Great chicago pizza. Very good pizza. The crust is dead on. I am from the Midwest and love chicago pie.

Sadly, I must give this place only two stars. Is this what passes for good deep dish in Portland? Wow. I am from Illinois and I grew up on deep dish pizza. Ordering just a slice was a chore. I stop by and he was out of slices so he told me to come back in 30 – 45 minutes. I understand that it takes a while to cook deep dish(my home pizza parlor takes at least 45 minutes to cook a pie), but you should be constantly prepared. So I went off to grab ice cream(yes, spoiling my lunch) and then came back. When I came back, he was already serving slices and I got one of the last ones. While I was there eating, a guy asked for a slice and he was also turned away and they said they were done cooking for that day. Dang! I was lucky to just get a slice. So I was hoping after the long wait, that my pepperoni would be worth it. Not so much. It was rather think for a deep dish. I am used to deeper. Also, something was a bit off with the sauce, but it is hard to describe. Anywho. My advice — wait till you are in Chicago for the real thing.

YASSS New favorite place to grab a slice. I’ve already raved about this place to a fellow food-lover at a different food cart lol point is, I fully endorse Thick as a place to get a delicious slice of pizza pie! I got the plain cheese and church choirs were singing in my consciousness as I was eating. And that crust… oh bb, I am all about it. Already marked my calendar to go back. I declare that 2016 will be full of happiness and cheese. Also, I saw, with my own eyeballs, the guy handling my food wash his hands! Brownie points galore!!!

I absolutely love this cart. The chef/owner is very friendly and he certainly knows his pizza. Expect lots of cheese, lots of sweet red sauce and a delicious buttery crust. The only thing keeping this at four stars is that their availability is sometimes sporadic, which I suppose is understandable four a pizza based food cart. That being said, the food is well worth the wait if you want a big hearty slice of deep dish pizza.

Best deep dish pizza I’ve ever had… wow. I’ve had Zachary’s in Berkeley and lots of crap like BJs in LA. This food truck blew everything away. So glad I came here.

Legitimately the best pizza I’ve ever had. Wow! I was nervous when I saw it but the guy reassured me it was good and very cheesy despite its appearance.

Thick is awesome. I eat here 1 or 2 times a week. The pizza is delicious, consistent, unique in Portland, and the service is direct and pleasant. The spinach and mushroom is amazing, but do yourself a favor and eat a Chicago dog once in a while as well. Also one of the least expensive filling lunches in the area. Win win win.

Hate to be another dissenting voice, but I expected a lot better pizza for $ 25 for a 15-incher. The crust was great. Don’t get me wrong. So was the cheese. But the sauce was … too sweet for a Chicago style pie. I’m used to a more savory flavor with just a touch of sweetness. It did settle down afterward, but there was no other seasoning and it seemed like it came out of a can. The pepperoni was meh. You can get better tasting pepperoni at Trader Joe’s. The mushrooms were decent enough but not anything overly special. Won’t do this again for the price. At best it’s a $ 15 pizza.

I’ve kind of been day-dreaming of this pizza ever since I had it that once last month when I was visiting Portland. The crust tastes like a savory pie crust, it sort of melts in your mouth. Once I had the bite of my fiancé’s slice, I had a mini mouth-gasm and regretted my food cart choice of the Noodle House — which got rave reviews.(Yeah, yeah, the squid isn’t chewy which is great, but I was kind of disappointed) Hey Thick — do you ship to LA? Also, why have I never before had Chicago style pizza with this kind of crust? What is in this crust anyway? Oh, that crust.

Overpriced pizza by the slice. People are drinking the Kool-Aid if they think this is equivalent to Chicago deep dish. I didn’t enjoy my $ 7 slice of sausage pie. For those who can remember what a slice at Giordanos or Gino’s East looks like, this is about half the size and lacking on the amount of sauce. They have 3 options on the menu. Cheese slice, pepperoni slice, sausage slice. At 1pm on a Tuesday they were out of cheese and pepperoni. I’m suspicious as sausage is the highest price option of the 3. Sneaky upsale tactic. The wait time on a slice, even on the tail end of lunch(without a line ahead of us) felt unusually long.

Very friendly service and not outrageous pricing, but the pepperoni slice I had was not really deep dish pizza. Deep dish pizza should require a fork and knife to eat, but you could easily pick the slice up and eat a slice here. The crust is thick, but the rest of the pizza just didn’t reach the same altitude. With that said, the pizza did taste good. But given some fantastic choices right next door, I would only come here if I was craving pizza.

