Well seasoned Philly sandwiches BURSTING with meat/filling. I got the $ 8 large sandwich and it was big and delish. A small unpleasant surprise was when I brought it home and opened it up, NOCHEESE! (I ordered a provolone steak sandwich and there was no cheese to be found, unless it mysteriously melted into the bread or meat) It was still tasty so hopefully, with the cheese in it next time, it will be even better.

Best steak in the city proper. Last time in, dude must have put three pounds of meat on my sandwich! Of course, this is not the norm, but nice none the less. Actually, that one philly might just be the best one I ever had, and I consider myself a cheesesteak expert; having had philly in Philly numerous times, and even worked at a place that showed me how they are truly done right. Philly’s Best does it right. I always get the biggest, baddest philly on the menu, which has never disappointed. Fresh cut fries right in front of you as well. Also, chicken philly for the lame.

What a great sandwich! Nice healthy sized portion with great proportions on all the fix-ins. I eat here about 1 – 2 times a month when I’m in the area. Reasonable prices for the quality ingredients. Good fried sides like the fries and onion rings. Everything I’ve tried there was tasty and piping hot when they serve it too you. Quick service too if you are on the go.

(NOTE: This is when I found them at Last Thursday on NE Alberta at the end of August) One of the guys working the cart remembered me from when I did those Insane Heat wings at Grass Roots Café. As a note, I learned Grass Roots Café now does mostly catering events. I opted for the supreme cheesesteak here($ 7), getting a nice helping of chopped, thinly sliced beef peppers, onions, and, by special request, a double handful of jalapenos — really because they don’t have much more spice in the cart. Sure, they got sriracha, but that’s one of those things I’d start chugging. For cheese, I went with provolone this time. It’s a well-executed cheesesteak that really has almost all the components I seek in a good sandwich. I can’t help but borrow Adam Richman’s «BITE» scale from his«Best Sandwich in America» series. The bread is soft and lightly toasted up, so it’s able to hold everything in without making too much of a mess. High marks there. Other cheesesteak spots in Portland use Amoroso rolls, which appears to be the dominant choice in Philadelphia. While the bread at Philly’s Best looked different at first glance, it’s still a very nice, high-quality selection. The interior and taste are awesome. You can’t go wrong with a cheesesteak option at Philly’s Best. Beef’s juicy. Peppers, onions, mushrooms, and jalapenos add wonderful flavor, all cooked perfectly. Cheese is melted and stringy, the ideal glue. Experience-wise, it’s a great cheesesteak from a yet another great Portland food cart. Many brick-and-mortar spots around the country wouldn’t be able to pull off what Philly’s Best does — nor would those people put nearly as much passion into their food. The Fresno Double Double($ 10) is basically double portions of meat and cheese. It’s something I could easily put away, but I wanted to save room and try some other vendors at Last Thursday. I’ll have to try the chicken options in the future as well. While I held back and only went to a handful of places, this was the best thing I ate at Last Thursday. Find Philly’s Best and give ‘em a try.

Gooey, golden goodness… they’d rate higher, but seem to be open far less frequently than the posted hours suggest… Since diving in the deep end of the pool, so to speak, in the philly-cheese-a-verse, tripping on the triple cheese w/garlic sauce and a hot link to boot over @ Christopher’s Gourmet Grill a couple miles south of Philly’s best on MLK, this little truck of supreme elusive availability would have to have been truly other-worldly to hold my attention. Regrets. Philly’s Best is decent, even good, but are relegated as-is to 3rd tier in this niche… that is, until more of the menu is sampled, and demands my prompt re-consideration… In our ridiculous world of superlative language and comparison, it seems like a slight to give an A-ok rating, doesn’t it? Yet A-ok it is. Good job Philly’s Best!

I was craving something today like I’ve never craved anything else in the world, except for maybe the love and admiration of all my peers. I wasn’t quite sure what the craving was for, but my best guess was a cheesesteak sandwich. So I rode my bike down here and ordered one, and what I was given turned out to be precisely what I wanted. Yaaayyy!

They make a really good cheesesteak, and he put his own twist on it by adding some jalepenos which turned the heat up on it. But it worked and we enjoyed the sandwhiches. I wouldnt make a special trip into town just to eat here but will definitely go back if I’m in the neighborhood.

Maybe I‘m too novice to be a judge of «great cheesesteaks» but I know what tastes good and this was a delicious sandwich for the price we also had a side of onion rings that were perfect and curly fries the kid gobbled up. We‘ll be back!!!

I’ll spare you all of the«I’m from Philly blah blah blah» crap. I went to Philly’s Best on a rainy Monday and had myself a decent cheesesteak. Everyone has a different idea of what a perfect cheesesteak is. This is their idea, and it’s an acceptable one. I liked the bread, soft chewy like I expect from a typical cheesesteak. The option of provolone is an authentic touch, too. The guy serving me was really nice and polite, definitely not authentic to Philadelphia.
