Alan’s Music Center

I originally gave this place a 5 star review after getting a couple guitars set up here because the service wasn’t bad and I want to support the local music store. However, my recent experiences there have changed my mind about this place. I wanted to get another guitar set up here but I play in a low tuning with that guitar, which requires thicker strings. Well, they don’t normally carry the strings that I like to use but the frustrating part is that they won’t set up a guitar with strings that are purchased elsewhere, you have to buy the strings from them. Ok, not a huge deal since they said they would order the strings I wanted and they would arrive in about a week. A week later I called to see if the strings were there yet and spoke to Larry, the most frustrating person to talk to, and all he would say was «they’re on order, we’ll call you». When I asked how much longer, his response was «we’ll call you». I went in to the store a week after that and spoke with the guy I had originally placed the order with and he was completely lost. Then he remembered that I ordered them, looked at a piece of paper that had a list of things to order, and realized they never ordered them. Thanks for lying to me Larry. Now about a month and a half later (I already bought strings and set up my guitar somewhere else), I went in to the store again because I feel that small businesses at least deserve to know why they may be losing customers. Low and behold still no strings and unfortunately Larry was there, who, again, is the most frustrating person to talk to. He still said «They’re on order. They hand-​make the strings when we order them, so they take a while.» «Over a month?!» I asked. Then he responded «We don’t place orders individually. We have to wait until the order is over $ 300». So then they weren’t ordered over a month ago when I first asked? Thanks again Larry. Don’t lie to customers. I hope this doesn’t seem like I’m making a big deal over strings. It’s the fact that they lied to me every time I asked and can’t give a simple E.T.A. on orders. If they had just been honest upfront that orders take that long, I would have just gone somewhere else for the guitar set up but continue to support this store for anything else music-​related that I need. Instead, and needless to say, I don’t think I’ll be going here anymore. Lastly, if you have any questions for them, just hope you don’t have to talk to Larry. I would have explained to him why I’m not going to support their store anymore but I honestly don’t think that he would even understand.

My kid gets his guitar lessens here, with Andrew. Andrew is really nice, my son really enjoys his lessons. He can go in a grouchy teenager, and comes out with a positive attitude. Such a great way to give kids better self confidence.

Love Alan’s music! Got our daughter’s guitar from there and do all of her guitar and my Hubby’s guitar services there. Quick service and they go above and beyond every time it’s needed. All 4 of my children will be starting lessons the middle of January in Piano, Drums, Guitar, and Voice and we will be going through Alan’s music and the instructors there. =)

OMG! i think that summs it up. i dont know if they have changed owners or what, but this place USED to be awesome, not its just a big rip off. they will over charge you for new items, and really overy charge you for used items (used amps found brand new for better prices) and lets not even talk about the service, or lack there of. the female behind the counter is rude and argumentative. not worth the headache! we used to love this store and would get great deals, but now the will nickle and dime you to death. i wish this store would leave our small town!!!

I love doing business with Alan’s. We purchased our daughter’s violin and get all of her supplies from Alan’s and have never had an issue. They are always friendly and honest.

Great selection and great piano teacher (mrs. Pat) she actually teaches how to play music instead of just songs.
