I am a new fan of Hi-5, where we’ve taken our toddler’s BOB stroller 2x for flat tires. Even for a job as piddly as patching a stroller tire, the mechanics are friendly, efficient, and awesome. Max, the owner, has been really helpful in recommending a child-seat attachment for my partner’s bike.

Hands down the best down hill MTB shop in Portland. I can’t say enough good things about these guys. From the attitudes to the service.

These guys are awesome. I was trying to get to get some work done in time for Mountain Bike Oregon and every shop in town had at least a week turn around. A buddy pointed me in the direction of Hi 5 and said that they would treat me like family, and they certainly did. They had my bottom bracket installed in about thirty seconds and got everything else installed over the weekend. Wes and Max are awesome. You’ll never hear a bad word about any other bike shop from them. They do great work, and are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and it shows. Even though they are very downhill specific, they work on all bikes and if they don’t have a part in, they’ll get it for you and get it on your bike A.S.A.P. Support this business, these guys are RAD!

This place is the best! I found it via chinook book & had a coupon. I bought a bike online & brought it here to be built & they didn’t try to sell me anything but I did buy some new pedals! The owner is super nice & answered all my questions. As someone who doesn’t know a lot about bikes I felt super comfortable and would recommend this place to anyone!

Update 5÷28÷14: Had a great experience with Max and Wes at Hi-5 Bikes when my girlfriend brought her new bike in for some expert help. This was her first mountain bike build and she really wanted to learn as much as she could about the process of putting a bike together. We needed a shop to help with certain aspects of the build like cutting the steer tube and installing a headset etc… so we decided to give Hi-5 a shot. Turns out that was a really good decision. Wes, the mechanic, was really cool with us both hanging out in the shop while he worked. He was totally willing to walk us through the details of the work he did and answered any noob questions we had. No attitude at all, just generally happy to help! Max, the shop owner, understood that this was a budget build and didn’t try to push expensive options on us at all. In fact, he scoured the shop for anything we could use that he could offer at a deal. For a shop that specializes in high end bikes, we were treated with a lot of respect considering the modest bike we were putting together. After my girlfriend’s great experience at this shop, I decided it was time for a new bike myself! Max hooked me up big time and two days later I’m rocking a new Banshee! I ended up going with a Banshee Spitfire. It’s been called the downhiller’s trail bike… and it totally lives up to the reputation. It weighs about the same as my old DMR steel hardtail and straight up destroys trail. I haven’t ridden this fast for years, maybe ever? As stoked as I am about having two new bikes in the house, I can’t say enough about the service I received at Hi-5 bikes. For example, I wanted to take the Fox fork off my old bike and put it on the new Banshee. Instead of just switching the fork over, Wes tore it apart, cleaned/inspected everything and changed the oil at no cost. There were many other instances during our experience that impressed me. These guys are just stoked to see smiles on the faces of their customers so they go the extra mile. I’ll be back. I’d say that if you are looking for great service on any of your bikes go to Hi-5. If you are looking for someone who will talk your ear off about anything having to do with mountain biking in the last decade or two, go to Hi-5. If you are looking for a shop that truly represents the kind of aggressive trail-riding and downhill scene we have in the Northwest, absolutely go to Hi-5. And get yosef a Banshee dude! PS Penelope is the shop dog and she’s just a little sweetie. We took her for a walk while Wes dialed in our bikes.
