Food was great; any Thai lovers will love this place! The Pad Thai was especially amazing and the staff was friendly. Definitely recommend it.

I am from Reno, NV out in Shasta Lake for work. I came to the restaurant a month ago, one night after work. This was by far the best Pad Thai I’ve had. The owners were very welcoming and I’m already committed to going again this week while I’m out here for work again.

Just had lunch here. The new owner is awesome. The food is even better. I had the Hangover noodles(pad Kee Mao) with chicken. It was probably the best I’ve ever had. The wife had the Penang curry off of the lunch special menu. She said it was fantastic. Bill was under 20 bucks for two people which is unheard of.

Absolutely fantastic! Yellow Curry was perfect. Lunch special, $ 8.00. Interior was spotless and slightly redesigned from the old Nipa design. Meal presentation was very impressive and a wonderful update from the previous owner.(sorry)

This place blows all Redding’s Thai food away. I am a big Thai food junkie(yes, I consider myself addicted), and this place puts quality Thai food on your plate in a nice presentation. They give you more meat than other places, as well as much fresher ingredients. We have had the appetizer sampler, Tom Kha, Drunken Noodle, Yellow Curry, Laab, and Panang Curry and all of it was some of the best I have ever had. Service was great and the owner is very personable, Thanks Nari? Not sure how it is spelled but is pronounced«Nar-e»

Definitely one of the best Thai places I’ve been to in a really long time. Amazing food, great atmosphere, and the service was so friendly. The owners really put care and effort into the place and it shows, especially in the food!

We went for lunch on a very rainy day and the hot soup and noodles hit the spot. The portions were very satisfying and the favors were great. We enjoyed our first visit here and will be back.

I was in search of a Chinese restaurant with a great lunch special. I saw a large banner for a lunch special and pulled in to the parking lot and to my surprise it was a Thai restaurant. Turned out to be a very fortunate mistake. I am not very familiar with Thai food and usually order the same thing Pad Thai, the national dish of Thailand. I was ready for something different, so I ordered«Pad Kee Mao» or translation DRUNKENNOODLES. This has to be one of the best meals I have ever had, no matter what the cuisine. My server and also the gentleman that cooked my meal was Narin. He was very friendly, courteous and made sure that I was happy with my food and was on top of keeping my Ice water filled. I was quite impressed with the Thai Condiment Caddy that contained Nam pla prik, a spicy sauce made of thai chillies and fish sauce I used this generously on my drunken noodles and even asked if they sold the sauce separately, which they don’t, but should. The atmosphere is elegant with beautiful crystal chandeliers and tasteful decorations throughout. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and definitely will be back.

I have had Thai food at a lot of spots and must say that the food, the service, and the quality of food is one of a kind. I have brought three friends to this spot and hope to bring more!

It gets better every time I go! We’ve been going a couple times a week and the whole family loves it! They have so many vegetarian options and everything I’ve had has been delicious! The prices are very reasonable also!

Very good food. Excellent service. The owner was always ready to meet our needs. We had the Thai rolls which are very good. A dish with fish that was both sweet and spicy and then a beef dish with noodles. Loved the flavor and the amount of heat can be customized for your taste. Dessert was the the sweet mango rice. I will eat there again.

Among the best Thai food I’ve ever eaten, and I’ve been noshing on my favorite cuisine for nearly half a century throughout California and beyond. What makes this brand-new restaurant stand out from the competition is the complex deliciousness of its dishes, due in part to the fresh-ground spices, all lined up in large glass jars on the main counter. This place makes everything from scratch, and unlike many other restaurants that may have a few wonderful dishes but other iffy ones, every single thing I’ve tried at Mae Ploy was fantastic. My daughter and I stopped in a couple weeks ago when our usual favorite place was closed. Since then we’ve been back four times – and Mae Ploy is now our #1 Thai food fix. The Thai iced tea is possibly the best I’ve had, pure sweet goodness. Lots of vegetarian options along with both brown and white rice are on the menu, which has the usual favorites as well as many Central Thai specialties – some that I haven’t seen elsewhere are now on my long list to try on our next visit. My daughter loved her pad thai with chicken, which was remarkably fresh and just plain delicious, as was her beef panang. The aroma and flavor of my tom kha kai soup were super tasty, and my pumpkin curry with shrimp was better than any I’ve had. I also inhaled their addictive version of the classic«drunken noodles» called«hangover noodles, with lots of fresh veggies. Oh, and the peanut sauce is to die for – like the chili dipping sauce, it’s homemade, and we devoured every drop. We ordered a range of mild to spicy. Even the mild dishes were bursting with intense flavor, but the spicy versions don’t burn your mouth. The owner and the waitresses were happy to accommodate special requests, too(no green bell pepper for me!). It’s in the building that used to house Nipa restaurant, and shares the parking lot with Chicken Shack. Fortunately, the aviary of sad birds and the bright green color scheme are gone, and the dining room has been transformed into a welcoming, cosy place with Thai statues and décor and a fireplace, all softly lit by chandeliers. Thai music in the background adds to the ambiance. The owner is very friendly and professional, and the amazing cook smiled and waved back when we waved at her from our table. Likewise, the two waitresses we met on different trips were friendly and efficient. It all made me feel like I wasn’t in Calabama any more, Dorothy! It’s also the only Thai restaurant in town that is open seven days a week – and that, along with the extra half hour(closing @ 9:30 on some nights) is a big plus in my book. Mae Ploy on Sunday? Mmm, heavenly! Shorter: I like several local Thai restaurants a lot, but judging by the consistent deliciousness of every dish I’ve tried so far, Mae Ploy is several notches above and beyond the competition – and then some.

I agree with the first reviewer about 100% the price point is quite high for anywhere. There appear to be no moderate priced specials, I went there for a lunch special advertised but not in force yet.

Mae Ploy recently opened(Dec 2015) in the building where Redding staple Nipa’s used to be. In fact, the new owners of Mae Ploy were friends of the Nipa’s family who moved over from Reno, NV. As someone who loves eating out, I had to try this place. Location: Very easy to find. Right off Churn Creek next to the Chicken Shack. If you’re going there at night, try to park in the front(which is actually the side) because parking in the back is kinda sketchy. The rear parking is not lighted very well and if you’ve been following the raising crime rates in Redding, you’ll know that you can never be too careful. The interior is very nice; fireplace, chandeliers, great décor. Service: We went here around 7:30 pm and there were 3 groups of people eating there. The waiter was very friendly and professional. It did take awhile to get our bill considering the place wasn’t busy, but I wouldn’t knock them at all. Food: I love beef noodle soup(phở) and most Thai places in Redding serve phở. There was beef noodle soup on the menu so we ordered 2 bowls of it. Initial impression was that this in NOT phở. That’s not a bad thing, just not what I was expecting. If you’re used to the giant portion size of a bowl of phở, then this would be a medium/small. The broth has curry in it and has a peanut flavor. The best part was the large amount of rich, flavorful beef pieces. I would have liked more bean sprouts though. I would say this is more of a beef stew. At $ 8.95, I would highly recommend this dish. Price: For the soup, I believe the price is very fair. But the cost for their regular Thai entrees is pricey(~$ 13 – 15). Add on a $ 2 rice and that’s on the high side of what I’d expect to pay for Thai food in Redding. It definitely puts Mae Ploy as the most expensive Thai restaurant in Redding. With other incredible options like Thai Hut(I just waited in line there last night for 30 minutes), I would recommend this being a once-in-a-while treat vs the Thai Tuesday weekly eatery.