Synopsis: Huge slices of thick-crust, Chicago-style pizza for $ 5-$ 6. If you care for a Chicago Dog, they have one of those as well for $ 4. For the second time in a row, we were asked if we were getting food for more than just ourselves; their short menu consisted of a pepperoni, cheese(both $ 5), sausage($ 6 +$ 1 if you want arugula on it) and a Chicago Dog($ 4). They had a root beer float on special for $ 4. We opted for everything but the root beer float and arugula. When we got our food, we realized why he asked. These slices were the size of personal pan pizzas. Both of us hadn’t really had«real» Chicago thick crust pizza. To my East-Coast-born dining compatriot, he said that«I have to think of it as something other than pizza,» not that it isn’t pizza, but it is so distinct from the thin-crust New York pies(which I personally don’t care for) that it is practically something else. Both of us enjoyed the sweet tomato sauce atop a thick, buttery crust covered with cheese. It was sort of an inside-out pizza. The house-made sausage was a worthy investment of an extra dollar – spiced like a really good Italian sausage, it made the slice sing. The hot dog was fine – the fresh tomato and sport peppers were a little different from normal hot dogs, the pickle slices were good, but the dog and bun itself weren’t special. We think it is mostly for homesick Chicagoans. Scores: Time: They opened at about 11:45. We were both willing to wait that 15 minutes because we had psyched ourselves up for pizza. We got our order 10 minutes later – the pies were fresh and needed to cool a bit. We were done with our meal within 25 minutes of ordering. Well, my partner was done before me – he could only finish the half-dog and a slice. I lingered a bit longer over conversation, eventually finishing the second slice. Value-5: The ingredients seemed to be high quality and both of us agreed that one slice would have been enough for both of us. $ 6 for a «slice» of pizza this enormous is a great deal, especially for pizza in this town which seems to be highly overpriced for whatever reason. Gut check at 3pm: Psh. I was full until 9pm. I skipped dinner entirely. Sustainability-2: House-made sausage, local arugula and a Go Box. There’s something home-grown and local about this place. Fear Factor-2: The slice, gloppy with tomato sauce on top and requiring a fork and spoon, massive in stature is a little intimidating. But other than that… well, it’s pizza. Come on. Even a kid would eat this(for three days). Staying Power-4: We ran into several return customers while we were there. The owner seemed to know everyone by name. Unilocal rates it at 5 stars and their Facebook page has 50−−509 now – likes. They’re about a year and a half old, and they’ve got a great spot in the Megapod. The future seems bright for this one. Creativity-2: For some reason, most Portland pizza places try to appeal to their New York contingency, ignoring our Midwestern transplants. Thick gets a point for this. But pizza isn’t exactly a creative endeavor, nor should it be. This is the just-right score for this place: because I’m not looking for alligator sausage at this place. No gimmicks, no nonsense: this is traditional Chicago food(we’re assuming) done right(as far as we’re concerned).

I just totally made out with pizza. Grunting and everything. My coworkers gave me some privacy. It felt a little too intimate. This pizza is home. It’s what I grew up with; the sauce is chunky and sweet, the cheese is squeaky, and I just want to roll around in it. With it. All up in it. I finally found him after almost a year. Or what felt like an eternity, anyhow. If you’re looking, the cart faces Finnigans and Magpie.

Ughhhh I’m so happy to have finally eaten here. It’s been on my list of places to try for a while, but I’m never downtown. It lived up to my hopes n dreams. I’ve been to chicago and it seems to measure up to what I had there. I’m really not a fan of the pizza here in Portland but I think I found my place. Def have to try n share a full pie one of these days, to share the magic of Thick. the crust is perfect the sauce has so much flavor, everything is just… Right.

I had been wanting to try this cart for some time. I waited until 1 pm to avoid the lunch crowd, alas I was so lucky as one last sausage pizza was coming out of the oven. This is down right authentic Chicago thick crust pizza. Its $ 5 to $ 6 depending on topping. Pieces are cut huge. A whole pie is about $ 27 and can be pre-ordered. Hitting Pitchfork Musicfest in Chicago, I am excited for the real thing, but for now this reminds me of my college days in Midwest. The owner is an authentic Chicagoan as well so you know its totes the real deal.

I love me some pizza! Especially thick crust. When i hear thick, i think thick crust. It was thick, with cheese(which i ended up peeling off 90%) and had a tasty tomato chunks on top. I ended up ordering from another food cart cuz the one slice was okay but i wouldn’t order another one just to fill me up.

On a recent trip to Portland, I requested a family member to locate the BEST Chicago-style Deep Dish Pan Pizza that was available — «Thick» definitely lived up to the billing, and it’s name. We took the pizza to go, so it was a bit cold by the time we were able to dig into it. Regardless of being cold or reheated later that night, this pizza was fantastic — thick buttery and authentic Chicago-style deep dish crust, crushed tomato sauce, and tangy italian sausage made this dish oh-so-tasty and filling. We had to pre-order, since it’s working out a food truck. If and once the owner opens up a conventional brick and mortar establishment, I’m certain it will not have any problems filling the place up due to its great pizza.

I’ve had Chicago pizza in Chicago but to me that’s a little like saying I’ve had tacos in Mexico. Was it the real thing? Is there a real thing? Unfortunately I have no idea. So I have to rate this pizza on how it actually is, rather than how it compares to the ‘real’ thing. I think it’s a 5-star slice. The crust has a pleasant, light texture. It’s very present in the mouth without being annoyingly chewy like all chain crusts. Even the thick rim seems very much like a handmade pastry and is really nice to snack on. The tomato sauce highlights the fruity flavors of tomato instead of drowning them in too many herbs or overlong simmering, so the whole slice has a really nice fresh feeling while still being very satisfying. Add a little home-cured sausage to it and it’s a real mouthful! You’ll definitely have to try one to find out if it’s your slice of pie or not, because it’s unique in the city.
