I had heard wonderful things about Three Lions so when I found myself passing by and heard my stomach growl, I decided to stop in. I really hope that this place isn’t representative of 3 Lions as a whole because while the pastries that my friend and I had were good, there were hardly any to choose from. The place was really tiny — there was barely room for the bar seating facing the windows. There were cases of beverages stored under the bar too — you could tell that there just wasn’t enough room there. If you work nearby and don’t plan on staying to eat, then it might be okay if you’re not particular about your pastry. But if you want something specific or want to stick around, head to another 3 Lions location.

I love 3-lions baked goods. Love, love, love them. When I worked at Fox Tower, I used to walk up to the 13th and Morrison location to get goodies, and I would call ahead and reserve cakes and pies from the old NW5th(or was it 6th) location for the birthdays and the most special events. How stoked was I to find out that Three Lions was expanding to new locations? STOKED! Well, I’m not so stoked anymore. The location near my work just doesn’t cut it. It’s a tiny little hole in the wall that has a sparse selection of baked goods when I stop in at 730am(prime time), has zero room to even stand and wait for your baked goods, and no place to sit. The standing room issue is not a huge deal, but the lack of selection is a deal killer for me. The baked treats themselves are good, but the lack of selection is quite puzzling. It seems like this is a glorified coffee/bakery cart that was attempting to metamorphize into a coffee shop, but got stuck ½ way there, and is now some sort of hideous deformed halfling. The coffee is quite good, and if I get there at the right time, there’s 2 bran muffins, and I can get one. If I don’t get there at the right time, there’s still a chance I can get a vegan muffin(of which I usually see about 4), but failing that, I’m stuck with a croissant(a delicious, yet wholly unhealthy croissant). The original 3-lions locations always had more options. The coffee is really quite good, and that’s what gets this location 3-stars. All I want is a quick, and at least somewhat redeeming, breakfast. A bran muffin is all I ask, if there aren’t any healthier options. Please, please Three Lions. Bake me a good breakfast!
