well, I was the only non-Vietnamese speaker there. Older men sitting around talking, Keno, CNN, video poker in a back room and two women taking care of the food and customers. It was odd. There’s no actual menu that I saw, but a few of the sandwiches were listed with pictures. The #1 house special, the #5 pork loaf and the #6 sardines. Not sure what happened to the others but the #1 seemed like a good choice. As I said, grab and go. The French bread was nice and crispy. Three types of pork cold cuts, cilantro, cucumber, jalapeño, mayo, S&P and a rather tasty sweeter version of pickled daikon and carrots. $ 2.75. Cannot have a problem with that. It hit the spot. My guess if all the older Vietnamese men hang around this place the rest of the food can’t be half bad. I will actually have to see if there is an actual menu somewhere on my next visit. Which there will be one. Enjoy.

The $ 3.50 special advertised on the sign outside suddenly becomes $ 4 when you enter the place. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen something like this(I’m sure you restaurant owners can figure out how to print an updated menu and stick it in that plastic box on the outside) so I still got it instead of leaving in a flurry of rage. The sandwich tasted pretty good. The coffee was a giant cup of ice with a thimble of coffee stuff poured in. It’s probably the most pathetic beverage I’ve ever paid for. I’ve had flat root beer at a place known for making root beer, a drink at a bar that didn’t seem to have any alcohol, and various soda fountains give me a blast of syrup-free carbonated water and none of those were as bad as this.

Located just south of the Fubonn shopping center, this is certainly an interesting Viet restaurant. Kind of a hole in the wall with minimal decorations, 8 tables, walls lined with cases of stacked beer and wine, and 1 waitress/cashier/cook, and usually a couple guys behind the swinging doors playing video poker for god knows how long. They have free wi-fi, too(you have to ask for the password) and a free networked desktop computer to use if you need to access the internet and don’t have a smartphone. It looks like the only things they sell are $ 2.75 banh mi sandwiches(4 – 5 different versions, including tofu, chicken, pork patty, and their«special» which I assume has headcheese?), beer, wine, and video lottery game entertainment. I got the chicken which was served on a fresh french roll with the standard toppings. A generous portion of fresh, hand-pulled chicken pieces was atop carrots, diakon, cilantro, and mayo spread, warmed in a small toaster oven. Their long, thin strips of spicy peppers have a LOT of kick so I’m glad I only ordered it a little spicy. The roll was fatter but a little shorter than Best Baguette(BB); the overall the quality is about the same, though I do like the larger variety of sandwiches &other food/drinks that BB offers. Bonus that they sell the beer by the 6pk or case that you can take to go, along with cheap $ 3.99 Tisdale wine(not a bad price, especially if you just need some cooking wine in a pinch) Similar to Don B., I still consider An Xuyen to have the best banh mi in SE, if not all PDX, and my go-to for local/fresh bakery items, but in this part of 82nd Cuu Long is reasonable choice.

Cuu Long is one of the many new Banh Mi/Lottery places that have popped up on or around 82nd over the past year. It seems to be a new trend — the deli/lottery. I had always assumed that the sandwiches are a mere excuse to have some video poker machines. I think I confirmed those suspicions(and I doubt anyone is even trying to hide that fact). Cuu long is in this weird little strip mall that sits between the Fubonn and Ocean City restaurant on the east side of 82nd. It’s painted in bright, warm colors and is very clean inside. It boasts a small-ish seating area with tables and a TV. There’s a small deli counter, and then a back room with Oregon Lottery machines. When I walked in the door, there were only a few people in the joint, and everyone looked at me like«what the heck are you doing here?» but not in a bad way. I think they’re just not used to random customers coming in just for sandwiches. They have only a few sandwiches, which are pictured up on the wall, sans prices. The regular sandwiches(like standard BBQ Pork, meatball and similar) are $ 1.99, and the Dac Biet runs $ 2.50. This is right at the sweet spot for Banh Mi prices. I sampled the BBQ Pork and Dac Biet sandwiches, which were definitely made with care. The bread is obviously not made in house, and is heated I think in a convection oven, sliced open, and stuffed with various Vietnamese meats, fresh veggies, and some sort of sauce. For the price, the sandwiches were just the size you’d expect. The flavor of the sandwiches was satisfactory. Nothing incredibly awesome, nothing bad. Just plan decent sandwiches at a good price. With An Xuyen baking their own bread nearby, I think I’d venture there instead unless I were in a hurry. Also, I think I prefer the Best Baguette sandos nearby better as well. That said, these bad boys do the trick, and they’re priced to sell. And if you feel the pull of the video-crack, then this might not be a bad place to hang out.

The girlfriend and I had noticed this place on a recent visit to Fubonn and so when a craving for Bahn mi emerged we headed here. This is the fourth place I’ve tried bahn mi in Portland and prices are typical at $ 2.50 for a sandwich. Selection is pretty small with only 5 different sandwiches in comparison to Best Baguette’s 9+. As for size i would say the sandwiches are smaller than best baguette, but larger than An Xuyen. Anyone who’s had a bahn mi knows that they are pretty basic snadwiches that are hard to mess up and so if I had to find a complaint it would be the bread to meat/vegetable ratio is too large. The bread dries your mouth out a tad, but otherwise the sandwich(we got the #1 combination) was good. Atmosphere is not too hot with a typical asian owned look and lottery area past some swinging doors. They have free wifi, but you have to ask for the password and there’s a TV in one corner. They also have bottled bear, the typical cheap stuff, some widmer, deschutes, etc. I don’t remember the prices though. Ultimately there’s nothing outstandingly wrong with the place, but I doubt I’ll be back soon because there is better bahn mi in Portland.
