No pressure to upsell me, and a very friendly staff and doctor. I’ll be back in two years!

I started coming to SJ Vision when my previous eye care provider went from an independent shop to part of a vision chain and completely dispensed with everything that I liked about them. SJ is an independent clinic, with the owner/optician on site, along with a small, knowledgeable, customer service oriented staff. For over ten years my wife and I have never had a glitch, never a problem, never a miscommunication. I have never felt pressure of ‘up-selling’ all the options, the scratch coatings, tints, etc that the previous clinic I went to resorted to when it became part of a large chain. SJVC will offer, explain and leave it up to me to decide. No pressure. If I were to describe SJVC in two words, it would be ‘quiet competancy’.

Morning coffee accomplished, HG pulls my hand in an unexpected direction, refusing to tell me where we’re going until we arrive at the St. Johns Vision Clinic. Ah. His glasses have been slowly disintegrating for months, and I’ve been pestering him to find new ones before they fall apart and he has to tape the lenses to his face in order to see. We go in. Smallish selection, but nice-looking; a helpful optician comes over to discuss options(we’re looking for fairly durable frames, flexible would be nice). We end up in a prolonged comparative fashion show(our optician has an educated fashion sense, and knows her inventory), during which HG’s glasses come apart in my hand. Guess we’re out of time to find new ones! While HG and I debate the merits of the various choices, our gracious hostess finds a spare arm for the old pair, and installs it for only $ 7. We choose a pair(not her first choice, and different from HG’s old style, but we like the fresh contemporary look), make the optometrist appointment for an hour and a half later, receive a «no health insurance» discount(sweet!), and 7 business days later, voila! Sexy new glasses for the man. I’m digging the anti-glare treatment(I can see his hazel eyes in pics) and he’s digging the transitional lenses — no expensive prescription sunglasses to lose. Like the last pair. Ouch.
