My husband and I were here a few weeks ago and were so impressed with the customer service we recieved. I believe we were helped by a gentleman named Cory and he definitely went above and beyond what is normally encountered in retail these days! He took his time in assisting us, gave excellent advice regarding the maintenance and care of their product, and was very friendly! Way to go Filson on hiring a great employee to help sell such a stellar product, we will definitely be back and pass the word along!

Woohoo Filson! It’s expensive stuff, but you pay for quality, heritage, and being hip. This store especially has a great selection of all their stuff. Helpful staff too, although you’ll be reminded around 100x that Oregon doesn’t have Sales Tax if they find you’re from out of state.

I’m not the type of person who use things for a very very long time. I will buy new when things really broken and unfixable. So, having said that, I’m so glad that I found this store who sells bags that will last more than 10 years; and if the bags do breaks down; the service to fix them is free! I like that! The sales man was so friendly and helpful. I ended up buying two; one is for my husband. The best of my bags? Still proudly made in USA! I’m for supporting US workers and living here ain’t cheap ;-).

These guys should be pretty embarrassed. Closed their store because of a little snow when basically ALL of the businesses on the block remained open. Fairly ironic given the nature of their products. Their website says«snowstorms and power outages send panic into the hearts of many…» Who knew they were talking about themselves…

I went into Filson to buy a hat that I had been trying to find for quite some time. It was expensive, as is everything made by Filson, but there is a good reason for that. They are a brand of quality. They highly emphasize that what you buy will last far beyond your lifetime, and that when you wear their brand, you will stay dry… no matter what. And for the most part, this is all true. My hat is amazing. I wear it all the time when it rains here in Portland and it’s always kept my head completely dry. It also is very aesthetically pleasing(which is certainly part of why I purchased it). All in all, Filson is a Northwest based brand that puts quality above all else. It is a hunting/outdoorsman brand, but they have many choices for around-town cold weather wear. If you’re okay with spending a decent amount to ensure high grade material, this place is right up you’re alley. My recommendation: Tin Cloth Wildfowl Hat

My husband and I really like the Filson brand the clothes are high-quality and though it’s expensive I believe it’s worth it as far as service goes at the store I haven’t had the best service when visiting so that’s why give it 4 stars.

Filson used to be great. Not anymore. I own Filson socks, flannel and wool shirts, an oil cloth jacket, a heavyweight wool coat, and more. I have bought jackets for friends as gifts over the years here. All fine products. I hadn’t been by their Portland store in a while so stopped in this past weekend. I was disappointed by the poor service and the unrealistic pricing on most of there items — $ 195 for a cotton chamois(o.k. they call it moleskin… whatever?) shirt made in Portugal! Guess they think we consumers are idiots. I can get one of at least the same quality and warranty from LL Bean for a fraction of that price. Their marketing plays off their old history of quality and how Mr. Filson demanded only the best. Wonder what he would think of his name being plastered on so many extremely overpriced very average products made overseas? The great service from thoughtful employees is a thing of the past too. Looks like the bean counters are running the business now and it’s lost its soul. I’m done with Filson. I get true high quality American originals from companies like Rockmount and Schaefer Outfitters with great service.

Awesome store. Happily surprised by the staff. Old timers who you can tell have used this product for ALONG time and know what you want and need and also what the wear of the product will be. Great selection of bags and coats. It was nice they left me alone to browse as it was my first time, but as soon as I had a question they where all over it. Can’t wait to add another Filson to our collection!

Our Portland suitcase wasn’t exactly packed with hiking boots and binoculars as much as it was packed with heels and shades. This might help to explain why Tiny Trojan and I were slightly more excited about the tax-free shopping than we were about exploring the great outdoors and why a trip to the Filson store was mighty high on my to-do list. I’ll be honest: I’m a sucker for Filson’s extensive line of luggage and bags. Their distinctive design has spurred a multitude of copy-cats, but no one can build a durable bag quite like these guys. Best of all, their bags age beautifully! There’s no «eww, it got scuffed» around these parts; those are badges of honor that are earned in the battle of travel. As excited as I was to be able to see their line in person, instead of online or in their catalogue, I didn’t expect to be floored by their stupendous service. It was never pushy, but always eager to answer questions and not afraid to have a discussion about stitching. «If it ever tears or falls apart, send it to our factory in Seattle and we’ll replace it for you,» was the type of comment that had me wanting to shed a sartorial tear. Although I was sincerely thrilled to see an entire wall of bags, I was a wee bit disappointed that they only carried a limited selection of their entire line. It sort of felt like getting that awesome Christmas toy, only to realize that it didn’t come with batteries and then you were more disappointed to find out that Dad wouldn’t let you take the AA batteries out of the TV remote control because he was too busy watching Christmas Day Football games and he thought he had done enough having to give a woman a black eye in wrestling her to get your stupid Transformers toy at Toys“R“Us and he wasn’t about to also give up his TV privileges to try to make you happy.

Finally! excellent customer service. parking is a bit of a drag, but thats par for the course in the Pearl. For those who complain about price. Filson is one of the few last vestiges that proves the adage«You get what you pay for»

I have always liked the style of coats, shirts, pants, and luggage offered by Filson in their catalog. And I have one of their canvas/leather briefcases which is handsome, practical, sturdy., high quality, and a good value for the money. However, Filson’s merchandise is not cheap. And although they have a great warranty and return policy, you do take a bit of a chance by ordering out of the catalog without experiencing the look and feel first hand. So it was a pleasant surprise to visit Filson’s relatively new«Brick and Mortar» store here in the Pearl District. It ‘s a handsome store located on the ground level of the historic Modern Confectionery Building, with separate women’s, men’s and luggage sections. During our short visit, store staff(and of course the dog) were very helpful and friendly. And as I looked around, I decided that the feel of the Filson Oil Cloth fabric really didn’t suit me, but the softer cotton and suede did. Again, it’s hard to determine that from the catalog. I was also impressed with some of the selected mark downs and of course the luggage. When Gayle and I have a little bit more time during our next visit to Portland, we’ll be back.
