This place has a very large selection from all over the world. When I pop in I tend to go straight to the discount wines area centered just behind the neat suit of armor that I have embarrassingly mistaken for a real person upon catching it in my periphery more than once. No I wasn’t drunk, but on that note I do wonder if the proprietor thinks I’m a drooling booze hound. You see, I work overnights and as a result tend to do my shopping very early when I get home. Just the other day, after finishing up at Netcost I waited outside for them to open at 10:00 a.m. They were about fifteen minutes late, so I may have looked mildly perturbed when they got there. But it’s because it was drizzling out and I just didn’t want to have to trek over later for a single item when the rest of my shopping was already done — NOT because I was fiending for my daily breakfast scotch. LOL. Anyhow, you can often find some decent Spanish and French wines in the discount area for like seven to ten bucks a bottle. What they don’t seem to carry in abundance are top shelf items. That’s really neither here nor there for me. I’m mid range all the way unless I’m looking to impress or it’s a major occasion. All the people who have manned the counter have been nothing less than professional. I like to be able to wander around browsing for as long as I need undisturbed and you can definitely do that here. As far as getting advice is concerned, I’m not sure how much depth of knowledge runs among the staff. I find alcohol preference to be a very personal thing anyhow, and even when I have consulted people at high end places in the past, I wasn’t particularly impressed with the quality to price ratio. As such, I’ve come to favor good old trial and error. Then when I DO hit that trifecta of affordability, availability and yumminess, I abuse it until I’m over it and then move it to the back of the rotation. ‘Cause, you know, I’m classy like that. So far I’ve found two or three wines I was very happy with at the price point. And since this place is so big, it’s a statistical impossibility that I won’t come across more in the future. Glug glug.

Unilocal has the wrong transit info for this establishment. The closest train is the M or R train to 63rd Ave-Rego Park. This location was recently renovated and is bigger, cleaner with a larger selection of wine and liquors. Prices are average and staff are helpful.

I’ve been going here since I moved out to the Q-Boro last year, and was surprised to see they don’t have a Unilocal page yet. let’s fix that! small but crammed with all sorts of booze imaginable, Wine House(no, not named after Amy) is a great place to get your liquor shopping done. prices are great, the employees are friendly and helpful, and now for the winter they are running some pretty good sales. a few bucks off alcohol gift sets(a bottle and a glass, or flask, or mixer, etc), 10% off multiple bottles of wine, and a few bucks off some other random bottles. the gin selection is not the best, which makes me a bit sad, because gin is my favorite liquor. on the other hand, with Rego Park being pretty much its own Central Asian Soviet republic, there is a large selection of vodka. nasdrovia!
