we wanted to surround ourselves with our gay folk family after the orlando shootings… we had a lager, then the seafood benedict… excellent…we sat outside, and relaxed, joining in conv with others… thx for being a bright light in a sea of grief. the bartender was real nice… joshua, the server, was very friendly and efficient!

For my first gay strip club experience, I had a great time! I enjoyed the décor and the setup of having the stage directly next to the bar. The dancers that were on tonight were all very hot(minus one). I’m not going to go any further than that but I was all very impressed with their dancing. It was almost like going to Cirque du Soleil! I especially liked the guy with the glasses. He was every gay nerd’s dream come dream come true. Anyway, looks like a good selection of drinks and some finger food. Hoping to try out more of that next time. Great job so far!

What a shit circus! The guy at the door taking the cover charge was outright rude to start with. It took 15 minutes just to get a beer because the manager decided that having a bartender start his very first shift would be a great idea on a busy Saturday night – well thought out. The music was so bloody loud I couldn’t even hear a 747 jet take off, more or less try to have a conversation with my friends and the dancers were mediocre at best if not subpar. Silverado’s is SOOOOO much better. Pass.

Pros — Cheap cover, cheap drinks, friendly bartenders and attractive dancers. Apparently they expanded so it was a decent size bar and you could chat with friends on the new side without being too crowded or too loud. Cons — And this is a big one… went to this bar specifically to view the«Crown Jewels» of their dancers and in over an hour’s time on a busy Saturday night, their jewelry boxes all remained closed. Went to Silverados and like always, the goods were on full display for all to enjoy. Granted these goods were slightly damaged, but fun to watch nonetheless. My advice, go here for a drink or two, then head over to the other place and lay back and think of England.

I came here with my friend while visiting portland and I’m glad I did. The décor is hip, the bloody mary’s delicious and they have cute boys dancing. Shout out to Teddy who made me feel welcome and even gave me a lap dance while I was there.

This review is for their brunch. I give the performers and entertainment 5 stars! My group and I had the best time! These ladies don’t disappoint! But unfortunately the food(although quite tasty) took almost an hour to get to our table – we had a party of 7 and every plate came to our table one at a time, all within 15 – 20 minutes after the next. My friends and I all work in restaurants(front and back of house) so this was something that was quite odd to understand. Maybe the kitchen was overwhelmed? Understaffed? But we all agreed we’d go back. Those queens put on the BEST show in the city!

We enjoyed this place a lot on our visit to PDX. I do love the full frontal. Yum! Such cute boys! The only downer of the night, was the fact that a group of women basically took up all of the bar seats and kept screeching the entire time. One kept putting her drink on our table and kept drunkenly interjecting into our conversation. What’s with this trend? Anyway…after they left, I was able to belly up to the dance bar and a cute boy was dancing. I said thank gawd they left and he smiled and immediately put his ass in my face and pulled my face into his crack with his feet behind my head. All of the irritation from before left my mind… ahhh…lovely. He had me… and my $ 2 bill tips! LOL I’ll be back Stag!!!

Hot new gay strip bar in Old Town. Cool new space all shiny and new, Filled with old faces from Silverado. It is fun but it is to bad the space isn’t wider. it really gets cramped on busy nights. Food menu could be improved to. Not enough variety or quality.

As a gay woman with a gay male friend visiting and a bisexual wife we all had a great time here! Good drinks. Nice décor. Feels comfortable, and when the typical bachelorette party showed up no one treated them any different except for making sure they showed respect. The announcer kindly told them no screaming as this is a gentleman’s club. I think this place is very inclusionary. I felt very welcome and comfortable. MUCH better dancer than Silverado, but then the guys there don’t actually do any dancing. Better looking guys here too(yes a gay woman can appreciate male artwork. lol)

For the price one of the best brunch spots in Portland. The quality and presentation are equal to any fine dining restaurant. Never do get this quality of food for this price point. More food and drink than I could eat for less than $ 16. Worth a try…

Portland’s moving on up: we can officially support two separate ding-swings! In some respects, I think Stag is at the top of the game, but in one actually quite important category, Stag is still getting beat. So far I can’t go above 4 stars. First of all, the space is SEXY. Go past the door guy and down a long, dark hallway. You turn the corner, and suddenly you’re in a teeny-tiny, well-designed and masculine space. The stage is low, with seats right in front, however nobody was using those chairs.(They must not have felt inspired to share their dollars: more on that later.) There are also a number of loungy seating areas that are definitely cozy and intimate. There are poles at both ends of the bar, and the stage also has a pull-up bar and gymnast rings, both of which are MUCH hotter than a standard pole. The talant is right up in the crowd, running around. You get a small number of people into the space and it fills up quickly. Suddenly the whole space is high-energy, rowdy and a hell of a lot of fun. The small size is definitely an asset, though also probably a good reason to not come on a weekend. So that’s the good, and it’s very good. The bad? Unfortunately, at least from my experiences, the dancers just aren’t that hot. This space is hyper-masculine and I think they should find talent to suit. I’d really like to see dancers that matched the aesthetic of the space. Some are attractive, for sure. But this place seems to have a strong sense of identity, or at least desired identity. Right now the talent doesn’t match. I’ll definitely be back. I loved the crowd. I loved the vibe. I just really want to love the dancers.

