Holy Mole

Amazing chicken pozole! So fragrant and flavorful. The soup was obviously made with great care and it all comes through. I will be back for sure.

In general, I don’t usually order mole — however, given this was received best Portland food cart of 2015 I had to try! I am a sucker for a good bowl of soup (of any ethnic origin) and this Pozole was sooooo AMAZING! I have never had anything like it before — I love the spices in it! Will definitely be talking about this one for awhile :)
PS: I also ordered tacos (which I don’t order EVER) but thought I’d give them a whirl here and thought they were delishhhh as well!

Awesome chicken mole. Great enchiladas. Two of our party said they were the best mole and enchiladas ever! Came with delicate white rice and jicama salad. Also had the Jamaica tea. Don’t be in a rush, and beware that the tables are only partly shaded.

Now that I am no longer the first person to not like this place I can put my original rating up. Wish owners didn’t contact you when you leave a negative review. Awkward.

Very good mole poblano… chicken was juicy and not dried out like Mi Mero Mole. If your looking for American burritos, nachos, or chimichangas that cost $ 5, go elsewhere. This place was very good and authentic. No Tex-​Mex here!

I have to agree with the couple of reviewers who gave this place a so-​so review. The owner is SUPER nice. He is 5 stars. And so it kills me to write a 3 star, but the food was just average.
I really don’t know how it got food cart of the year. I mean, it is very authentic and the staff is great. It just wasn’t that flavorful. «Solid» was the word I would use to describe my meal, but not wow, not memorable, just. fine. Pretty good.
And I don’t care too much about the price. Maybe it was over-​priced, I dunno. I will pay whatever if someplace is gonna knock my socks off, but when I looked down my socks were still very thoroughly planted on my feet.

One of the best enchiladas I’ve had in a long time — I can’t stop thinking about Holy Mole’s fantastic enchilada sauce! I’ve never had a love affair with enchiladas until now. The enchiladas had organic turkey with apples and raisins — a great combination of savory and sweet flavors and textures. It paired really well with the cool, refreshing jicama slaw. I’m not a fan of coleslaw, but this slaw, I dig. Apparently after talking with the owner, most of the food items may seem like fusion menu offerings, but are actually genuine family recipes from Puebla, Mexico. Great to try something Mexican aside from your typical burrito (which is not Mexican anyways)!

We stopped in at Holy Mole on a hot day when our nearby destination food truck was closed. I’m glad we did! Originally we were just looking for a beverage to cool us down, and the icy $ 2 hibiscus-​infused Jamaica fit the bill. But soon the smells emanating from the tiny truck tempted us into ordering a set of tacos. Filled with simple-​yet-​nummy steamed-​then-​fried potatoes, they were a flavor and texture explosion. And at $ 4 for the pair, they were a great deal. Wish we’d had the appetite to eat more. Next time for sure!

I hate to give this place such a low review, because the owner is a super nice guy and I see a lot of potential in this place. I just feel the Mole Poblano wasn’t worth the price. Now granted, it did taste good overall, but there really wasn’t much food and it came across as very basic. And if I’m going to spend $ 11 at a food cart, I would hope not to walk away still hungry. I want to see this place expand on the potential of its existing dishes, put a little more food and flavor variety on the plate, and I’ll happily return. Also, maybe have an optional spicy kick to change it up. I still advise new people to try it out though.

We stumbled upon this cart while getting food from a neighboring cart. Holy mole is right. I had a sample of the mole and it was dreamy. My son didn’t want anything from the other cart and ordered the enfrijoladas. He loved it and after I had a bite, I wished I had it too. We will be coming back for sure. Awesome food.

i got the mole poblano which was white rice, 2 corn tortillas, shredded cabbage, and sliced chicken with mole.
it tasted fine but it was pretty underwhelming and incredibly overpriced ($ 11.50) for something so simple that a complete novice like me could do at home.

Saw this had made the list for the top 5 trucks new trucks of the year so had to come and check it out. I got the Chicken Enfijoladas which were tasty and quite a good amount of food for the price. It consists of some cabbage salad, rice and corn tortillas filled with flavorful chicken and avocado and mole sauce. I couldn’t figure out what the rice was for exactly, but oh well! Will stop by sometime to try the mole.

Holy Mole’s food was delicious and tender… yet the plastic utensils and styrofoam to-​go container reminded me of attempting to eat something in an airplane. And I did feel the prices were high for a food cart… yet it was really good and Holy Mole is definitely a step up and i certainly recommend … food made with love.

If you’re seeking chalupas, taco shells made out of Doritos or burritos the size of your ass, then move on. Holy Mole’s offerings are like no other Mexican venue in Portland, no wonder they keep winning awards.
I enjoyed the Chicken Enfijoladas for $ 6.75. And two Dorados (crispy corn tortilla tacos) for $ 4 were excellent and a deal. I’m not a huge mole fan, but the version here (their marquee item) is definitely a cut above others I’ve tried. There’s just a hint of cacao, the flavor doesn’t dominate.
The owners are very nice. My only slight negative is one that plagues many food carts: tiny plastic utensils. For the newbie this cart might be difficult to find as it’s down an alley and not right on Hawthorne.

It’s easy to tell that Fernando really puts his heart and soul into his food. He’s extremely knowledgable and will tell you about his native state and food customs. Such a great food cart. I tried the chicken mole and was blown away!

Finally, real Mole Poblano in Portland, do yourself a favor and come to this place. And make sure to try the other tasty and great dishes that Fernando serves. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL.

If standing in line for hours to have for an average taco and a Margarita or shit tons of rice and beans on your food is your thing, do yourself a favor and check out Holy Mole.

Fantastic pazole! Have checked out the menu, numerous times, after hours when visiting Golddust Meridian. Was lucky enough to catch him before closing, today. Hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had, in Portland. I look forward to frequenting this food cart many times in the future. Put. This. In. Your. Mouth. Now. !

Best mole I ever had was my (Mexican) mother in-law’s mole. Holy Mole is damn close. [Hi mom!]
Seriously, mole is tasty, chicken cooked to perfection. If you’re feeling porky, you’re out of luck, but they do have vegetarian options. And it’s all gluten free.