There’s a new game in town y’all. It involves hot dudes in cute little mantey’s, shaking their tight booties, and behold people: They POLEDANCE. They don’t pole dance like women with lithe and flexible moves but they pole dance nonetheless. They do strength moves and some of them are in fact quite flexible on dat pole. The décor is interestingly and tastefully decorated. Think man cave, you know, dark, plush, warm brown overstuffed furniture. Comfortable, for your leering at nearly naked men pleasure. Unlike another other gay, male friendly establishment, this space is more modern as in it takes credit cards. As a female, I feel welcome. But still ladies, this is not the place to squeal and act all silly as if you’ve never seen a naked man before. Do you see the fellas doing that? You shouldn’t either. There’s some new pole, I mean game in town, go play and tip them well. 2015 — Review # 31

a nice male strip club to offer something new to portland’s stipper scene. classy interiors, nice variety of dancers. it’s small and intimate. avoid busy nights as it get’s packed very quickly but i’d say a great spot to try out next time you’re downtown and feel like going to either of our great male strip clubs.

No pun intended but I wasn’t very impressed with this place. I went with a friend who hyped the club up like it was Mardi Gras so I thought I’d check it out with him. It’s basically just a proverbial gay bar that plays un-edited rap/hip-hop music. Long story short I wasted $ 19 and we ended up leaving for another bar. Pros: Convenient location. Up-to-date music, decent customer service, accepts major credit cards. Cons: No windows(ventilation issues), No real patio or outside area, unattractive strippers, over-weight drag queens as MC’s, small venue. predominantly feminine gay males &ZERO men of color.

I am absolutely disincentivized from promoting this place because two weeks in it already has lines out the door, but this place is a dream come true. Hottest strippers, best drinks, and reasonably priced, Stag is already a great gay bar on paper. The honest truth though is that it is finally a gay bar in which I feel comfortable. None of that go-go boy feel nor that forced masculinity in various Eagles across the land, Stag is IT. Some commenter *from LA* declared that it didn’t resemble the Q Center and should therefore be an object of shame and derision. Well, as somebody who has been alienated from other members of the queer community for being too masculine and normal that is exactly why I like Stag. Please keep rockin it Stag. You’ll never know how much it means to me that you came to my neighborhood.

I dig this place. Stag just opened last week and boasts a well designed, inviting space. The staff is very friendly and professional, and the drinks are reasonably priced(even more so during happy hour). The tap boasts a good selection of beers and ciders, with a stocked liquor bar. The dancers come out past 9, where you may enjoy the sights or even get a more… «personal» experience behind one of the curtained chairs. Of course an ATM is available at the front, and the MC is available to exchange into smaller denominations. If the dancers aren’t your jam, there are few spots in the bar where you can be more remove from the action. There are some issues with the bar, which mostly comes in the form of newer bartenders and undetermined guidelines(i.e., time of the happy hour, what are the well liquors, etc.). Bartenders shouldn’t be confused or out of the loop about these items. Also, the food menu is kind of ordinary. The fries I had weren’t crispy, which is a major faux pas. I think Stag needs to up their game to make themselves stand out from the competition, and good bar food is one of the ways. My overall experience is closer to 3.5 stars, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt as they are still very new. This business has a lot of potential, and I hope it becomes a great(permanent) addition to the Portland gay scene. **In an effort to be all-inclusive, Stag needs to fix the«Women» bathroom sign(currently says«men» with«Wo» scratched out) or change both bathroom signs to be unisex. It was a bit disheartening to see that in my last visit.

In response to the other reviewer I decided to go back to stag more than once and to check it out on a week night instead of just basing my review on opening weekend. If you want all spaces and all places to be gender queer and inclusive of the entire LGBTQIPPA alphabet you will probably find something to hate here. The bar has a masculine theme(exlusionary!!!), the bar promotes objectification of the male body(exclusionary and sexist!!!), and the bar promotes itself openly as a gentleman’s club(exclusionary, sexist, elitist, and istist!!!) Here’s the deal. It’s a strip club with male dancers, catering to men. Were they rude to the women or drag queens who were in the audience(one on the payroll) no. Were they providing a gender neutral all inclusive space for everyone? NO. But that doesn’t make them hostile or offensive or mal-intentioned. It makes them honest and transparent. If you want a gender-queer space this isn’t the place… at least on stage. In all honesty I dont think the dancers give a shit about your politics as long as your money is green. The drinks are strong. The owners are adding something new to the gay scene in Portland(hallelooya)! The space is intimate and warm. Stop hating and support a great local gay bar. Or hate on but keep it in the confines of your living room and Netflix queue. One note– on Wednesday the bar had 3 bartenders and worked much better. The placement of the strippers does create flow issues in the shotgun style bar but not much to do about that. 5 stars if the music slows down a bit. Finds a sexier, more soul/r&b/trance-hop vibe and more abner dancing. That man is worth his weight in gender normative masculine gold. Woof.

At its root, Portland’s latest gay nightclub Stag PDX is the physical incarnation of the worst kind of internalized homophobia. Claiming to offer a specifically masculine atmosphere and a lodge-type gentleman’s club setting, the place is really just a mess that looks like a fan of Lewis Carroll tried to cram Blow Pony and Scandals into half the square footage after powering through the first two seasons of NBC’s «Hannibal.» The place has enough goth-paisley wallpaper and poorly placed antler displays to make even Bryan Fuller feel uneasy. The only thing about the place that actually gives it a ski lodge feel is the framed photo of a ski lodge hanging on the wall… under a pair of antique skis. There’s a large neon sign at the end of the bar that says, «SPORTINGGOODS» right next to the bathroom, but the sign seems to be an ill-placed monolith for the early 20th century-style pull up bar and gymnast rings that occupy the dancer’s stage. Many dancers(some of whom you might recognize from Portland’s gay men’s strip club Silverado) took full advantage of these things as they performed for thirsty spectators on opening night, but it was clear that contrary to Stag’s promise of envisioning a better place for dancers to perform, only one of them actually possessed any dance skills. The Native American art that lines the other walls also serves to enhance the mythologized ideal of offensive gender roles that the club is very eager to enforce. But considering how crowded the venue was on opening night, it’s no surprise that patrons may not have noticed the décor since the place was so full it took people over 20 minutes just to move to the front of the bar before waiting even longer to be acknowledged for a drink order. Many of Stag’s elderly patrons were also treated to even longer wait times while the younger customers that looked or dressed more like the people serving them received faster and more frequent service. The drinks themselves are what should be expected from a gay bar that fancies itself a gentleman’s club. A large selection of whiskeys, rums, and other assorted amber and brown-colored spirits line the wall behind the bar’s counter, fitting perfectly with its dated, masculine aesthetic. Drinks are served in smaller, fancier glasses and goblets while the larger glasses are generally reserved for the beers and ciders on tap… because any true gentleman knows that visibly drinking more than eight ounces of liquid at a time or having an AMF in a normal sized glass isn’t masculine. There are also some clear-colored spirits like vodka available for consumption at Stag, but they’re of the higher-end variety, Grey Goose and Ciroc, as those are the only kinds of vodka real men would drink. Like any good bar, though, Stag PDX does have a great-but-unadvertised menu with prices all under $ 10. Just don’t expect a full meal to come with the $ 8 spent on a grilled cheese sandwich that you can only order from the bar. However, what Stag PDX lacks in culinary artistry they make up for in crafting a speedy and memorable delivery experience. Bartenders are more than happy to get up on the bar itself and find you in the crowd so they can have you come back to them to receive your order. As their website states, Stag’s «intimate setting allows for the highest quality in customer service and the cultivation of relationships between Stag PDX and its patrons, and members of the community.» Given the aforementioned long wait times for drinks, cacophonous aural landscapes provided by a playlist of today’s hottest contemporary Rap and Hip-Hop songs, and an almost complete lack of non-masculine-presenting people in the club, it’s clear that Stag has achieved this goal in every sense of the word. Stag PDX is also quick to inform people that providing customers with a supportive and inclusive environment for the city’s LGBTQ community is a foremost thought in the minds of its founders. Considering the absence of queer venues that adhere to anything other than gay men in Portland, it would seem that Stag has already done that simply by using their aesthetic and décor to cater to the only audience they really care about. The co-founders of Stag PDX are said to have created their establishment after having seen something missing in Portland’s gay scene; I can only assume that what they saw missing in the gay scene was a place for all the self-hating ‘masc’ bros to be able to gather instead of at every other queer establishment in the city. Lord knows there are ample other places for people to «enjoy fine Oregon spirits and microbews» in the city of Portland. But because of that, I actually hope and expect that Stag PDX will find untold financial success here in the birthplace of the Modern Male Masculinity Movement. Maybe then they could buy out the floor space of the Taboo Adult Video store they’re so perfectly located next to and change the club’s name to a more appropriate title, like«Daddy Issues.»
